  • That last minute tears me up every time.........man I love this song

  • Really a great song. Love the lyrics and the melody as well as the emotional journey it takes the listener on. Syd will always be a legendary singer songwriter and the Pink Floyd went down hill without him!

  • Who chopped his head off in the glade? I'm wondering... who?

  • Fans consider this sad farewell piece as Barrett, already in the early recording sessions for A Saucerful of Secrets reduction delusional mood Syd and their minimal participation in the band due to his addiction to drugs psychoactive increasingly kept him away as can be seen in certain parts of the song: ("I do not care if the sun do not shine / And I do not care if nothing is mine" - "I do not care if the sun does not shine / And I do not care if nothing is mine ").

  • @freemasones I totally agree and I love how he nearly whispers the final lines of this moving almost open-hearted song.

  • Syd sayd us in this song that he was finished :(

  • syd barrett

  • Syd Barrett - A Musical Genius!

  • q buena cancion

  • The most beautiful pink floyd song ever! This is totally emotional. And what exactly is a dream? And what exactly is a joke?

  • It's almost scary.

It's really seems like he knew that, when people in the near future would ".. Think of me... " he would "... Not be here..."

  • It's difficult to listen to this song without feeling sad for Syd Barrett!

  • ESTOY MUY AGRADECIDO POR HACERME COMPRENDER QUE NO ESTOY AQUÍ

  • ESTOY MUY AGRADECIDO POR HACERME COMPRENDER QUE NO ESTOY AQUÍ

  • *swoon*

  • syd :')

  • This song makes me cry.

  • Shine on you crazy diamond....shine....shine in the space.....

  • ''Syd Barret's road to insanity''

  • im trippn on acid as we speak

  • Shine On You, Crazy Diamond

  • I don't care if the sun don't shine/ And I don't care if nothing is mine ... Syd Barrett I miss you that I have not yet known ♥

  • impresionante el manejo del estéreo que realiza por el final, ese efecto de que los instrumentos dan vuelta por la cabeza esta muy bien logrado, ideal para escuchar con auriculares.

  • @agentDLL yes sure, supersonic -->1994 cheers

  • Genious is a poor word...

  • @SuneTheMairn It is when you spell it wrong.

  • @ShineOnCrazyDiamond1 Haha...

I know. Don't know where that 'O' came from :P

  • One of the best songs on planet Earth!

  • 0:38 it's Supersonic by Oasis

  • @DrummerNoel no man..it`d be..supersonic by oasis its jugband blues by pink floyd

  • @DrummerNoel oasis was from 90s pink was from 60s it can be supersonic

  • this is the saddest song ever

  • "and what exactly is a joke" - most enigmatic phrase in the whole universe of music

  • This is one of my favorite songs to play on guitar at the moment. The chords are simple enough, but the emotion they evoke is just breathtaking...

  • definitely the best song on the album great lyrics check out my cover of this song if u get a chance

  • the only one on this album I didnt like was Corporal Legg.... it spoilt the sublimity of the rest of the album. I wanted to drag a pin through the track so the needle would jump to the end of the album.

  • "What exactly is a dream? and what exactly is a joke?"...Am I a little psychotic if these lyrics speak to me?

  • One of my favorite Syd Barrett songs. To bad he was done with music so early in his life because of his problems RIP Syd.

  • "and I'm wondering who could be writing this song?"

  • Holy shit, I'm a badass motherfucker (lol), but that song almost made me fucking cry. Shit, "goodbye songs" like this are so depressing, I still get chills after listening to it for 10 times.

  • One of the most joyous sad songs ever

  • @coachbk1 ..Well said.

  • Happy Birthday Syd!!!!

  • I don't care if I'm nervous with you. I'll do all my loving in the winter.

  • I can't help but feel like an asshole because I say that Pink Floyd is my favorite band, but I haven't listened to any of their earlier albums, only their traditionally more popular ones. I just can't help but prefer those ones.

  • Comment removed

  • @ResidentStudios if you haven't, then do it. early Pink Floyd are mainly singles rather than concept albums. i like all pink floyd (except "Biding my time", "It would be so nice" and some from the last 2 albums), but these songs are genius (though The Wall is still the greatest piece of art of the last century)

  • one of my favorite floyd albums. Reminds me when i was 16. Now im 21 :(

  • @Dissociation89 Reminds me of when I was 16, now I'm 54, how sad is that...........

But I'm really happy a younger generation is getting into the old Floyd, brilliant!

  • @steenje Reminds me of when i was 16, wait... that hasn't happened yet

  • horribly haunting....you can practically hear barrett's mind deteriorating.

  • horribly haunting....you can practically here barrett's mind deteriorating.

  • more is strange nore i like it

  • i can so relate to the first lyrics of this song: "its awfully considerate of you to think of me here, and im most obliged to you for making it clear that im not here." so sadd but sooo good. i love this song so much.

  • I just can't get enough of this song. One of the most perfect songs ever.

  • it suks that i cant like pink floyd. every body tells me there good but im just not into it

  • @Dirtysanz69

Listen to Echoes, in a secluded area, with the lights off. It's the song that turned me to the huge PF fan I am now. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you.

