We just got a used 2001 for winter use........150,000 miles 3.5 v6. I had no idea about the faulty transmissions in these until after the fact. I'm hoping the trans lasts to at least 200,000.
Can anyone tell me how long their 99-2002 transmissions have lasted + driving habits ? Thanks
It should last you to about that. Maybe a bit less. If you drive it with a max of 2,500 RPM's when accelerating or going up a hill, and check the transmission fluid often (At least once every weekend) and perhaps change it out at your nearest Jiffy Lube every now and then, it can last a bit longer. If you drive it like it's a BMW all the time, it puts a lot of stress on the transmission, and increases your chances of "fluid-clogging" and thus burning up of your transmission.

I think my mom is gonna buy a 2004 odyssey. Looks very safe!!!! We have a 2001 chevy venture and we saw the crash test video and was like omg!!!!!!! Plus the venture kinda sucks!!!!!! Very unreliable!!!!!! I hope honda's are as good as everyone says. Probably will be.
@pergousongandra No. They are shit. I know a family who thought the Odyssey was safe, which indeed the safety ratings indicate, got in a crash and all died. Investigators said that in a "normal" car they wouldn't have all died. I wonder how much HOnda paid off the IIHS to give them these ratings.
Not to say your story is false but my very good family friend Had a 2002 honda odyssey. They Got into a horrible accident on the highway at about 67 mph. there was only 3 people in the van and all of them only had minor injuries. They bought another odyssey after that accident. Very safe! So Happy they are fine. To bad about that other family though!
@scaremengaviation Sorry to hear that. But there are other factors to consider. (Seat belts, loose objects in car, the way the van hit). Honda didn't pay anyone anything to fake the ratings, you can see in the video the was the engine absorbed the impact. Good design. At a certain speed, no matter the car (and the crash ratings) you can expect fatalities. So don't blame the Van, blame the driver and anyone else involved.
i have that exact year of minivan ;0

you see, this is a good vehicle. I'd buy this over a Chrysler or a GM.

Too bad the Trans Sport and other GM minivans can't compete with anything from Honda or Toyota.
