Did you figure out a solution to this issue? I have the same problem. I've an iPhone 4s and am using the Airport Extreme dual band router so a going to a dual band router will not fix your issue. If you figure it out, please post a video with the solution. Thanks.
@MrVitaminM I got a new router, and I don't have the problem any longer on my iPhone 4. My old iPhone 3G, however, gained the issue with the router switch. So my ideas are limited :(
I had the same issue. But I found the solution. Connect to 2 channel router. I have Belkin router one has got home wifi connection and one for Guest connection. I connected to Guest it was super speed.
I know. Once your router is set to something that runs slower that's as fast as your router will run...... Just go buy a 2 channel router and if it does not work bring it back. You'll be glad you did. My phone was the only thing that would run slow. But now, the day I changed the routers they work perfect.
Id be willing to bet most people with a single channel router have this problem, thats unless they had a 40 or 50 meg down load at there house, there for they would get 10 or so meg on there phone. I noticed it a lot when i was streaming a netflix movie from my wii. when i had my single channel router (apple express) thats because the wii was taking up all the bandwidth on the channel. get it.....single channel. with a dull channel it would not do that
I e-mailed you the answer but I'm not sure if you can get it. So I'll put this on here so others can see it. Like I said the phones run on a different frequency then your computers. All I can say is I had the exact same problem as you are having. I have an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S along with an mac book pro which is not a slow or crapy computer (same issues).. Now I have a dual channel Apple extreme router. Now both phones uploaded the exact same speed as the computers. And the download speed
Ok........ The problem is not the phone!! You are running a single Chanel router. Like an express or something else. You need a 2 or 4 Chanel router, like apple exstreem. The reason why is a single Chanel router can only run as fast as the slowest item on your network. So....... It slows down your phone.. Using a 2 or 4 Chanel router won't slow down your iPhone. Once you understand how routers work, it makes séance
sometimes it is that your multitasking has alot of apps in it, taking them off well help your overall performance and also turning off the in settings all the spotlight search (like for what it will search for)
and finally a new router the with best performance you can find
try clearing the iphones multi-tasking programs (double click home button and hold an icon, then minus all the programs) or defragmenting the phones memory
or mabe its the wifi, it might now work with iphone 4, try on a iphone 3 or older i dont know how old or new your mac is so that might not be right.
best guess would be an antenna conflict of some sort... did you try turning off the 3g antenna and seeing if it worked?? it could also be some kind of interference between the router and iphone, or possibly being created by the iphone itself as i said before... best bet would be to contact apple and they should take care of it, but if they cant you still get another iphone :D (as long as you have apple care)
Wish I could help having same problem with two new iPhone 4S wifi is so slow even when I try it at other places that offer it for free. Speed test app shows .20 down and 9.20 up?
@2China4Norah Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be an extremely widespread issue... I only found 20 discussions similar to it in the Apple discussion forums, each with only a couple replies (if it is a known issue there will be a ton more).
is it rooted? if so, is the hosts and/or resolv.conf file in order? maybe you should look into that. i don't currently own an iphone, but had one for more than a year, and remember the same asinine speeds when i messed up the 'nameserver' line of the resolv.conf and had a lot of localhost redirections in the hosts file..
other than that, maybe switch channels on your router to around 11..
@bamdadkhan I'm not shy about saying I'm not into networking. LOL What does that mean? I haven't done anything special to it. It's an AT&T GSM iPhone 4 16GB in black with recently updated iOS 5. I had the issue before upgrading.
@Technoguy3 so it's not rooted (jailbroken, as it's referred to in iOS-land).. well, then i think no app (or you) has the permission to write garbage in the unix config files i mentioned. my initial idea was that you might have installed something crappy through cydia that messed up those config files.
i'm out of ideas then, sorry. but please make a video when you have managed to sort it out, since i'm planning to get an iphone 4s soon.
@Technoguy3 yeah, you could try change the channel on the router. I remember the iPad one had this problem and they fixed it. But I would try a different channel. Most routers are set to channel 6 or 11.
@Bstone18 Just notice i never answer the question I would make sure it was on channel 11 or try changing it to channel 6. The say you should have it on auto but i like to keep my wireless network on 11. If that still dose not fix it I would try to reset the router to the default. I remember iPad one had this problem also. I never had it with the iPod touch. i don't have an iPhone yet. I think you have a net gear router i have not had one of them in years but should be under wireless settings.
@Bstone18 I changed the wireless channel. So far, that seems to have done the trick. Hopefully I can sum it up to interference on whatever frequency channel 11 is using. I switched it to 6 and it works. Assuming that it stays working, you just earned a shoutout in my next video!
It only makes sense because sometimes the wireless signal seems to drop out completely. Maybe switching channels will actually fix that issue as well.
@Technoguy3 Many things can cause interference like cordless phones, microwaves, etc. 802.11 runs on the 2.4ghz frequency which is pretty populated. Most networks use channel 6 by default, hopefully that fixes it permanently :)
@Technoguy3 Yeah I have has the issue when a phone would right my internet would drop and turns out the phone and router were on the same channel. Glad i could help if it works out. Another way i fix this problem was I added a second router and put all my devices on that one router. I wanted to move up to a N network anyway so it worked out.
@hoboman1206 It's not an issue with the router because it works with all my other devices (sometimes my old iPhone 3G I still have disconnects for absolutely no reason though), and there aren't any IP conflicts as far as I'm aware. Although I'd like to get a new router haha
also, don't mess with the dns address, it is used to exchange webtile urls for ip addresses, and if that is incorrect, the only way to get web access would be to type in ip addresses, and it may also help to slow your network down to 802.11g, for troubleshooting purposes
"Here´s my iPhone 4, not 4S because I'm not that rich."

Lololol, poor homeless guys who can't handle to buy a 4S but has enough money to buy a 4 and an iMac. -_-

My issue for all my wireless N devices was the speed from the router to the device.
all my G devices got fast speeds. I was getting like .86 kbs DOWN and a meg or two up in wireless N
My friend hoped me put custom firmware on my router to help boost the wifi speeds.
He did some tweaking you may know more about networking than i do.
