  • at these prices...

  • This scene was shown intact years ago when they were showing The Lucy-Desi comedy hour. I taped it on VHS. Then the complete DVD set came out and it was deleted. The thing is, much of the stage action revolves around this knowledge of her hives, and with the deleted scene, it makes no sense.

  • a while ago there was this full episode on YT. now I can't seem to find it :(

  • I love Tallulah !!!

  • @SpaceCowboy641 i'm related to her :)

  • @TheAdarasol Be proud and lucky !

  • I love Lucy

  • This explains how Lucy knew strawberries would give Tallulah hives when she gave them to her in the play.

  • @kgmaj Did you know Luka Magnotta is Tallulah Bankheads cousin ???

  • "im not the one who came barging through the door like a bull out of a chute" hahaha love fred

  • i have the complete series on dv and NO this scene is NOT on there nor is it on any special feature.

  • I was so upset when I read a couple of Bette biographies and found out that she was supposed to play this part but couldn't because she was looking at buying a new house and opened the door to what she thought was a closet but instead fell down a flight of stairs. Tallulah is good at this but Bette is THE REIGNING QUEEN OF ACTING FOREVER!

  • americans will laugh at anything.

  • I don't no why but every time Ethel makes the buzzer noise I can't stop laughing

  • Lucy made me a fan of Tallulah Bankhead too!

  • I agree that the "allergic to strawberries" portion of this scene is not included on the DVD. However, the plot point is revealed again in the scene when Lucy visits Tallulah in her kitchen to apologize. Lucy presents her with a jar of jam, and states "You'll be glad to know that they're blackberry and not strawberry. You don't have to worry about getting hives." Tallulah replies with "My hives and I thank you." Therefore, the remainder of the episode still makes perfect sense.

  • Not a lost episode.

  • I'm not sure why you consider this missing...it was included in the DesiLucy Comedy Hour that I have in my collection. I've watched countless times and this is certainly nothing new to me.

  • Ethel looks very young in that cute maid's outfit. Oh yes ....

  • I love Talluah's accent

  • Are you people sure this is on the DVD set? It isn't on mine.

  • Tallulah Darling!

  • @chilvari I read that the Margo Channing character in "All about Eve"is based on Tallulah Bankhead.

  • @TZEITEL10 That's not true. The original writer of the book that this movie was based on was formed after a 1920's actress. However, I do believe that Edith Head was instructed to costumize Bette after Tallulah's wardrobe.

  • it on my dvd disk

  • i'm related to her

  • ive actually never seen that lil part before after watching da full episode on utube

  • In her autobiography, Bankhead claimed that her "first performance" was witnessed by none other than the Wright brothers,

  • This isnt a lost scene

  • @toby099 Wouldnt it be funny if she was still alive and actually gave a rat's ass what some YT peeon thought of her? Yes, that would be funny.

  • @vanessafabulay

yes that would be somewhat amusing

  • @vanessafabulay Funny? It would be hilarious !!! What she would think, i can imagine - but what she would SAY would maybe a surprise even for the people who know something about her !

Well, some few people don't like her, but I hope the overwhelming majority loves her (as I do) - I'm stick to my goddess and redcommend for her dislikers strait jackets ! lolololol

  • I didn't know that the Hives scene was lost. I've got it on tape somewhere, and they always played it on The Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour. So, when did it get lost?

  • The Official Second Season of The Lucy Show is being released on DVD July 13, 2010! And it's in Color! It is now available for pre-order on amazon. And it co-stars Vivian Vance(Ethel)!!!!!!!

  • @steven1660 Is this the Lucy Show that was in black and white before she became Mr. Moonie's secretary?

  • @themaytagrepairman No, its not the Lucy Show, this is the Lucy-Desi comedy hour, it was I Love Lucy One Hour episodes. They are 13 1 hour long shows. Desi isn't in the lucy show, and Lucy plays Lucy carmichael not, ricardo.

  • Could you please upload the full episode with this footage intact? I looked at the missing scenes on the DVD's and this scene isn't in there. It just starts after lucy says "I'm so glad. Oh, I mean. The strawberry reference isn't in there on the DVD version. Thanks.

  • I saw this scene on TV last week

  • I knew when I was growing up watching this series every sat night that Tallulah said she got hives from strawberries. I knew I wasn't going nuts! I agree with you all too, I don't know why they didn't put it in. It was only like...25 seconds.

  • I have the dvds and this scene is absolutely in there.

  • Why couldnt they just include this scene on the dvd? I too was confused at the end of this episode when she mentioned the strawberries.

  • See: Sirens of The Roaring 20's with Tallulah Bankhead career, lovers and what happened to her after 1930. She became quite wealthy; always the acerbic wit, a promiscuous devil-may-care liberated woman.

  • @bqfoster whats a may care liberated woman? and acerbic wit?

  • The first time I saw these episodes back in the mid 80s, these scenes were absolutely in the broadcast. However, the ones played on my local channel were not "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour", but the intro had cartoon characters and it was called The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show. I also think it was subtitled "I Love Lucy."

  • Has any explanation ever been given as to why this scene was cut from the DVD release? This is proof that some Lucy episodes on DVD have indeed been edited and are incomplete.

