  • Great Stuff!! Country Music was so much better in the 80s and 90s!!

  • i love this so much i have it on dvd

  • Damn this sounds so good! Thank God I had the opportunity to grow up in this era

  • Where is the original CMT video? I can still remember almost everything about it.

    I have asked many people.

I did not record it in 1980s.

  • Comin' back for more. What a sound. Man, I would love to see these two dolls in concert. They should have won the top duo in Country Music. I think the Judds were selected too many times.

  • Awesome! Need more be said?

  • Awesome song from the pen of the great Don Schlitz. The harmonies here are fantastic. Nice twangy guitar.

  • sigh....Country Music you can listen AND dance to.......

  • They still perform! Saw them at Puckett's in Nashville last summer.

  • I used to have this album in an LP before the days of CDs....

  • @EkLarka1 me too!!

  • Does not get any better!

  • Where di d this simple stuff go? Everything today is overdubbed, overmastered, manufactured crap. ALL OF IT!!!

  • 7 people dont know real country....

  • Fine Country Music !Good Job Mitnight Girls.

  • Wow, was just talking to my daughter about country music (she's a big fan) and I suddenly remembered that I went to school with both of these two gals at Pennekamp school in M/Beach in 4th grade. During our high school years they played at our local Straw Hat pizza as well (among other local venues)before taking off for greener pastures. Gawd but those really were the good olde days----beach, sun, cute girls & surfing. Doesn't get any better than that.

Well done Kris and Janis, very impressive

  • reminds me of a nightclub called fiesta rodeo awwwwwwwwwwwww the good old days :(

  • Havent' heard this in years.

  • this reminds me of summer evenings as a kid. Not much happening, hot, and damn boring. Nothing but a song on the radio and the smokes I would steal from my older sisters (who, incidentally, had a blast in the 80's because they were ten years older than me) Oh well. I had a blast in the 90's and still do every now and again in my own way... but this song reminds me of those young, beautiful days when time took its time and you knew there was more, but you just had to grow up first :P

  • I've met them in person after a performance at a local couty fair and have autographed photos! GREAT LADIES!

  • Vince Gill plays Lead Guitar on this song!!!!!!!

  • The stuff that dreams are made of. Much of today's "country" is like a can of flat Cocca Cola.

  • I'm a sunset girl in a midnight town

  • @MissSmokeyJr really? kool thats alsome!

  • New Carlisle, Indiana

  • @MissSmokeyJr lol "NEW CASTLE", INDIANA"

  • @johnnieknown Just Sayin, New Carlisle, Hella Betterr.

hell I wanted to stay...My mom didnt thoughh.

    Country All the Way!(:

  • would someone please upload their song "Mamas never seen those eyes"

  • @stew7479 Hey, i'm not sure but that might the Forrester Sisters your thinking about......Not positive though :)

  • @bobbyozb oh, you are correct. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. You were a great help. I love that song, but have trouble finding it.

  • Pure country

  • Sanders, Arizona

  • This music reminds me of riding horses in Northern Virginia as a kid about 20 years ago. Nice stuff.

  • BUY GOLD AND SILVER!

  • Love this!

Found this cassette-tape at a flea mkt, back in the 90's.

    ... laughing still !

    Great !

  • Love this song and have forgotten all about it until I came across it on you tube! Wow we had some great country music in the 80s!

  • This is a great Don Schlitz song, and the Sweethearts nailed it. The instrumentation is awesome, and the harmonies spot on. Possibly their best single.

  • Brings back beautiful memories. A girlfriend and I practiced singing this song many moons ago. We were going to sing it out loud in front of people!!!! We chickened out. lol

Now I can just sing it here in my home : )

  • Genuine Stuff, not like today's fake country. "Heart-Breaking" wonderful love, kiss me baby. Love me in the back seat of my Chevy--hot drippin' soul, Lord have mercy. So....................good.

  • @jrusso9722 Amen to that. I very rarely listen to country hits released beyond the 1980s.

  • To put it short and sweet.....Classic Country. This was when country was still country. Love it!!

  • Kris had such a powerful voice on lead and Janis's harmonies blended so perfectly. Is there possibly a duo today who could compare to them?