  • I love this song

  • Bring in a Savlation Army band and just tell them to "play anything what comes in to mind". Syd was an artist.

  • The sadest Pink floyd song period.

  • @uh0oo

It doesn't have to be. Isn't early Floyd the best?

  • Some people don't like this music... That's in 2nd place my Favorite music made by Pink Floyd. In 1st place was the music "Bike" with the vocals of Syd Barrett

  • PLAY THIS AT MY FUNERAL PLEASE!

  • the ending is so moving

and the sea isnt green, and i love the queen, and what exactly is a dream, and what exactly is a joke

  • annndd the seaaaa isnntt greeen

  • my second favortie song of all pink floyd...

  • @JugbandGates what is your favorite?

  • @bozboz777 dogs

  • Know the history, listen to the lyric, the melodic bedlam.

What was Syd thinking at the pivotal moment before he mentally walked off the cliff ?

Syd lays out his whole mind for you to walk through in this song.

    Have another listen now...

  • Why the fuck are you arguing about slipknot? As much as i love them, arguments about them belong on there videos.

  • Esta canción es maravillosa

  • this song kinda reminds me of john lennons strawberry fields, well i though of it when i heard this song.....probaly coz there so personl and speak the truth 2 them and to loads of ppl really

  • @taylorjaybass Well I know Pink Floyd recorded "The Piper At The Gates of Dawn" at the same time that The Beatles were recording "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." Although Strawberry Fields Forever isn't on that album, it was intended to be, maybe they exchanged some ideas or similar tunes.....

  • R.I.P. crazy diamond - Syd Barret...

  • Beautiful song. Syd's goodbye.

  • Syd wasn't insane. He was naive and young, and did OD on acid and other substances. It was the wrong timing for this to happen to him,as he did not have time to mature. It's easy to look at someone who is handsome and talented and say what went wrong. He found it hard later on to start another band like what he had when he was in Pink Floyd. He just bailed out and moved on with his life.

  • @WorldMusicKollective He was devastated that he got pulled out of Pink Floyd, you can not Over Dose on LSD by the way, and correct Syd was not insane..

  • @fagjupitor by OD,I meant over did. I hate the myth that has been built up over the years.

  • @WorldMusicKollective Ya society has gaven LSD a bad name over the past years forsure! People just truly misunderstood the concept of Albert's greatest creation there is no irreparable consequences of LSD and it is a astonishingly a safe substance and one of the least toxic chemicals known to man...

  • @fagjupitor

I don't care if the sun don't shine

And I don't care if nothing is mine

And I don't care if I'm nervous with you

I'll do my loving in the winter.

People like to assume what's worst about what they don't understand, in teh meanwhile here it is all laid out for you on teh platter. His sys Rosemary says something along the line: "They did not understand him so they pidgeonholed him". Let it go, people, STOP spreading the lie. He was a Diamond but not more crazy than yourself.

  • @VegaVelecka FINALLY SOMEBODY WITH SOME SENSE!!!!!!!!!!! I REALLY appreciate what you've written here, I really do, because I love ♥Syd~Angel♥ with ALL of my heart & soul. I just CAN'T STAND IT when people call him "crazy" or, "Schizophrenic". It's all stupid bull shit!!!! He was just an innocent & sweet man. That's ALL there is to it

  • @66MadcapLaughs I agree Syds writing ability actually was getting better at the time he left Floyd He just couldn't deal with the pressures that commercial success and celebrity status brought on. Also he did have a personal doctor to slowly bring him back like Brian Wilson did.

  • @JRG1120 Actually he had no personal doctor like Brian Wilson is what I really meant, my bad.

  • I don't care if I feel nervous with you. I'll do my loving in the winter.

  • when you actually understand what he is trying to communicate, its more sad than that scene from toy story 2. Don't pretend you don't know what im talking about.

  • The sound of insanity

  • I LOVE YOU SYD! <3

  • Hey lets not feel sad for Syd. He had a great life. He got the chance to write some great songs for the world, he founded the greatest band ever, was able to do some good paintings, and had a great ride.

  • @uh0oo but to go that way

  • @uh0oo :( I wish that were so, yes he had happy times, but I think misery and fear took over.

  • Comment removed

  • i listen to piper at the gates of dawn more than any othe pink floyd album, syd was deffinatly a musical genuis even though he went mentally insane, but i like is solo albums

  • who cares about how slipknot plays/writes their music and how pink floyd do it. pink floyd is a great band and maybe slipknot is too in their own way (i dont really know, im not a fan and dont care for them). and we shouldnt even compare them because they are two completely different bands.

  • if anyone is familiar with the story behind pink floyd and syd barrett, this song could bring you to tears. its just so sad.

  • one of the most influental songs of the last century for me.

perfectly describes a man going mad. i guess thats a song like that can only be written by a man that did get mad, and thats a shame.

  • @natrat888 It's good music, and no one can deny it's originality, but it's still sad.

  • @natrat888 i agree totally with you.... i have the same reflexion.

    hi from chile.

  • When I look at the album cover from a distance, I can't help but see the Mad Hatter.

