  • Looks awesome!! I love the rearview shot of the roost! I need vxl on my blast.

  • the on-board camera shots looks sick! amazing!

  • @TheBoschie - Thanks dude!

  • All it needs is a G.I. Joe on a tube!

  • @1redneckseabee - lol.

  • I'v been trying to find a villain ex at my hobby stores iv looked at three and they all told me they dont make them any more

  • @boygofastboys - you can still find them. do a google search and order it online. :)

  • would this work with less powerful brushless motors and 2s on each motor? and be more stable

  • Yes, I have finally decided after much testing that this really is just too much power for this hull design. A bit more than the stock setup would be good, but this is completely overpowered. lol. It does pretty good on 2S each, but 3S is just psycho. lol.

  • OMG twin VXL Engiens AWESOME xD

  • hey jetlag2222, I am new to brushless motors, and i was wondering which bruchless motor is larger/ more powerful, the velineon 3500 or the brushless motor that is in the spartan.

  • The spartan uses a bigger Velineon motor, the 540XL with the Marine VXL-6S ESC. It is quite a bit more powerful than the 3500 VXL. and can run on 6S lipo. The 3500 VXL can only run on 3S. :)

  • how fast is the ex stock?

  • now put 2 mamba monsters in it ;)

  • @bjornke123456789 If he couldn't go past half throttle in this video with twin VXLs, he wont go past one eighth of throtttle with twin MMM. Now if you just put 1 of those Mamba Monsters in a Spartan, that would be fun...:)

  • @SuperPwndProductions thats true but on i big lake it will bee fun

    realy

  • hey jetlag, what kind of camera is that mounted on the reaper?, because i was stumped on what kind of camera to get to capture all the intensity of my mini revo can handle, but im not geeting the waterproof version for nothing, i plan to get the trucks point of view when on the water, thanks I'd appricitate it man

  • @jugglesandmrmathess he mounted a go pro hd camera on it

  • @bjornke123456789 thanks bro, those have the best quality, so i hear

  • is this all on your property wondering because i watched ur twist therapy vid (witch was awsome) and i showed a small pond also nice vids keep it up

  • nice man

  • thats crazy

  • Love your vids! Btw I'm taking a wild guess at this but: does it have too much power? LOL

  • lol. good guess. This hull was NOT made for this kind of power. Anything past 1/2 throttle becomes almost uncontrollable. But it was still a fun project. Looking forward to testing the new Titan once it's out. It has the right hull for speed. :)

  • @jetlag2222 It is out! Go to tower hobbies website and search traxxas titan

  • on a scale of 1 to 10 how much do u like this boat????

  • Love your vids man!

Is your setup simply one ESC to one motor to one battery? And both of them connected to the receiver using a y harness? And were the twin VXL systems difficult to install?

    Thanks!

  • you have 3s power bro..

not 6s, that would be to much rpms on your setup

    kinda slow and pricey

Hobbycity has motors and speed controls for less than half what you spent that would spank this setup!

  • @brushless55 if u know better why don't u make a vid then and he means 3s per system so 6s at the end get it now

  • @chrissurinam

    Uh hello?

3s per motor is still a 3s system!

you could run both motors on one 3s pack

6s is 22.2v and those motors will not run on that many volts.. get it?

and take a look around the web, many have built this boat with Turnigy motors and speed controls for less than the price of one VXL motor and esc and had much better speeds

the VXL motors are awesome though!

    Traxxas makes some cools stuff..

  • nice boat but it needs to be faster but it's a good design

  • I have a Villain EX, I put a Novak twin motor esc and better then stock motors, I do not remember the turns. plus Octura props. I could not control the boat past 1/3 throttle, I was running 3600mah nimh batts. So I am installing the struts from a Venom EKOS, and rudder.

  • yes agreed titan has a better hull. thanks to pioneers like jetlag us mere mortals get to own a titan!

  • would it be bad to run 2 batteries with the same voltage but different MaH?

  • YES.... don't do that. the smaller one will run down first, and then it will get very hot as it get's almost reverse charged by the bigger battery. Good way to ruin a battery. :(

  • exactly what type of batteries are you running

  • 4S and 6S lipo. 5000 mah 25C

  • exactly what type of batteries are you using

  • good idea, awesome modding! shame it doesnt seem that fast though

  • actually it's extremely fast. I never got above half throttle for this video because above that it's uncontrollable - the hull really wasn't made for those kind of speeds. The new Titan brushless boat that just came out uses a very similar power system (but just 1 motor) and has a MUCH better hull design for speed. :)

  • 1:09 to 1:13 is that the extra water cooling kit from Traxxas coming out the side of the boat?

  • Man how fast does this thing go

  • Traxxas robbed your idea... BTW they should have kept the v twin.:)

  • rofl. I doubt that's how it happened, but I do like the looks of their new boat. I might have to get it too.

