@jrsample0425....... There is a youtube upload of the 1937 "Good Morning Little School Girl" by Sonnyboy (I) (although it sounds like it's running a little fast to me). Just hit the search engine.....
Hope this is of interest..... Thankfully good folk music is always passed down even if "times they are a changing".
@TheSpottytoad..... P.S. If you do visit the YouTube upload of Sonnyboy I "Good morning Little School Girl" don't be confused by the first photo in the montage..... It is a misplaced picture of Sonnyboy II.
@jrsample0425..... I agree with cw1310. Even Memphis Minnie will have been influenced by those around her and those that went before.....
Have a listen to the 1937 recording of "Good Morning School Girl" by John Lee "Sonnyboy" Williamson [AKA Sonnyboy Williamson (I) not to be confused with Sonnyboy Williamson (II)]. This record pre-dates the above Memphis Minnie recording by 4 years..... Who came up with this melody in the first instance?
Really off the mark and cynical. Every new song and every new artist has roots somewhere. Also, Chuck Berry's breakthrough car song, Maybelline, is based on the country song "Ida Red" - not this. All of Berry's songs are in a style of music that followed Memphis Minnie
Greetings to you all. My name is Prof. Carlos D. Matthews & I attend the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Walls, MS. The legendary Memphis Minnie is buried in our church cemetery. I was young, but I remember when her body was laid to rest there. People come from both near and far just to visit her grave and leave memorable artifacts there. We consider it an honor to have her resting there. God bless you all.
@cmatthewsmoore I spent an hour at your church cemetary about 12 years ago. I spent time paying my respects to memphis minnie. What a beautiful place it is. Beauty as far as the eye can see. Thank you Professor Mathews.
This is legendary. So many car songs comes over the years, but this was one of the first. A master for Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and so on...
I`m sure those lady mechanics at the end of the clip are perfectly competent but I hope they`re not looking for a fault in the engine when the problem seems to be a flat tyre!
Memphis Minnie was and is brilliant. Thanks for the great montage.

Whoa! THIS old song! ... well, this is the earliest attempt I've yet heard. Later versions include Chuck Berry's "I Wanna Be Your Driver", Nina Simone's "Chauffeur", and (I suspect) a plethora of others!
LOVE this song ! Nice footage of old time autos, too. The main riff calls to mind old versions of "Good Mornin Lil' Schoolgirl",wonder who borrowed from whom?
One of the greatest songs ever written and performed.Voice of an angel.

@jrsample0425 Relax! nothing happens in a vacuum. All musicians are influence by some one. Your criticism Of Chuck Berry is totally 100% unfair.

Bit of a skank that Dylan chap. This ain't the only ragtime he 'liberated' bits from. Try Blind Boy Fuller too

This song is also a seeming precursor to the Beatles "Drive My Car" (which is also from a female point of view)
