This is one of my all time fav tracks. The first half of the track is so beautifuly written it kicks you in the guts and makes you feel bad about wrongs you have done - well it does me but can't stop playing it. Sorry, forgot to say great piano playing really caputres the spirit - great job

I spent most of summer 1982 listening to this Genesis song, Mad Mad Moon. Si hauntingly beautiful... and you can bet I'm finding the sheetmusic for this tomorrow! Chord transitions are so so so beautiful...goose bumps every time.

Thank you. I always thought this was one of Tony Banks best ballads. Always wondered how it would have sounded with Peter performing the vocals. I had read somewhere that the band was a little concerned if Phil could pull it off. Overall he did a good job.....

oh very much so. honestly i can't imagine anyone but Phil singing it. Certainly too romantic a lyric for Peter. Pete would have made the lyrics into something about the desert transforming into an immense vulva that swallows the sky thus disturbing an otherwise tranquil teatime and tennis. Or something.

I'll say! They held auditions and he reluctantly obliged (didn't want the job!). Personally, I think the entire album was far more suited to his emotional range than Gabriel's. Peter was always best when there were more complicated twists and turns of mood to negotiate: "Firth Of Fifth" being a classic example.

But perhaps I'm just being subjective (-:
