  • Also Donald, and his nephews are dressed as mounties.

  • Umm just to correct a common misconception in these comments: This is a Canadian propaganda cartoon, indicated most obviously by the fact that it was presented by the National film board of Canada, but also due to the use of the maple leaf in the title card, and that the building they are marching in front of is the Canadian Parliament building in Ottawa.

  • @neymoura They immigrated to the United States to become cartoon stars. They are now Americans.

  • I don't think a lot of younger generations in America understand the impact WWII had on the people contemporary of that time. Sure, we have Vietnam and the wars in Middle East to draw our experiences from, but WWII was a lot bigger than that. The only way the government could legit get money for the war effort was through raising taxes (so they created the Revenue Act) and asking for war bonds. THAT'S IT. And it went to all the men who risked their lives protecting their families at home.

  • Wow. Now i know why Americans put so much emphasis on military. They had to watch this propaganda when they were 12!

  • and with educational you mean propaganda

  • Very cool to see a Canadian war cartoon !

  • terrorists have to be stopped today.good thing kucinich or edwards never got elected.maybe not even ron paul.

  • Naaaaw I wanted to see Pinocio with an MG :(

  • That video made me sick. I know that the Nazis had to be stopped at all kosts, but was have children to do with it?

I hope that there is not such a propaganda for kids these days. It was kind of "ok" for a war against "evil nazis" but it would be not acceptable for today`s "we-just-want-your-oil-wars"

  • @Shadowtrooper1990 I have an idea you liberal pussy..... Shut the fuck UP!

  • @folwert Thank you for this lyrical masterpiece, good Sir. It seems that against your intelligent arguments I am not armed...

  • @soxdownsouth I agree!

  • I'm fairly sure Pinocchio took place in Italy or Germany or something. So wouldn't Pinocchio and Gepetto be on the Nazi side?

  • @TheSpiralOrder

Italy, but not everyone in Italy was on the Nazi's side. There were quite a lot who resisted, and obviously Pinocchio and Geppetto are among them.

  • @TheSpiralOrder

I tinck Pinocchio, Geppetto and Figaro are Partigiani^^

  • Worst cartoon propaganda ever! =P

  • Im a nazi and i find this hilarious!

  • @MetalNuker What exactly makes you a Nazi?

  • @BigHater007 Everyones saying, im black and i like this, if there is a black person in the vid, and so on, but nobody ever done it like i did :)

  • @MetalNuker lol. I get it now. yeah everyone does do that as if people from one group are identical to one another.

  • @fanofmanyteams the "war on terror" is still going on isn't it? I think they still have war bonds...

  • Do they still have war bonds? Like, did they having during the war on terror? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

  • This wasn't actually intended for American audiences, at the beginning theres the Union Jack and a maple leaf, they are parading in front of Canadian Parliament in Ottawa and Daffy and his nephews are donning Mountie uniforms, This was intended for a Canadian audience.

  • Pretty sure snow white was a brothers Grimm fairy tale. Wouldn't that make her and the dwarves German?

  • The word propaganda in its basic meaning is any attempt to use information to sway opinion. Iti can be good or bad. The nazis gave it a sinister meaning wnen theu had a ministry of propaganda and word morphed into something that uses distortions information to make a point.

  • its very obvious that political correctionist phoney liberals are not fans of classic cartoons or films since they are anti history and believe in buering it

  • @mikemcgee "phoney liberals are not fans of classic cartoons ". Obviously you have no idea what the term liberal is if you think leftists are all about destroying American history. As if the right wingers advocate anything good with their pro-war stance. Both parties are shitty, and frankly, I think just about anyone could do better than the democrats and republicans at this point.

  • This IS propaganda especially since the Teaparty right considered Obama's simple little talk on the importance of education "propaganda" so...if THAT was propaganda then MOSTcertainly is.

  • @lonewolfM16 Ummm...the US used to do that too! Are you not seeing how the Japanese are portrayed here? They still do that now...ex. how they portray Muslums in the media today. But everyone does it to some extent I guess not just Communists.

  • This is not propaganda. Propaganda has misleading facts, conclusatory arguments, etc., This is a patriotic advertisement at worst.

  • imma buy some war bonds after i make a time machine a nd go back to 1945

  • @ThePivotAlex or use ebay

  • @ThePivotAlex i think that this wasn´t really necessary anymore in 1945....

  • @Sachsi003 Probably more than ever as the expenses were greatest in 44 as far as production, so those bills were still very heavy in 45.

  • wow, recycled animation

  • This shit is crapy

  • Hahaha this took place in my home country Canada lol.

  • @neymoura Lots of Italian Americans (and Italian Canadians) served in WW2.