I still say the selection committees had their heads up their asses when The Judds won all those duo awards in the 80s. Shoulda been Kris and Janis!

  • Well, the official lyrics to this song says, "Everyone knows where their neighbors are." I don' think that's right. I think the line is, "Everyone knows when the neighbors cough." The words "off" and "cough" rhyme better than "off" and "are".

  • it is cough

  • if i should die 'fore the world turns 'round, Lord don't leave me in this one horse town...haha!

  • This song reminds me of my childhood & we would take road trips. My dad loved the Sweethearts of the Rodeo- he had all of their tapes. Time sure does fly by fast because, that was over 20 years ago.

  • ... and that's sad!!

  • For sure, the real treasures and talent generally can't be heard on mainstream country radio.

  • I wish I could find the video to this song, I hear it's pretty good.

  • @JuJuMJFan4life ...they performed on Austin city Limits twice in the late 80s / early 90s. That was with Kenny vaughn playing lead guitar. You should find a copy of these and watch it. i have them on VHS but the tapes have been watched so many times til they're shot!

  • Vince Gill's ex. Sherry...wonder if the Notorious Cherrybombs song was bout her. I know acqyuaintences of theirs,...Sherry was mean to VInce.

  • @revmary sherry? i thought her name is janice.

  • @sharpgap Kristine Arnold and Janis Gill. No Sherry in there except maybe a glass of Sherry at the end of a concert.

  • Love the song. Did not know they were still recording. Believe one gal had been married to Vince Gill. Great music!!

  • Janis and Kris hit #4 in Billboard, 3-7-87. God bless ya, girls!

  • I agree with many of y'all.. what ever happened to this kind of country music? Now outlets like CMT try to push trash like Kenny C, Taylor S, Brad P, Kellie P and others right down our throats...

And the older acts that still appear like Hank W, Reba M and others only appear because they suck up to these newcomers.

I am just glad that we have sites like this to relive the good old days of real country music

  • I heard this on a classic country station in the car the other day, I had forgot about it....when was this song out?

  • y cant i make a coment?

  • I have always loved the Sweethearts.

  • awsome song...........

  • You have to go to Yahoo to hear it..but it's worth the trip to enjoy the change in attitude explained in a song recorded later by these two angels..."If I Never See Midnight Again."

  • This is country music. Can't hear this on the radio anymore. It all sounds the same

  • Is it true that they are from Santa Ana, CA

  • Janis and Christine never got the notoriety that was due them! Much of their sound could be attributed to their lead guitarist at the time, Kenny Vaughn. It's a pity Country music has gotten so fake and phony over the years. These girls were the real deal

  • WONDERFUL HARMONY!! I SURE MISS THEM.I HAVE ALL THEIR CD'S & PLAY THEM OFTEN.TODAY'S SO-CALLED FEMALE SINGERS CAN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO THE SWEETHEARTS(THAT INCLUDES SWIFT & UNDERWOOD)

  • Janis Oliver and Kristine Oliver; Janis married Vince Gill in the 1980s, they divorced in the late 90s

  • Yay! I love this song!!!!1

  • Classic country by a classic duo...such harmony! Today's "country" is total crap. I sure miss the good stuff like Sweethearts of the Rodeo. I'm looking for a sunset town to move to...want them to roll up the streets when the sun goes down! Want to get away from the big city freakshow rat race.

  • This is the kind of country that blows my mind.

  • its awesome

    i love this song

it is my fav of all time

  • love it

  • 5*****'s!!! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!! Whatever happened to good ole' Country Music like this?

  • My mom and I would put this tape on when I was younger and we would clean the house to it...Later when I Djed at a radio station... it became my theme song for the midnight show! Love it!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this song

  • love it

  • ich liebe diese Stimmen.

  • I love these gals...& their golden harmonies..!

  • i wasnt even born when this came out, but its one of my favs (:

  • Its increadable that country top 40 has gone from "toe tappin" upbeat melodey and lyrics to surypy dreck in just 20 yrs. or so. Never been a fan of many female singers, but these girls nailed it. Says alot when groups like br5-49, Derailers,Dwight Yoakum etc. are never heard on top 40 "country". Mainstream country radio is like f.m radio in early 70's, good music to take a nap too. RIP country radio (1930-1992) p.s. Who the hell is responsable for the crap on "Country" radio now?

