@nowayout35 what can i say it was a weak year for american films a list where bridsmades and jedgar makes the list you know there was not much to pick from
'Midnight in Paris' is the most over-rated movie of the year. It just a good film. Its such a pretentious, bland, most of the times irritating,old-film making & totally predictable film. I'm vexed up with Woody Allen's form of film-making. Ever since Annie Hall (Masterpiece) Woody Allen is repeating his same boring screenplay about boring lives of boring people, be it Hanna and Her Sisters or Husbands and Wives or Crimes and Misdemeanors or Midnight in Paris.
@JdubsFTW AFI honors 10 movies and 10 television series, this isn't like the golden globes where there's only one winner. They are all winners. But Game of Thrones was fantastic this year!
@Picuco09 The Artist is not an American film, so it was recognized in the Special Awards at the end of the video. (Which explains why Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is also not on there)
@kiwiifalling Well if you're going by Rotten Tomatoes they used 222 reviews for Bridesmaids and 199 reviews for The Ides of March, which would account for the 5% difference. But I'm not really sure why you're bringing up critical claim as an explanation for Ides & Contagion's absence when AFI included J. Edgar which got panned by most critics. And Drive wasn't really that controversial, as if that even matters in the first place.
@grindhouse141 dude, im not saying that I personally would have left out drive. clearly, the discrepancy between bridesmaids and drive in terms of critical consensus wasn't too far off, and disagreement over drive may have had a factor in leaving off drive off the list, as there were a number of critics who passionately hated it.
Is it just movies with American Directors that were eligible? That would explain why Drive & Tinker,Tailor, Soldier, Spy are missing.

AFI has just made asses out of themselves by including Bridesmaids but leaving out Drive & The Ides of March, and Contagion, to a lesser degree.

@chaosflamesx Hey its not "great" but its a really solid film.

@grindhouse141 bridesmaids received more critical acclaim than the ides of march or contagion, and drive was much more controversial.
