Dolphins can feel pain just like any other living creature and don't deserve to be abused or killed for sport. On the other hand, they are not gods. I know that dolphins can be moody, some are nice and some are not. This one wasn't in the mood to be touched,wild dolphins are really unpredictable. It's best to interact with them instead of touching the wild ones. I mean like talking or playing with them (if they seem friendly). I think if the dolphin wants to befriend you he will approach you and still I think it's better not to touch wild dolphins.

It states that it is illegal to hunt, feed, catch, harass, touch or come closer than 150 feet to any marine mammal in the wild. So clearly you are quite obviously breaking the law here. Don't support seaworld or aquariums that trap dolphin in those small tanks and enclosure. Dolphins are born to be free and wild, not to do some stupid stunts. So are tigers, seals, etc. If you want to get close to dolphin, let them come up to you in the shores or take a boat out and swim with them, but respect them, don;t grab their skin and fin cos they are very delicate. If they want to play with you, they'll come to you. You don;t have to make any effort. But remember they are cute but wild.

Where were you in this video? Looks somewhat like where we were at last month ( Crystal River, Fla.) We got shots of Dolphins hearding up fish for supper but not as close as you. Amazing creatures. Great shots, you're lucky.

Have you ever heard of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972? Obviously not, based on this video. It states that it is illegal to hunt, feed, catch, harass, touch or come closer than 150 feet to any marine mammal in the wild. So clearly you are quite obviously breaking the law here. It's really not cool to feed wild animals. They then become dependant upon people for food. As it swims off to the "next boat" it could have been hit/injured/killed. Cuz people like you want to feed them.

Why do people continue to think feeding wild animals is a good idea? This is not cute, or funny, it's a serious problem. If you like dolphins so much, don't feed them! You're changing their natural behavior, forcing them to become reliant on humans, and putting them in dangerous situations (in terms of proximity to boats & quality of food). Studies have shown dolphins getting fed handouts neglect their young. A calf was killed by a tiger shark in front of tourists feeding the mother in Aust.

Agricultural fertilizer washing into the water, the deadliest toxins from manufacturing ( ever wondered why China makes stuff so cheap ? ) are all being absorbed my marine life and it stay in their system then dolphins eat poison fish ( thats assuming Dolphin can find fish after drag net trawlers take EVERYTHING and Japanese not managed to kill them.

@Delta0prative unfortunately, it is. it's happening with all different kinds of animals. many birds now rely on humans to feed them and because getting free hand-outs is MUCH easier than hunting themselves, birds become reliant on this and don't teach their offspring how to hunt. the same is true for the dolphins. it's not just instincts- animals have to learn how to do things from their parents as well.

A new federal law passed in 2009 will get you a fine of up to $20,000.00 for feeding dolphins in the US. The problem is they are getting to the point where they are bothering swimmers and surf fishermen and are sometimes too agressive. My nephew was a guest aboard a shirmp boat in Georgia and was fined that much but the case was eventually dropped. The legislation is there. Don't get caught.

Don't support seaworld or aquariums that trap dolphin in those small tanks and enclosure. Dolphins are born to be free and wild, not to do some stupid stunts. So are tigers, seals, etc. If you want to get close to dolphin, let them come up to you in the shores or take a boat out and swim with them, but respect them, don;t grab their skin and fin cos they are very delicate. If they want to play with you, they'll come to you. You don;t have to make any effort. But remember they are cute but wild.

Lol thats a cute dolphin. The dolphin meant no harm. I'm no dolphin expert but when your feeding any animal please do not try to look cute and start petting it. Obviously it wanted food no cute petting time. My father works with dolphins and is a trainer and i am a strong swimmer and work with them too. I don't know alot about them because i started a few months ago but they are completeley harmless. Just remember: feeding+petting= not so friendly dolphin.

It's a male dolphin (You can tell the difference by its underside. Males have white, females have pink) and whoever made the comment about the aggression is right. The dolphin clearly isn't wanting to be touched or have anyone too close to it. Its evident by how its acting.
BTW: Touching a wild dolphin not only is harmful to people. but the dolphin as well. Ever heard of Zoonosis? Look it up. Dolphins can pass on diseases to humans and vice versa.

It actually is illegal in MOST countries to pet or feed a wild dolphin. There are heavy fines if you are caught doing it. Look what happened to Luna the orca and what almost happened to JoJo the dolphin. These are wild mammals, not some cuddly creature you have in your home.
Please look up the laws in your area before you do something like this. If you dont mind a heavy fine and or jail time, cool. If you do, then forgo touching them next time and just watch from a safe distance :)

it is not illegal to pet or feed wild dolphins or other animals in most countries, and in fact, most of the ocean is international water where no law applies and you can do what you will.
People have gotten way too anal about this type of thing. Humans are part of nature, we're supposed to interact with it. We're just animals, too.

It's time for someone with professional experience to set the record straight. This kind of social dolphin that swims alongside boats like this is EXTREMELY rare. Mostly these dolphins are loners or outcasts who can no longer fish for themselves.
Feeding wild dolphins is a long term, and all too rampant problem today. Dolphins can become dependent on people for food, teach this behavior to their calves, and as evidenced by the video, become too boat friendly and risk propeller collisions.

Oh, jeez. You need to tell your family to stop making loud noises and knocking on things if you want the dolphin to stay with you.
Also, that dolphin could be doing a number of things, but most likely one of these three: it expected food and got a hand, it wanted to play, or it was startled by this stranger's hand randomly reaching to touch it.
(Also, dolphins CAN be pretty friendly, but they don't really have a sense of right or wrong, so they do whatever pleases them.)