  • @neymoura They are capitalists first.

  • the goverment was really desprate for monry and new recruits

  • Bonds of Unity, played this song in band

  • Nothings changed.. .

  • 7 dwarves go to war oh my god! :O

  • I dont think disney movies were a right choice for propoganda, off course times were crazy but i think art should be there to free minds not to conquer them..

  • @Dookiebassplayer A national effort , or in this case an international effort mobilized and utilized every tool at its disposal so that there was a future and freedom for those free minds. If conquered then that art and those minds you speak of go with it.

  • @lonewulf44 Maybe you are right, but were do people draw a line when it comes to propoganda? I mean propoganda is most of the time not related to realism

  • @Dookiebassplayer Well the best propaganda always has elements of truth to it. Drawing a line, comes from deciding what motives, intentions, sources, harm, targets and content it's viewed under. Obviously in WW2, the films and morale boosting propaganda made by the Allies is something that for the most part is something almost always in a positive context. Or as close as I believe civilization can get.

  • @lonewulf44 well not propoganda like communist propaganda where they lie/stretch the truth alot control peoples lives cut negative feed and portray their enemys as demons of hell

  • Either this isn't really by Disney, or Disney was just rather lazy to reanimate new stuff because you can really REALLY tell that they just recycled animation from the movies or shorts that the characters were in. Like Geppetto, since when do people walk like that while holding a flag? When their animation is recycled. How about the band? Totally from the short "The Band Concert" (Which is an epic short). Sure they did it for a good reason, I'm just being skeptical is all.

  • @SupaEthany Most of Walt's staff was drafted and the US Government asked them to make promotional cartoons for the war. that is why this cartoon looked like crap, some of his later WW2 cartoons got better. and yes those were recycled screens, go take a look at how old Disney movies were made and you could see it took a while so Walt took a short cut for this cartoon.

  • lol, AWWWWW!!!! Disney was a true Freedom Fighter (I'd go with American patriot, but this is for Canadia).

  • did any one else notice that the coin at 2:22 is a kennedy half dollar, which didnt begin to be minted until 1964, more than twenty years later?

  • @guitarrockernch

Those were Eisenhower half dollars. Look closer.

  • @pawo007 There were only eisenhower dollars, not eisenhower half dollars. In an case however, eisenhower dollars didnt begin being minted until 1971, still way after this cartoon was made.

  • lets make a war ^^

  • Wish we could put out propaganda videos now! Then people would realize "THEY"want to kill us! I live in New York City if you watched any of the press conferences last week about the bomb in Times Square,Bloomberg,Obama ,no one Even wanted to say that man was Muslim,or Arab...............Sickening!

  • @ryanlovesmike

Hell, it doesn't matter from which country he was or what his religion was!

He was a criminal, a terrorist and that's all that matters.

Tell me; are we fighting arabian people? Are we fighting Muslimes? NO, WE ARE FIGHTING TERRORISM!

THEY have no color. This threat is not limited to a certain race or religion. It can possibly come from everywhere and threatens humans all over the world, no matter what they look like or what they belive in.

    OUR ENEMIE IS TERRORISM ITSELF!

  • @RokuroCarisu You are WRONG! Think about WHO wants to kill us.........It is always the Muslims. Yes it could come from anywhere and look like everyone else, but they don't,they are Arab!!!!!!

  • @ryanlovesmike Listen to yourself, man! You're saying that being a Muslim/Arabian equals hating Americans and wanting to kill them. If it really was for that, we'd have a religious world war going on allready. That's paranoia.

  • @ryanlovesmike Well pretty soon China will want to kill you guys too if you don't give them that money.

  • @SniperViper1000 Your from Canada? Don't start spouting off about topics you wouldn't understand!

  • @ryanlovesmike Your National debt is 13 Trillion. You owe China $889B dollars. That's 14.4% of the US.

  • @SniperViper1000 Why are you talking about national debt?Okay we owe alot of people money, I knew that already. Your from Canada ,I guess that is the only thing you could come up with.

  • My comment is to look at it in it's time; America was at war, as was most of the world; it was a shooting war, and we had to fight. This was wartime propaganda, and it worked. You can't judge it by today's moral standards. With all our flaws, it's probably the last time nearly all Americans were totally united in a common cause; when's the last time that's happened? 911,maybe?

  • woww no wonder the generations before ours are so messed up

  • What's the music used in this cartoon?

  • @Kabilanalmond Back in the old days of cartoons, the animation studios created their own music exclusively for the cartoon.

    @denrue 1937.

  • so wait if this came out in the 1940's when did snow white come out?

