  • Does that mean they will want the USA to pepay our debt to them?? I just read that China emits more CO2 then the USA by at least 8%. Germany has the most wind turbines but are now building 26 new coal plants and Europe as a whole is going back to fossil fuels. Why are we at this time going to close down our coal plants. Obama said he would bankrupt coal companies and he is on his way. America is already bankrupt and now we are all being sold out in the name of politics. Cap& Trade is a tax.

  • @rkoechig Well said.

  • We have no energy crisis. we have a economic crisis. we dont produce good things. the need to keep selling products motivates the production of products that wear out sooner than necessary. produce products that last and you cut tremendously on manufacturing energy, transportation energy.

  • What about geo thermal, tidal or wind energies, china is a disgusting mess they have so much pollution, I think they should also be thinking about the health of their own inhabitants in making decisions, not just the bottom line of keeping businesses running.

  • ya i agree with you on your last point but USA also has to discuss there blindness and fearful ness of everything and get there head straight on reality's neck that they once had but they happen to lose... the way there government controls every last one of them should also be taken public but there fears of the government hold than back

  • the chinese government has been frantically building dams and hydroplants on every river they can find. there's been complaints about its impact on the local biodiversity and local people's traditional livelihood, but really, what can you do.

  • Nuclear fixes so many problems that this world has! Seriously, you can get so much power out of modern nuclear plants. You could replace ALL coal plants with nuclear and bury or rocket the waste away. We have many places to bury it. I know, "get a half-life", but I care about things like global warming and air more than mania about radiation.

Nuclear power, safe, powerful, and demanding. Education, technology...

About mining: Nuclear mining > coal, but "green" techniques do beat them both.

  • around the end of the last semester, we had a guest speaker on nuclear energy, he said with the technology we have right now, we are expected to run out of uranium in the next 50 years also

  • 50 years is a long time. You can make a lot of windmills with solar panels on top in 50 years.

Coal is the biggest environmental threat.

  • yes they're are other silo-tions than nuclear power because if you want to get into the next centuty and not worry about energy your going to have to go with technology that lasts for centuries and doesnt run out and doesnt need to be "refueled"

  • I've always been under the impression that nuclear technology is not cost efficient, also I don't like the idea of all that waste and the increased dangers of another chernobyl or terrorist attack.

  • Nuclear power is not under much threat from terrorists, they don't explode like bombs, its more effective to hit skyscrapers, thats why they hit NY.

Plants are not made like Chernobyl anymore and even if they were they would not be dangerous if run properly.

mass wise the waste is much lower then coal and doesn't have all those carbon emissions. since i don't live in Brittan i don't know what Europe will do with the used rods but you guys are pretty smart, you'll think of something.

  • We use the used rods in dirty bombs to drop on Iraqis. Have for years. Obviously the moral thing to do with them is something else, but I can think of something Republicans might do with those glowing tubes...

Nuclear is very safe. Waste and mining are the problems, but it is orders of magnitude better than coal.

You know, there are some motherfuckers out there looking into hot fusion round this planet. Wouldn't that be some power?

I'm not against green, just against coal. Nuclear works.

  • it's easy to say you don't care about nuclear leakage when the plant is not anywhere near you.

  • Are you kidding me? I'd work at a nuclear plant. Radiation is well understood. Unlike coal plants, outside of nuclear power plants geiger counters report nothing. They recognize the dangers and respond to them, while with coal there is nothing we can do to manage the emissions. Nuclear waste can be buried, safely, for eons. We can prepare for geological events at the waste sites, and monitor them.

Nuclear is very safe. No scare mongering, I really want you all to give it a chance.