  • oh my strawberry pie LOL

  • I remember YEARS ago seeing this scene on Nick @ Nite Lucy Eps and I was wondering why they didn't put it in later years. Good thing I know it is real, cause I thought I was nuts for a minute thinking I made it up. lol!

  • why is lost?

i have the dvd collection and the scene is in the actual show

  • This scene has been lost to us for years. The early releases cut out the strawberry explanation, so the duck sauce in the play later in the show made no sense.

  • well it makes sense then

yeah i wouldnt understand if i havent seen the scene before)

  • I'm not sure what the exact date of this episode is but I'm guessing it was around 57, which would put Tallulah at around 55 when this was filmed. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I think she looks damn good for 55, especially for back then, and considering the way she lived her life! lol

  • Im just in awe that just ten years later Tallulah looked TOTALLY different. I mean there are things about her that make you know its Tallulah but her looks changed dramatically with each decade. I know why though- drugs and alcohol.

  • Lol I've been wondering about this for years. Now it all makes sense - thank you!!

  • that was funny

  • Funny show, boss.

  • I have the complete series on DVD, and there is no mention of this scene in the actual episode, nor did I find it in the special features.

  • it is in the special features portion

  • i love lucy

  • Can anyone tell me if this scene is on the "I Love Lucy Complete Series DVD"?

  • it is

  • OMG! i have been watching I Love Lucy my entire life and i have only seen the "hives" part once when i was like 4 or something, so i have alway known strawberries gave her hives and wondered why i never again saw it on tv, the rest of the show makes sense with this bit included! thanx for posting!!! ~natalie

  • Omg, I'm getting crazy just hearing Tallulah's voice...she was so amazing!

  • why would this scene be deleted? her allergic reaction to strawberries is integral to the plot.

  • I have the dvd set of the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hours, and the episode doesn't feature any dialogue about the allergy or the hives, and there are no deleted scenes involving it either. Where is it included on your dvd set? You got me curious. Thanks.

  • It's in the episode...

Like when she gives her the strawberry sauce (during the play), which causes her to start itching like mad.

Also, when Lucy tries to come over to apologize, she accidentally discovers her neighbor's "allergy."

There's no real dialogue, but you actually have to watch it to see.

  • You mean references to strawberries and itching? I know. That's not what I meant. You said 'this is in the dvd set', so I thought you meant this lost clip where Bankhead says she's allergic. Without this dialogue the episode makes no sense.

Someone at a tv network did some dumb editing and cut the sentence out. And it must have been the version that stayed in syndication. It's not even five seconds of footage but it was edited to make room for commercials. I know, it's no big deal. Never mind.

  • This is my favorite episode of all of the Lucy/Desi series. I watch this episode over and over. I love Tallulah! It's great to finally see this missing scene. And yes, Ethel's "unlimited bickering" statement looks like it was edited, and it is different here than on the 1997 vhs because here the audio matches the video when Ethel says it. Love Vivian Vance also! Very under-rated actress and great singer too!

  • i bought the complete series and i enjoyed it

  • They originally wanted bette davis for this part as the celeb next door. But bette got into a riding accident and was unable to do the show. Bette and Talluah haVE the same mannerisms. It's great.

  • It's ironic because Bette and Tallulah didn't get on at all lol.

  • Bette Davis and Tallulah Bankhead have so many weird things in common is not even funny for two people who despised each other.

  • i don't think they necessarily despised each other. they we're just too much alike to be around each other

  • Yeah, but that was not real enimity, Tallulah just carried on and on about it because it was good for the radio shows and kept her in the media (or so she said), and Bette did say that they only met once and Tallulah was spoiling for a fight, but Bette did not take the bait.

  • Yeah but Tallulah owns Bette Davis, so sorry LOL. Bankhead is supreme!

  • I LOVE Elthel at the end. "Ehh!"

  • I have the DVD collection and for some reason i didn't even think about it when Lucy mentioned her hives later on in the show but thanks alot for showing me this because it never passed my mind.

  • When Vivian says "At these prices, we should have unlimited bickering privileges" it looks messed up, like she isn't actually saying it.

  • I bought my mom the DVD collection, for christmas.

  • Can you please tell me where did you get it from because I'm interested in getting it myself. Ta :-)

  • At Target, for about 200 dollars. It's worth it. TA!!!=->

  • Lol thankyou very much. They wouldn't have a website would they? I'm in England lol.

  • Tallulah Bankhead is my 3rd cousin she really is im not kiddn she was my gdad 1st cousin n they were rlly close

  • I want to see the part where she's getting the hives and she starts scratching...LOL!!

  • Oh yes that bit is HILARIOUS!

  • Now that episode makes sense! Lol

  • That was on the DVD's if you have the "I Love Lucy The Complete Series."

  • Thank you for posting this! I recall this scene being included in the "We Love Lucy" specials of the '80s, but as you note, it's been missing from the other versions since then. This has been a source of personal frustration for me.

  • Oh my gosh! Thank you so much! Do you happen to have the Season 4 Replacement Disc that has those lose scenes? I'm just dying to see them. Thanks

  • I never saw that!
