They're not duplicates, just a lot of Apps will use the same icons because they're too lazy/pressed for time to make one for each and every one. Some companies will simply use their company logo as the icon for every app they make, and many of them will likely be the "lite" or "free" versions of things that share the same icon. A lot will also use the default icon for the above mentioned reason. Just take it for what it is, a good example of what you can show with the OS X API's and IDE.
