The "Golden Flipper" award is not really an award I would wish on anybody. I totally underestimated the weight addition but it was still fun....and shocking at the same time. The machine weighs 660 llbs without pilots and 1320 with. Here's my challenge..... you armchair quarterbacks get out from behind those cameras, build a sculpture and come test the waters with us...we want more entries in this race next year!
The pontoon placement wasn't the problem. Those have been mounted there for four years and worked fine even on more top heavy machines. What you can't see in the video is the 80 lb bucket of rocks we added to the right side just under the front right pilots seat. We added that because we've always leaned to the left in the water because of the difference in pilot weights. It was way overkill. We knew the minute we hit the water what happened. Oh, we lost 2 digital cameras, and 2 cell phones )o:
Duane, so what you are saying is that there was nothing wrong with the design of the sculpture itself. You added a bucket of rocks so that you could finally earn the Golden Flipper award. Very crafty of you.
