I don't know were yu people ar comin from why wud yu not be proud to be irish that strat is his signature worth probally more money than yu will make in the next 10 yrs it's a vintage 1961 strat he bought it new used it for most of his life, thats wat makes his unique sound, plus the fact he's one of the all time greats.
What tone !!!!!! Even for Rory, this particular performance, the tone from his Strat is just blowing me away. So smooth, creamy, and at the same time so biting. Insane !!
Anybody know what amp and pedatls he might have been using in this performance??? Thanks
@altadena57 The only effect Rory ever used was a range master treble booster. The incredible sounds he created were from his tone controls, and fret work. His amp was usually a Vox AC30.
@Gallagherfreak100 Actually he used Rangemaster, MXR Phase 90, Dynacomp, old Boss Octaver, Boss Flanger, Boss EQ, Ibanez Tubescreamer and Hawk Booster. He used Vox AC30, some vintage Fender Amps ('50 Bassman on Irish Tour, I think) and some other amps including Marshall half stack (JCM 800???)
I feel the vibration from my guitar and question this world for money and the ego that trys to buy .......... .... .... ... for in hindsight it's clear the dept this musician took his preformance and craft .I used to swear by jimmy page before youtube exposed all these recordings cleverly hide from my ears and eyes for so long . One day the youtube revolution came our way ever since I am a million miles away while sitting here in this chair talking with a tatoo'd lady about walking on hot coals
truly one of the best that never got the credit he was due, not to disrespect the new players but they don't make them like this anymore and you know who you are !
Rory was one of those guitar players I could never figure out why he was never given the credit he was due, truly one of the best performers I grew up listening to and without knocking down the new ones to come along but so many of todays kids really missed out .........what a shame :(
Rory was the best that's a fact! I love this tune, probably my favorite version. This version and the version from 74 tour is awesome as well. I'll never understand why he wasn't as prominent as Clapton and those guys. Duane Allman was a great slide and all around guitarist, but Rory's slide guitar work is unmatched! In my opinion. Rory was simply fantastic and underrated. The top 10 rock guitarists of all time should include Rory. Who ever makes those lists knows nothing about great guitar!
this recording sounds pretty awesome to me.. i love all the different versions hes dose....one of the best lead playing in this one ..wishd he could go on and on...what a monster tone he had! happy birth day RORY! RIP
rockfellaton, i heard this story about terry kath... and it might have been true... anyway this is such an useless debate to have, as long as we like one's music and skill why should we proove that he is the best of all time?
I think this is Rory's Best song and it has stood the true test....The test of time...It is the mark of a truly tallented preformer who paved the way for what was to come for many young guitarists....Yes Rory was amazing and to have the chance to see him play this omre than once or twice is a memory that i shall cherish until the day I die.
under appriciated for damn shure , people don't realize the importance of artist like rory, they shape vour life and they're our hero's ,but to be the caliber of person rory was ,well it was humble, honest, inviting, solom, peacefull and teacher all in one. HE LEFT US WAY TO SOON, JUST LIKE ALL THE GREAT ONES.
My uncle introduced me to Rory when i was just a kid, and i was sold whan i heard the first riff.. Ive never heard anything like Rory on the guitar. In my book Rory Gallager Is the best guitarplayer how ever held in a guitar. The range and tecnical skill of that man was incredible.. I wish i could have seen him live.. keep rockin Rory, you rule.. Kristoffer, Sweden
I just bought The Live At Rockpalast dvd set because of the posting of this song. I must tell you , it was the best investment I've made in years. Thank you for posting my favorite vesion of my favorite song krashnif!
Never heard of him bud. Sounds pretty damn good though. The style of music is similar to another band I'm trying to figure....Almond Brothers? Skynard? It's like a mix of some kind. Several bands into one.
I presume you mean Allman Brothers man? Yeah Gallagher played blues rock and would have had similar influences to both the Allmans and Skynyrd and he plays a lot of slide too but being from the South they're called Southern Rock where as Gallagher is Irish so it's just called Blues Rock. He'd be bigger in Central Europe than America but if you're into blues check him out and you won't go wrong.
Yes thanx 314. I wasn't too sure of their name. I wrestled with it for a while and guessed wrong. I'm not much of a blues fan. I do love a few tho. I think I own 1 Allman Brothers C.D. Thanks for the correction Bro. I love Freebird, simple man. later bud
quite right freind,he sure left a magnificent gift of great music for us,his death was so tragic that I just can't rationalise it,I wonder what he'd be sounding like these days,I always think that about many of the greats we lost.what might have been.
there was only 1!!!
