Deckard is in diablo and you will find items with unidentified on them in diablo 2 so you must take said items to deckard to have them "identified" basicly just alows you to see the stats

Diablo 2 reference to an NPC called Deckard Cain. Many items you would get would be "unidentified" and you couldn't use it until you identified it yourself (using a Scroll of Identification) or you spoke to him, where he would identify all your unidentified objects.

The voice was deeper and slower, but this video did it well.
