Took some classes in classical music. It was mandatory for my major, going into it I thought I'd hate it, but, it wasn't bad. People always say shit like, had Deep Purple never came out, your Metallica would never have even existed. Or things of that nature. To put it very simply, Slayer is metal. Regardless of whether it is thrash, or whatever. And so are bands like Anthrax and Metallica (old school).

If we keep getting in fights about what type of metal is what we are gonna let these dumbfucks like MyCurse come in and tell us that Slipknot is speed metal, and some screamo band is death metal.

I've found that the different variations of metal have become so intertwined that it is too hard to pick out who is who anymore.

1) No vocal melody whatsoever.

2) The drum and guitar in the original almost keep constantly changing, in tempo, rhythm and melodic substance; the only riff that appears more than once is the first guitar riff that appears.

3) This may be a minor one but the lyrical content also contributes to that.

Anthrax is more punk influenced, megadeth are part of the same scene as Slayer. Slayer were never death metal (look up cannibal corpse, e.t.c its completely different.)

Listen to say, Seasons in the Abyss or South of heaven. Reign in blood is slayer's fastest and heaviest things.

Of course, I'm keen to look beyond Reign in Blood for what they can do. Admittedly, I heard some bad things about South of Heaven though (mainly the people who think they can't handle slower material), but there's nothing wrong with looking further, I think.

IMO Slayer at the beginning was the purest form of thrash around. No one was doing it faster than them. If you even look at the guys in the band, you would know it's not screamo. Screamo is things like Emery, and... I don't know, Emery is all I know, really, the only band of that I listen to. I know people have already been on to you but no one cared to actually give some kind of example.