  • Mutt Lange and Garth Brooks?

  • @bartmillie - sadly, John Q Public is responsible for the current radio crap because he's BUYING it! But youtube seems to be turning things around slowly.

I wound up here off a tangent from an Aerosmith vid! Thanks to the uploaders, I'm building a music compilation anyone can access with 111 playlists for every year since 1900, so you'll hear this on my 1986 playlist. 400 more lists include 300 artists & let you listen to worldwide music like you've stepped back in time!

  • @bartmillie:

In my opinion, the present state of Country Music (cookie cutter, sound alikes, no super talents, etc) derived from a combination of factors. The most critical was removing of Stan Hitchcock from head of CMT in mid 1990. Then, the selling of CMT to MTV. I have recently contacted Mr. Hitchcock and expressed my thanks for his contributions to 2nd golden age of Country Music. May it RIP. I have 1987 VHS video of this song. I will look for it. Hypnotizing.

  • @bartmillie who ever it is they killed it .in 1996 too much slow stuff and everybody trying to sound like gearge strait.i already ran out of beer .so i will cry in a cup .

  • @bartmillie The "new country" you hear today is the crowd that never even heard this country, the "real country". They were dragged in the country world by music videos, line dancing and some blue smoke and mirrors. Now its all about looks and image, not a bad thing, but that does not = good music. The country you remember is gone forever. SAD!

  • @bartmillie couldnt of said it better myself....WTF happened to country

  • @bartmillie So true....orgasmatron country. Kiss me on the neck baby. It just makes you want to yell, no better than this. Today's "country" is all the same. Nothing original. Too bad the great Waylon Jennings did not get hold of one of these tunes from Sweethearts, link in Ralph Moody on electric guitar, and blast off to the moon for yet another earth shattering reindition. Love the Sweethearts of the Rodeo.

  • @bartmillie It's the executives in the music industry. Pure and simple. They decide what gets put on the radio. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

  • @bartmillie They only let you up rate comments once.. really? Really. Really? Right behind ya man on that thought!!

  • actually they could of done better in their career but they chose family over being on the road all the time. commendable...

  • thats a good tune from them gals!

  • i met them 3 times when i was younger they couldnt have sweeter to me they were great i loved them i still do even tho they arent singing anymore

  • Of course they are sisters, and yes Janis was married to Vince Gill before he married Amy Grant.

  • wildfire, KSMusicGeeks has found this on a compliation album and posted it. But never would of found it if you hadn't give me the correct name of the group. Thanks!

  • love this recording thanks for posting

  • Didn't they sing a song called, "Slowboat to China, I did and nothing could be finer, anywhere away from you"? Anybody got that song? Or did someone else sing it?

  • Slow Boat to China was done by the Girls Next Door in 1986 (a group i have yet to see here on Youtube :(

  • @wildfire19861987 You are correct, the Girls Next Door sang "Slow Boat to China" which appeared on the defunct MTM label. This song can be found on a CD "New Country" from 1989 on the RCA label which also includes other MTM artists Judy Rodman, Schuyler/Knoblock/Bickhardt, Becky Hobbs, and Schuyler/Knoblock/Overstreet. If you can find this CD, it is well worth the money.

  • The old ways are the best, just look at us now and how things are today.I grew up in the 70's awesome times

  • I used to love this song...dancing at Doc Hollidays in Del Rio Texas!

  • i grew up listening to country because of my parents. Now all i listen to is metal and old country because what they put out now is crap. Its like it lost its southern edge.

  • Amen for metal and amen for GOOD country!

  • I Agree, this new crap aint country and where the hell do they get off callin some of it southern rock,it sounds nothin like Skynyrd or the Outlaws.Eminem is more southern or country than some of it,LOL

  • that might be pushin it lol!

  • you said it brother

  • you don't hear music like this on the radio anymore

  • This song always reminds me of where I come from Wildwood, Florida population 487

  • Great song...brings a tear to my eye to think of how good country music was then. I miss it.