  • Snow White came out in 1937. Google/Wikipedia is your friend. : )

  • thats tottaly canada

  • Could anyone tell me what's the meaning of "Five for four"? =S =S

  • Sounds like a sale: You get 5 of these of these Founds but you have to pay only for 4.

But i don't know for sure

  • It means 5 war bonds for $4.00

  • To those brave cartoon-loving-patriots who replied to my comments:

    Disney = for kids

    War = for adults

You don't need Disney to spread war propagandas for adults and children alike.

Would you all like to see your kids growing up watching nickelodeon with similar sort of propaganda about the arabs?

Leave the kids cartoons to the kids and the adult affairs to the adults.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheMaterialWorld

And you don't need Disney to spread war propagandas for adults and children alike.

  • @TheMaterialWorld

Whoever wins the war gets to rewrite their own version of history & their own version of war. Hence, brainwashing their own countrymen to justify all their government's acts during the war & calling it patriotism is what's done by every country on earth.

The old axis of evil is EVIL, because we've seen the course of history & comprehend that thing turns out right for the allies. Now does that mean the current axis of evil's necessarily evil just because the gov't said so?

  • @TheMaterialWorld

People were angry & afraid of the current axis of evil as well, thus cnn, fox, cnbc, etc helped boost morale - again just because the government said so. Isn't that a very familiar pattern?

One doesn't need to use Disney to get their message across. Furthermore, it gives out the wrong & very disturbing message that even little kids supports the war - led by adults & government agendas

Don't we agree that It may seem odd & incomprehensible to a person of today's world?

  • @TheMaterialWorld

    Hmmm... :)

Good luck with your point of view

  • If you think I refer to it as fictional, then re-read my 2nd paragraph. My 1st paragraph refers to your current war to make a point in my 2nd comment. Do read them both as a whole.

But I'm curious, what's your stand on Iraq war & the new axis of "evil" anyway?

Btw, you're saying that Disney isn't needed to get the message across, yet saying that it's appropriate for them to publish this cartoon in those days, but in doubt whether it's appropriate to be published nowadays? Please clarify it

  • @youngyuudai As to the Iraq war and its axis of evil well that was a fabrication however in WW2 we were dealing with such things as the battle of Stalingrad and the Bataan death march instigated by a very real enemy overseas and our propaganda reflected that in cartoons, comics, magazines, and most feature films reflected that. Sorry, that probably doesn't answer your question.

  • @wilsontt88 You do realize, back in those days toons were for everybody, right?

  • @wilsontt88 Okay, I want you to look back at your comment on like page 4/5 on the comments. What is wrong in there. Hmmm... perhaps the fact that Disney is for kids... that, sir, is where you are COMPLETELY wrong. Disney is a Family company, why else would adults love the movies/shorts so much? If you want something for kids, check out Dora the Explorer or somethin'. I'm not being a hater, just defending a common misunderstanding.

  • @SupaEthany

Great review, I'd take that in mind. Anyway, since you mentioned Dora, let us enjoy some common laughs I've just found out recently, my friend :)

    watch?v=EgBvkHwCxJc

    I nearly died laughing.... :D

  • arent pinocchio and geppetto italian? hello mussolinni did they forget mussolinni?...damn retards using disney artoons to brainwash us

  • My goodness, Disney supports war? I thought that Disney would emphasize on moral values, not weaponries.

I've just lost my respect for Disney.

Seriously, can you imagine what will happen if Disney recreated the video today for supporting the Iraq war?

  • sadly so have I

  • Yeah but today's censorship would never allow that to happen.

  • Oscenità...

  • Even though I rated the video 4 stars, I completely disagree with the message the video gave to all the kids who watched it. Is good to have this video on Youtube, to remember how things were. But the best would have been that the video didn't exist at all.

  • I think this cartoon is really cool, and it shows that back then, everyone cared more for their countries and freedoms that they do now.

  • If u wondering Clarabelle Cow plays the flute at 1:20 and Horace Horsecollar plays the drums at 1:25

  • I like waht Goofy does at 1:27

  • This is soooo insane :D.

  • maybe in the 40´s this campaign didnt had impact but today this is scary to many people

  • Yeah. If they'd do something like this today there'd be an outrage.

I still think this is complete rape of all the Disney characters, to use them for something like this.

But I guess morals where different back then.

  • Does anyone know that pig is at 1:16

  • hm,Mickey's band

  • pathetic!!!

  • When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross. Sinclair Lewis

  • what are we ungrateful for

  • Please tell me WHY us canadian are a bunch of ungrateful people. Does you american shit not stink or something? Please I would love an answer.

  • canada! fuck yea!