  • I met a guy once who printed out 600 copies of the lyrics to this at school every day

  • Comment removed

  • quite possibly, the saddest song ever written, recorded, and unleashed upon the world.

  • syd barret, the crazy little man with the guitar!

  • i love how this song portrays what was going on in syds mind at the time, he was allready going mental from all those acid trips, this was the last track he did with pink floyd, this song feels like you are lost as he was, crazy how a song can do that, its a work of art,

  • radiohead certainly learned from the Floyd. Compare this with the last track of Amnesia or other tracks...

  • Song time keeps changing between 6/8, 4/4, and even 2/4. Syd's greatest song.

  • @adt33 im agree. this song is a masterpiece. i just love this song. and i love the 60s pink floyd, its awesome. god bless syd..

  • beautiful point of syd to make upon his departure, and still the world sat back in awe of what pink floyd became, legendary , and yet it was tragic.......

  • Great song from IMO Pink Floyd's Most underrated album

  • asyd is my drug

  • I love acid. This is one of the best music sightings that I have ever had. Thanks for the great idea @TheNadiaSchwartz.

  • SYD.

  • What? people talking about slipknot and emo stuff in the presence of pink floyd? has the world gone mad? oh yeah... it has

  • It feels like I have been waiting all these time to hear this song one more time ...

  • That opening line is so heartbreaking and smarmy, "It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here, and I'm most obliged to thank you for making it clear, that I'm not here."

    Genius.

  • ugh....its Most obliged to you for making

  • i wished people would listen to the Syd Era but everyone always starts at Dark Side and don't look back to Piper or Saucerful, i listen to every era and i like them but The Syd Era is the most interesting

  • @Mokenofrs Hell yeah. I have the entire Floyd discography and I listen to Relics and Saucerful of Secrets so much more than The Wall or Division Bell.

  • you guys should try to listen to this song when your drunk. SO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheNadiaSchwartz Its even better when you're tripping on acid. ;)

  • @fiendishing not so when you're tripping on peyote on the other hand... I can't hear the higher tones!!!!

  • @BraedenX Weird! I have never had a hallucinogen affect my hearing so that I couldn't hear certain tones!

  • my favorite Pink floyd's song <3

  • @LadyLennon1983 the dark side of the moon is good, but this is better!

  • A beautiful piece of music.

  • I want this song played at my funeral.

So it will be an awesome funeral.

  • Sid Baret rulz

  • realmente Barrett es sensacional, me encanta este tema, HE IS REALLY A GENIUS

  • They're like a whole different band with syd is crazy and yet amazing i love it

  • people are talking about slipknot in here? gtfo

  • the ending is heart breaking. never have i heard a man putting hius mind out for the world to see shine on syd

  • This is a totally rational, brilliant song for someone who is borderline schizophrenic. It makes perfect sense. In fact it's a masterpiece. It's fricking amazing, period.

  • and I don't care if I'm nervous with you, I'll do my loving in the winter

  • I find the syd barret floyd to be so much more brilliant than the waters floyd despite my high regard for those albums. It bothers how most floyd fans I have met are unfamiliar with syd and the more psychedelic floyd.

  • i agree 100%, people need to really listen to early floyd

  • @ambiguouskater

who cares what other people listen to, just be happy YOU have found the wonderful sound of what we call Pink Floyd. Others most likely just don't get it

  • @Logik420films

oh jesus, you couldn't be more right.

wow that's my first highest rated comment >.<

  • To me, Gilmours stuff is boring compared to Syds

  • coulnt agee more

  • Best song off the album IMO. The Syd stuff is really overlooked.

  • @PinkFloydAreGods This was the only song on the album Syd had a hand in writing.

  • @popomczowzow I think Syd wrote Vegetable Man as well, though I could be wrong.

  • @tshewes

now that I listen to it I think you're right. I was just going off of what I read on a description on itunes (which probably isn't the best source...)

  • most good bands have an airheaded leader for the beatles it was paul. for floyd it was waters. both were talented & salesmen

  • @bleaker84

Did you just call Roger Waters stupid?. Waters isn't an airhead, he was actually quite smart

  • airhead doesn't mean stupid lol it means he was big headed like a ballon. he did take over the band he ended up driving out the keyboardist. watch "inside pink floyd". waters got frontman syndrome.

  • Thank you Syd. I'd give it all up if we could just have you here today.

  • ha! and here you are.

  • syd barrett is now free from his mental illness. rest in peace my friend.

  • @timninerell if it wasnt for his mental illness we wouldnt be hearing his music

  • this is possibly the best psychedelic song ever writen.

  • @timninerell almost, that would be light my fire from the doors but this is really good

  • go away, kid

  • Ok sorry that was duechy. I actually despise lady gaga but was bored so i thought i would get some floyd fans riled up

  • Brilliant song.

  • This song is insanity incarnate. Just brilliant; one of the best songs ever written IMO.

  • its awesome and i like pink floyd.

  • being on the fringe is something that is obvious to both parties involved...i think (imo) syd wasnt down with the same things the rest of the band was, he knew he was waning away, so did they, and they preemptively(sp?) prepared for his departure...wish you were here...
