Not a fan of this particular box at all. Would likely be wonderful as a recording tool, but trying to use it live amounted to a massive failure. No midrange at all, in a band with more than one guitar or in a jam situation you'll utterly disappear. If you have a method to compensate for it, it's a really nice silicon Fuzz Face-y sound. As I said, though, I'll bet this is a great pedal for recording purposes.
If you are thinking of buying this item to be part of a pedal board under no circumstances waste your money. It's a great sounding fuzz if you're using it alone with guitar and amp but be warned there is ZERO gain from this pedal - it's a fucking joke.... I wanted a fuzz sound to add to my pedal board I was recommended this and foolishly bought it off the net without trying it but in a live context it is literally unusable. And that's through a Matchless DC30!!
you guys always do and have the best reviews for pedals on the internet. I also appreciate that the reviewer is a very good guitar player, and that he always uses the same guitar and amp when he is using the different effects. Thanks very much
@AlexDeMars123 Yes! It's true bypass. It's just another fuzz face style pedal, but the tweak control is the secret weapon of this noise machine! My TF sounds like on the video, but my fingers aren't like Andy's ones!
I scored one of these pedals today and I am very impressed with it. I own several fuzz pedals and this has to be the most versatile. It has a range from 60's Garage/Psych to 70's heavy Rock. Great pedal for the price.
when he talks about overdrive he is referring to using the added volume output to push his amp beyond its clean headroom, in other words into overdrive. Which would be where a tube amp begins to distort.
The Tweak Fuzz is basically just a silicon Fuzz face with a rotary switch at the input which switches in different valued input caps.
As with all Fuzz Face pedals, you really do need to bias the second transistor properly to get a really good sound out of it. You do this by adjusting the value of the resistor attached to the collector leg of the second transistor until it reads ~4.5volts or so on a multimeter. Sounds more complicated than it is. :)
I was looking to buy this one...what do you recommend that's better then this. I'm sure there are many. I was also looking at that orange boss overdrive pedal which sounded better then this one. So let me know if you can. Thanks
I can't get mine to sound like the demo through my clean channel. I am using it to goose my V32's gain channel to Santana violinish drive. It's too bright and cheesy in my clean channel.
I got bad results with this direct into a clean tube amp. I got excellent sound going into a crunchy Marshall and REALLY good results with the Marshall an a buffer-boost pedal set to unity gain before it (vintage DOD FET Preamp pedal).
i'd put it after my wah, after my distortions, so that i could use it as a solo boost (the way its not even supposed to be used)
in the song sigillum diaboli by H.I.M. the solo is i think boosted with fuzz on top of the amp's distortion. whatever he uses, i think it sounds insanely good lol
for songs like cliffs of dover, he uses multiple low gain units. he uses a BK Butler designed tube driver, running imnto a Maestro echoplex, tinto his '69 plexi with a Y cable to jump the channels.
me2!! i dont like the sound of my little big muff. the muff is great 4 a 70's black sabbath early metal tone, but i'm looking 4 a 60's fuzz page beck & hendrix type thing and this mite be it!
I have that pedal but mine is really quiet for some reason. Even when I turn it up all the way it is quieter than my clean tone. Has anyone else had this problem?
mine kinda does that but after i put the volume at 75 percent its louder than my clean as long as the gain is at 50 or louder. other than that at full vol. and gain it screams on my blues jr. lol
After owning many versions of the Muff (Sovtek, NYC, Ramshead, etc.), I can tell you that this thing won't even come close to a good Muff.
The Muff (especially the American version) is so much more extreme than this, it's not even funny. My NYC Muff drives my amp so hard that the faceplate is almost too hot to touch after using it.
This one is much more versitile! A big muff is too static.. Yes it sounds good, but it only sounds one way.. I want the throaty fuzzy bassy sound, but i prefer it a litte bit transparent, and with this baby (tweak fuzz) you can combine your original marshall/orange/vox valve sound, and just bite it with a perfect amount of throaty fuzz.. Also check out the "voodoo lab superfuzz" it's awesome!
i need the cheapest place to get this pedal!

I wish the "tweak" knob was on the Earthquaker Monarch, which would've made it a much more Orange-sounding pedal.

@Freidlon7 What do you mean "zero gain"? That doesn't makes sense.
Do you get a volume drop when used with other pedals? It sounds like it's got gain.

I got a question: what's the difference between Overdrive and Fuzz?
I think it's a "heat" matter. Maybe the fuzz is dry, more agressive than the overdrive?
Can anyone help me?
Thx.
