  • Muddy Waters "The blues had a baby and they named it Rock n Roll"

The rest, as they say, is history!

  • beutiful and full of soul and musicianship...

  • thank you

  • CHECK OUT THE VERSION BY BIG MAMA THORTON

  • YOU CAN TELL THE LATE GREAT BIG MAMA THORTON WAS INFUENCED BY

    LATE MEMPHIS MINNIE

  • I THINK SHE'S TALKING ABOUT SEX

  • @cashc0w lol thanks for that captin obvious

  • great video (and music of course) !

  • @jrsample0425....... There is a youtube upload of the 1937 "Good Morning Little School Girl" by Sonnyboy (I) (although it sounds like it's running a little fast to me). Just hit the search engine.....

Hope this is of interest..... Thankfully good folk music is always passed down even if "times they are a changing".

    CHEERS!

  • @TheSpottytoad..... P.S. If you do visit the YouTube upload of Sonnyboy I "Good morning Little School Girl" don't be confused by the first photo in the montage..... It is a misplaced picture of Sonnyboy II.

  • @jrsample0425..... I agree with cw1310. Even Memphis Minnie will have been influenced by those around her and those that went before.....

Have a listen to the 1937 recording of "Good Morning School Girl" by John Lee "Sonnyboy" Williamson [AKA Sonnyboy Williamson (I) not to be confused with Sonnyboy Williamson (II)]. This record pre-dates the above Memphis Minnie recording by 4 years..... Who came up with this melody in the first instance?

....... We'll never know for sure!

  • Sue Foley rules.

  • @jrsample0425

Really off the mark and cynical. Every new song and every new artist has roots somewhere. Also, Chuck Berry's breakthrough car song, Maybelline, is based on the country song "Ida Red" - not this. All of Berry's songs are in a style of music that followed Memphis Minnie

  • Ah, this is just too perfect.

  • Greetings to you all. My name is Prof. Carlos D. Matthews & I attend the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Walls, MS. The legendary Memphis Minnie is buried in our church cemetery. I was young, but I remember when her body was laid to rest there. People come from both near and far just to visit her grave and leave memorable artifacts there. We consider it an honor to have her resting there. God bless you all.

  • @cmatthewsmoore I spent an hour at your church cemetary about 12 years ago. I spent time paying my respects to memphis minnie. What a beautiful place it is. Beauty as far as the eye can see. Thank you Professor Mathews.

  • Memphis Minnie rocks!

  • She is quality.

  • she entertains with the best of blue players

  • That's a GREAT one !!!!

A great VOICE and a fine Guitarist indeed

  • Images et musiques qui donnent des frissons....Le temps a passé très vite, ou en sera-t-on demain.......blog "typologues athées"

  • @lazik48 memphis minnie est immortelle. elle fait trop rêver pour tomber dans l'oubli.

  • Real Blues

  • @jrsample0425 Relax! nothing happens in a vacuum. All musicians are influence by some one. Your criticism Of Chuck Berry is totally 100% unfair.

  • @cw1310 all credit to the first caveman who first hits two sticks together in rhythm ;)

  • @el6caballo6oscuro6 hahahah there IS something to that

  • Bob Dylan - Obviously 5 Believers

  • Can she play! Wow, move over Leadbelly. Minnie's comin' thru.

  • Sue Foley's version is also good.

  • Got it! This is where "Good Mornin' Little Schoolgirl" comes from.... Sonny Boy Williamson, Rod Stewart, Jonny Lang etc. etc. etc.

  • I once had a record of Ottilie Patterson singing this with the Chris Barber Band. I have loved the blues ever since!

  • This is legendary. So many car songs comes over the years, but this was one of the first. A master for Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and so on...

  • I`m sure those lady mechanics at the end of the clip are perfectly competent but I hope they`re not looking for a fault in the engine when the problem seems to be a flat tyre!

Memphis Minnie was and is brilliant. Thanks for the great montage.

  • I love this...it's so great...she can really sing the blues...thanks for sharing!

  • Prod62366: I never heard this song or artist before...enjoyed.

  • Interesting music. And I loved those old car pictures.

    -------Ellen

  • This is magical. She is something else -- scary good.

  • The tune is similar to Obviously Five Believers, a song on Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde album.

  • such a Great song.. urban blues are amazing! History of rock and roll really taught me how to appreciate REAL music.

  • Bit of a skank that Dylan chap. This ain't the only ragtime he 'liberated' bits from. Try Blind Boy Fuller too

  • @EnFlav ... and willie walker, dylan stole lots of ragtime arrangements, also every piece of folk music made by irish peasants.... and his lyrics from poets

He's like on of those tv meals... it's got a nice blend of stuff, but you know it's just gonna be crap

  • This song is also a seeming precursor to the Beatles "Drive My Car" (which is also from a female point of view)

  • Whoa! THIS old song! ... well, this is the earliest attempt I've yet heard. Later versions include Chuck Berry's "I Wanna Be Your Driver", Nina Simone's "Chauffeur", and (I suspect) a plethora of others!

(Hmm ... wonder where Minnie herself got it?)

  • Dang, I love this song. I sang this song recently in a Jug band. It was beyond fun. Thank you Minnie!

  • LOVE this song ! Nice footage of old time autos, too. The main riff calls to mind old versions of "Good Mornin Lil' Schoolgirl",wonder who borrowed from whom?