  • I never thought I'd hear this song again.

    This songs takes me back.

    Thank you for posting it.

  • An interesting experiment by country radio hosts would be introducing the song as a "new country duo" ...

It would be "new" to at least 90% of listeners ... and rise up the charts.

Of course that will never happen ... but I do feel fortunate this song was part of my life when it first hit the radio :)

  • If I Never See Midnight Again is their best song.

  • Amazing how fresh they sound today, whilst at the time I was never to keen as they were Country's first "manufactured" duo, playing a style that barely qualified as country.

Amazing how perceptions change. Thankyou for the chance to hear them again, Albums seem impossible to buy now :(

  • Vince Gill's ex-wife, Janis, on the left. Great group and great song.

  • they coulda been the bomb....but they got the short stick....they were a records labels rebuttal against the Judds....poor timing 4 these ladies...they're GREAT!!

  • Old country like this is the best. The crap thats coming out today barely qualifies as music

  • i agree what a joke,,,,

  • i cant believe they didnt even get a #1 with all that garbage out there today rankin high!

  • chriss1911, when this song came out many country fans said the same thing about this duo you did about today's country music...this crap barely qualifies as country. Give us Loretta, Tammy, and Dolly they said. Everyone has their opinion, For me it is Patsy Cline and Lefty Frizzell

  • Faith and Tim destroyed country music by appealing to yuppies and teenyboppers and then everyone who followed thought they had to copy it to succeed. Its all pure bullshit today. Give me George, Waylon, Johnny, Marty and gals like this any day and keep the shit that is out now.

  • tim and faith suck! yuppies ruin everything just like they did nascar! i think its funny when kids today thing rascal flatts is country! i make em listen to waylon or johnny lee and they look like someone pissed in their beer! i agree with you

  • I would not say that I am 19 and grew up on this stuff. It is not dead, my buddies and I love to play Johnny Cash music, when we jam. So whatever.

  • yea i agree 100% i still love it! i was raised on it

  • 19 and in college. I grew up listening to this song and others like it. Every time I get homesick I listen to either this or Irish songs like Grandpa used to play on his fiddle and it is like I am home again and I am good to go.

  • this is the 1st time i ever heard it n i relly like it. it just reminds me of this weekend...rodeo :D

  • My grandparents had horses when I was younger

I still want to ride when I hear it

  • I love George and Waylon but I also like to listen to Tim and Faith as well.

  • Exactly. Loving the old stuff doesn't mean you can't enjoy the new stuff.

  • i would not call this "old stuff". 1986 was not that long ago.....but sad to say they was kinda one hit wonders, but still love this song.

  • @timm9 The Sweethearts of the Rodeo were anything but "one-hit" wonders. Between 1986 and 1990, they had seven top-tens hits on Billboard's Hot 100 Country List.

  • I remember this song when I was a little girl

  • I really love this video...I can listen to it over and over... they are real ladies....broke the mold on this class of ladies and music

  • Their harmony if perfect .......

  • I've always loved this song and their beautiful harmony. What a shame that more ppl can't see how wonderful they are!

  • Where can I get this MP3?

  • I LIKE MILEY CYRUS.NOT!

  • It's not that they got bored with it, my friend. Their personal lives turned to shit with the demands of the business and they weren't the young sexy "Nashville Whores" that dominate the scene today. These are VERY talented ladies with fantastic song writing abilities who still make the county and state fair circuit as well as upscale clubs and country venues. I'm sorry that they don't get the "air time" they deserve.

  • That's true. You have to be a slut and look like Shania Twain, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Taylor Swift to make it now.

Do you think Pam Tillis could make it now? What about K.T. Oslin? Holly Dunn? Terrib Gibbs? What about Judy Rodman?

  • Hi John...I sure agree with you on what you said,,,I have always loved them...and they are ladies..thru and thru

  • they could have done more but they got real bored whith it.i dont blame them.

  • There is nothing like old country! I stopped listening to new country "pop country" for the most part, if they came out in the 90's I will listen to their new stuff. Carrie underwood sucks!

There are a few new comers that have that old sound to them that I do like, I love Josh Turner, that husband and wife duo Joey and Rory are good too.

