Mr. Mills is the real deal - He is in the trenches on a weekly bases, sometimes more. It would be impossible to attempt to explain what he is doing in a few sentences.
I would recommend seeking out one of his camps, or finding one of his students.
How does he physically execute 0:57?? It looks impossible to deliver that amount of power from that short a distance and that little effort! Seriously anyone know how he doe it??
Uh, yes, you can indeed do it with purely physical movement, in fact that's exactly what Mr Mills is doing here. Look at the way he moves his feet, this moves the entire mass of his body forward as he strikes, adding a huge amount on energy (and where did you get the idea that energy isn't physical?) to the strike.
Mr. Mills, Just got online, first time to witness somebody move like Mr. Parker since he passed. Been long time since even practiced, witnessing that makes me want to commit again or be committed. You reputation is well deserved. God Bless and keep.
so then what is this energy? i've seen people get knocked to the point of wobbling after getting hit somewhere in the neck by a supposedly different system.
You can disrupt function in the spinal cord or occipital region using force but that isn't what he is doing. Intent can affect living systems on positive or negative ways.
what is the point he's at on the back of the neck? i can't tell exactly. is there a muscle he's aiming for? i felt my own blow hurt as soon i punched myself below the chest in the right place, but i didn't at back of neck.
"See what Ed Parker did and tried to teach but no one understood...except one." In as much as this is suppossed to make Mr. Mills sound good it insults Mr. Parker's teaching ability. Out of the thousands he taught during his lifetime he was only able to get his point across to one person? And now that one person can get it across to thousands?
Not really, it just means that one listened to what he was actually saying or doing. Everyone always made excuses and said, "Well that's just him, no one else can move like that." Parker spoke with frustration about this often.
How can you say that if you have never seem him fight for real? Anyone can waive hands in front of a dummy.... but, can he do it against a real opponent?
@nerdswers oh aye, i agree.. but from what i understand he's bounced plenty at his nightclub. you can't get more "real" than that aside from being mugged.
I know plenty of successful bouncers who don't know any form of self defense. They are just big guys... You don't need to be a good martial art so that proves nothing about this guy's abilities.
I don't think thousands will reach that level though just as you will never have thousands of gold medalists. But it's always to learn from the best, one who fully understands from both a practical application perspective and a theoretical perspective. Mills has the same extensive fighting experience Parker had.
I am not with Mill's group, although I have picked up some Kenpo as my instructor is an Inosanto guy. I can tell you that Mr. Mills is highly spoken of by the FMA/Kali guys I train with under Guro Inosanto. One thing he has mentioned, of all the seniors Mill's is the one that gets better with age - hits harder and faster the older he gets. It's a common opinion that is the case because he truly understands proper motion. Were I to train outside, Inosanto it would probably be with these guys.
I've not heard much about Tatum, good or bad. I know Mill's gets a lot of respect in FMA circles for his Knife and club stuff. It is supposed to be very good (for non-Filipino art :) ). I wish there were some videos of him working the knife.

It's all about being able to control your energy with your intent. You can't do it just moving physical movement.

Thanks. Do you know if Mr.Mills us going to do any seminar's in Dublin in 2010??

It has more to do with intent and energy than targeting.
LordShandor 4 years ago
but it can be devastating with the use of poison hands...if you use the energy concepts of intent...so then targeting becomes a part of the intent.

That's ALOT of people that weren't listening and/or just "weren't getting it". Oh well, salute.

I agree, but it shows when you watch them move and compare it to Parker, something is definitely missing.

I hear this same thing about Tatum as far as getting better with age. They are both remarkable in that regard.
