With the inside number 2 and the shoulder roll the left hand catches out front so why, on the number 4 with the stick pointing down, isn't the left hand catching in the same way?

Master Ron. Sill working San Shou, have about 4 months to go till I get thru it. Funny though, techique wise, there is nothing new to us FMA types. However, much more time spent in following, attaching and body mechanics. Learning to stop thinking and just move with the moment. (no mind) Isn't that what we learn in fast free flow sumbrada flow? hmm. still tons of fun for an "old man". Hopefully, I will be in California next summer. Would very much like to meet you, as I am a perpetual student
Chrisarena! Great. You are becoming a surfer of the universal energy wave. Many do not know that in the old days Escrimadors would pull back and search for the deepest knowledge. The Hermit spoken of by Dizon is congruent with people living in caves in different parts of the Phillipines.Hilot, Arbulario, anting, bulong, oraciones, etc., is a very important part of the FMA culture. I have been trying to put it back into my system...but people want to see me with a weapon in my Good Luck...Ron
Master Ron. Just taking a second to stop by and say hello. Been researching the Internal side of your art . It's giving me a far greater understanding of sensitivity and the ability to listen to an opponents energies.. The dropping energy of the split step and the braced block of Serrada are deeply internal and very similar. I look at the opponents stick as a wheel to roll around over or under and not to just crash into. Also learning the 2man San Shou Tai Chi fighting form to gain internal skil
2jax, open handed for basics, to get the feel of blowing off the power. In real lifethe stick is held solid...and as soon as the power is felt the roll is turned into a number one strike. I will do an advanced video for you soon, so you can see it. Ron
Chrisarena, Sounds like you had fun! I periodically defend against largo style blows. They produce stiff power and need to be delt with, to produce a safe entry. Skill can overcome speed and power. We should never depend on being stronger and faster. As Manong Angel aged, his ability to deflect power increased, or he always had it. He seemed to never block, with his uncanny timing and zoning...well...pushed he got slower, while you looked stupider. Long live Escrima Master Ron Saturno
Yeah! Lex Luther that stuff fron accross da room!. Had a great training session yesterday. 3 hrs. Working Numerado. Largo Mano blade and empty hand. and worked the circle with the basic blocks and disarms each. Great workout. Non stop for me, the younger puppies had to stop and rest!
Chrisarena! Ah! Tapi/Tapi! Manong Leos' boys... They have Kryptonite for Tapi-Tapi, largo mano. So I will go on record. I practise with a bat. With 30" or longer sticks. So, I too like to hit with speed, power and authority. You may only have one hit. Bahala na guys make sure they come ready to bring it. So do I. They also bring their families when they train. I respect you all Chrisarena wish we could be more like you. Master Ron Saturno
It is not possible to hit one self in the butt with thier own stick! You must have been the victim of the rare and elusive "wild monkey tapi-tapi-slap counter strike" ! :).
Thanx Chrisarena! I am sure that I am not in the rareified catagory as those mentioned. I know of and knew these gentleman, lovers of the FMA until the day they die. Sadly one has passed as we all must. I must not be in their catagory because just last night I was trying something new with a private student and hit my own self with the butt of my stick like a dumb ass...it still hurts. It looked like such a great idea at the time. Oh well...Given enough time....Ron Saturno
Thank You for this insight of your art. I have watched some of the later era Cabales style "masters" and they are not moving as you move! You twist and bend around the attack. The later guys just crash into the attacking weapon. I firmly believe that the earlier advanced students like yourself, Jaime Tacosa, Mike Inay and Dentoy were head and shoulders above the later students in your art.
Doggie is human. Sleeps next to me and now there is his son Smokes (he is darker than his Dad). Dang guys my ears are ringing. His name is Meaty. 80 Lbs. of fighting machine. A very gently raised American Pit. LUV these dogs. He watches to make sure nobody hurts me. Scary if he thinks somebody is trying to harm me, but otherwise A loving beast. Thanks for asking. Thanks for all of your videos. I really love the attitude. No trying to sell a system or whatever. A true martial artist.

I don't have any fma classes in my area unfortunately so I'm trying to get a taste for it until I can move.
I was wondering on the shoulder roll for number 2 do you open your stick hand when doing this block for real or was that just for the demonstration?