But there isnt many I like now days.

Murder on music row said it perfectly.

It's no longer about the music, its about how much money we can make

  • trying to find "since i found u" where is it?

  • Thank you for posting this.I miss them on the radio

  • Ten months after my comment on this song, but guess what? I'm still clogging to it! LOOK OUT, HERE I GO!!!!!!

  • come on faith hill is great!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is real country unlike that Carrie Underwood/Faith Hill bullshit.

  • Yes i agree with you 03Gadu08 esp when it comes to Carrie Underwood this group was janice gill (vince gill ex wife) and her sister i believe.

  • Exactly you said it perfect

  • This bring back memories for sure... good ole' country music... true country... thanks for postin' this one!

  • hayseed go back to your sister

  • This song never goes out of style.

  • Indeed,

It's sad to say that if anyone is lucky to hear such music again on country radio ... it is often on a Sunday among country "oldies".

The great harmonies stand the test of time and .. as you said .. "never go out of style".

  • Your right, this is a classic. New country music is nothing more than music for the "masses". I have a local station that has Rick Jackson's country oldies show & it is the best thing on radio. Thank you for youtube, I can find them all here!

  • awesome song awesome song for my mom i think shes trippin she goes from one song to the other and im stuck in all of this...

  • I remember cruising around with my Mom and listening to this tape, same album cover. Good times, good times...

  • I'm pretty sure the members of Credence Clearwater Revial were from California, but they did have a "southern" sound, much like The Eagles. I love a wide-variety of music myself (btw, I'm from Nebraska...Go Huskers!).

  • country from the 80's had a better sound . todays country is bla . You don't hear them on the radio .

  • Not just "southern" but very much of a Louisiana "swamp pop" sound, a form that hasn't much migrated outside of the state but is very distinctive--different, but related to cajun music. But yes, CCR's members were from California--Oakland--but their sound wasn't really Californian.

  • OMG, back when Country was Country and the ladies could sing. Awesome song and voices.

  • Yeehaw. Damnit..there's no Sundrop up here in MN to use as a mixer.

  • Oh, man! I grew up on a variety of music. I get stuff like Teresa Brewer, Lawrence Welk and Perry Como because my mom is a Yankee, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams because my father is a Rebel, Credence Clearwater Revival because I'm southern and Solid Gold because I graduated high school in 1985. I love Big Band, too! I fell in love with '80s country while in the military and, so, I love the Sweethearts of the Rodeo! I'm all over the music map. Any other way would be boring.

  • Good song. These gals could really sing. Wish we had more like this today.

  • Hey...anyone have the song by the Sweethearts of the Rodeo called, "I CAN'T RESIST"???

    Please, post it!!!!

    Thanks,

    Janie

  • Morning Sun, Iowa. All I have to say. I miss it.

  • I love 80's country it's fun...Highway 101 too!!

  • Gotta love 80's country music! Memories! The lyrics of this song remind me of the town where I grew up and still live. I had forgotten about these gals. But I do remember them and I remember this song. What a harmony! And a good beat too.

  • Back in the 80s they came to Portland Oregon for one of the KUPL radio station concerts and went to see their performance. Those were the good old days. They sing like the angels must sing.

  • I love this song. These women are cool.

  • Wow!!!!!!!! Brings me back to a much simpler time. Thank God for songs like this that have that kinda power

  • Great to hear Sweethearts of the Rodeo again! I'd love to hear "Since I Found You" if you can post it too!

  • Heard this song today on early Sunday morning country. Excellent piece of music -- have always liked it. Kbrtiger, I'm a LITTLE older than you (only 20 years!), but I agree with your observation -- thanks FOR it. And thanks to AJMusicGirl for providing this!

  • Wish the gifted sisters would come back and share more of their beautiful voices and harmony.

I can't get enough of listening to them!

  • AWESOME SONG!, my daughter who ws only a few months old when this song came on, would stop crying as long as I would play this song for her, sweethearts still rock!

  • I'm 22 and this reminds me of the country music when I was a kid riding in the back seat somewhere. I miss it.

  • could you post Dollbaby