  • lol, flying kitten

  • Amen...lol

  • lol, national film board of canada. :P

  • propaganda from the good old USA. buy war bond people. the military needs the money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

  • "All Together Now" is a Beatles song, "All Together" is this cartoon's title

  • I find it funny that they included Geppetto and Pinocchio, who were Italian.

  • And to make it weirder one was an Italian puppet.

  • Q FUERRRRRRTE ME PARECEE!! Esto es de verdad?? NO PUEDO CREERLO, ESTO SE EMITIÓ ??

  • Never thought I'd see Donald Duck in an RCMP uniform...

  • ahh sousa marches

  • Give me a break...

  • Poor Donald, why did they have to use him as a Propaganda figure

  • An Italian puppet telling Canadians how to win a war again Germany, Japan and guess what other country?

  • LoL! Pinnochio and Gepetto betrayed Italy! Lawl!

  • lol I'm glad someone got it.

  • To several posters.

There was no TV during WW2 (except in the 3rd Reich).Propaganda was crude by our standards because of the limited amount of visual imagery and unsophisticated audiences. and this cartoon was in COLOUR!! A night at the movies was a rear-numbing FIVE hours. A Newsreel, a cartoon, an ad break, a general interest short, a serial short, a "B" feature and a main feature. This stuff worked.

  • this was more effective in children minds than adults

    XD

  • now is the same - but goverment pays for other enemies in cartoons

  • Id buy

  • wow, talk about subtle hints

  • Thats kinda creepy. I wonder if Scooby Doo has been secretly brain washing me too all these years.

  • Propaganda with taste of irony, i wonder if anyone noticed this over 60 years ago?

But if you ask me, this isn't that good propaganda really. I can't take something seriously such as goofy with huge sign with ''BUY WAR BONDS!'', not as powerful propaganda as soviet or axis power had in WW 2 in my opinion.

  • Never new how TV was full of propaganda...hmm, no wonder heavy metal artists had alot to protest

  • Of course it is! My own country, Peru, is advertising so we can "think big". Even foreign music is propaganda, as well as foreign goods, saying "this country is great"

  • This is great. I had NO idea Disney was doing this shit back in the forties. >D *bookmarks*

  • beekill82: Your cluelessness probably is because publik educayshun doesn't teach anything except political correctness and how bad America is. Slavery, Holocaust, JFK, Vietnam, "McCarthyism," the 60's, you probably know all about. WWI, WWII, the American Founding, Industrial Revolution, Magna Carta, Washington-Jefferson-Madison, De Tocqueville, Renaissance, Western Civilization...I doubt you got much on them, except how all of it was evil.

  • well publik education taught me to spell PUBLIC correctly

  • Armyman432: But not how to punctuate a declarative sentence. Can u spell d-e-c-l-a-r-a-t-i-v-e? Use in a sentence. . . . . . . .

Detenshion 4 yu. Consult the AFT-AFL-CIO and NEA for remedial cluelessness. Oh, forget it, just be a union robot and vote Obama-rama-lama. He'll cure all ills.

  • Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but Disney had to make these films because his studios needed the work. Yet these shorts made almost NO money for him. He only made money on the training films for the private companies like the airplane manufacturers.

  • you're correct, but in my humble opinion Disney spent very little money on this specific cartoon. See how poorly all these different characters are mixed together? They literally traced them from their respective cartoons, they made no effort whatsoever in drawing new things, exept of course the adding of signs, the re-drawing of Horace,a matching suit for Goofy (he was taken from a different short), and the final sequence. Heck, even the dwarves are still singing "Heigh-Ho"

  • damn kinooks

  • I'd just like to put in that Pinocchio was Italian and Snow White was German.

It's ironic that they're using fairly tales from the Axis Powers to support the Allies' side.

  • Maybe Pinocchio and Snow white saw how axis were evils ?

  • Or maybe medieval fairy tales have nothing to do with the twentieth century fascist dictatorships? Just a thought.

  • Meh.

  • And while common people paid for war bonds, Bush Family and its cronies made business with Axis of Evil. YEH!

  • A lot of people made money ... on both sides of political realm.

  • George Bush Sr. was shot down twice in the service of our contry during WWII. He was a Navy pilot bombing Japanese targets in the Pacific.

  • This can be found in almost every countries history. Propaganda can be scary but clearly this is one of the nicer reels. Some, obviously not intelligent, people think this has kids learn about the violence of war. It's really not. If you are smart enough to understand a cartoon, you'll be able to figure out that its telling children to save their money to help the war effort and soldiers fighting in WWII. It takes unity and effort to overcome people like Hitler.

  • Oh yes i make wrong of them. I play them both in the band i am playing in, but yes you are right. My mistake!

  • The march name is "The washington post".

  • No its called "National Emblem" by John Philip Souza

  • propaganda hell yeh