  • I think that Traxxas is watching your videos, taking tips from your works of art. I mean, they should just hire you! BTW, i like the v twin better. ;)

  • lol. I'm waiting for their call. :)

  • do you want to sell it for under 650$

  • Thanks for the offer but I can't sell this boat. It was a present from my wife and she would kick my *** if I sold it. lol. Plus I like it. :)

  • poor jetlag...see you could've just bought the traxxas titan!!!!

  • Well actually it wasn't out when I built this boat, so I couldn't have. And I will probably buy it too. :))

  • cool boat i am planing on buying a traxxas boat any tips

  • do you want to sell it

  • hey have you heard about the traxxas titan it is coming out at the end of july finally traxxas is making a brushless boat!!!

  • make sure to either tell us, or post a new video when you radar gun the thing, I'm curious as to how fast it goes. I just found out about a new boat traxxas is putting out that can do 50, the titan. I'm just wondering how the dual vxl villian compares.

  • Yes it has the power to hit 50mph. However, because it was never designed to have these huge motors in it, it becomes uncontrollable on 6S lipo at about 40 mph. turn fins on the stern would probably help a lot, but I haven't added them yet. Definitely check out the new Traxxas boat coming out. It will be cheaper and faster probably since it's designed from the factory to go that fast. :)

  • cheaper and faster is to do a single drive with a turnigy 120A esc and a Turnigy 1800-2300kv motor on 4s.. $60 for the esc and $20 for the motor

    speeds in the 40's!

  • can you make the gears taller for more top speed? or maybe bigger props? does it have counter-rotating props with the vxl in it?

  • great video

  • How much money did you end up spending in upgrades for that boat?

  • about $400 US. $150 each for the twin velineon BL systems and $95 for the metal props. I already had the lipo batteries so I didn't spend any on them. So as you can see, this upgrade isn't really for everybody. It's not cheap. :)

  • @jetlag2222 its not cheap but i think i will buy the boat this summer and then get the motors, lipos, and metal props for c-mas this year so it will be all upgraded for 2011.

  • damn jetlagg!!! you should try to stick a velineon inside of a micro t!!! LMFAO!!!!

  • Nice!!!

  • sweeeeet! now just put a mamba monster in it! !!!

  • hey do ur u joints break alot

  • how dit you jet the cam move arond at 1:40

  • I used panning software built into Vegas Pro.

  • mooi bra hw mutch would i cost me im i cape town and what cogs are there and what if u put the big cog on the motor and the small pinon gear on the shaft

  • Nice.........wish you showed a top speed run.............i'd race you though!! Got mine up to 38 mph the other day.................gonna break the 40 barrier soon! Got a vid of mine on here. Title is: Brushless Traxxas Villain on 25.2 volts - 6s Lipo - #2

  • That sounds sweet! I don't know what my top speed is yet. But I have a buddy coming up in June to my house and he is bringing his radar gun, so we are sure to test it then. :)

  • is that the 27mhz? i believe i see a long receiver cord from the antenna.

  • Yes, I haven't converted this model to 2.4 yet.

  • weird, i always thought the villain automatically came with the 2.4

  • nope :)

  • you should change the props, you should have enough power now lol

  • I already did... :) it's got Octura X447 metal props and shafts on it now. THey work really well.

  • Really nice boat :D Do you know how many horsepower it has with that Velineons?

  • No I don't, but it's a lot!! WAY more powerful than you actually need on a boat this size. :)

  • sweet!!!!

  • Thx dude!

  • Wow! Sweet paintjob and power package!

  • Thanks man

  • i wonder how if a set of 700ho's would be an upgrade.

but they put out more torque dont they?

i belive the villain ex has a evx2 with a water cooling jacket?

    btw great vid 5/5

  • They would definitely be faster and stronger than the titans, but I wonder if you could get them to fit... they are bigger and require a special mounting bracket. And the space where the motors go is really tight already. One nice thing about the velineon 3500s is that they are the exact same can size. so they drop right in with no mods.

  • totally AWESOME boat

  • Thanks man!

  • nice boat :)

  • Thanks dude!

  • man that is sick you must have crazy cash .......your mods are endless on all your rc,s

  • Thanks dude!

  • WOW!

i would be so scared to flip it though.

  • I did. several times. :)

  • @jetlag2222

How do u flip it over?

  • tons of power and sharp turns. :)

  • @jetlag2222

O sorry i should have been more clear

i meant how do u flip it back over when it flips?

  • well it's mostly luck. I didn't mean to do the barrel roll in the first place... just hit a wave wrong at high speed and it happened. lol.

  • Tottaly awsome :D

  • Thanks man!

  • those motors are both spinning in the same direction rite?

  • No, actually they spin opposite directions. so one spins clockwise and one spins counter clockwise. This allows the boat to excelerate straight forward without any torque twist of the hull. It's a good design. You just run one motor backwards and one forwards. with brushless motors you just switch any 2 of the 3 wires going to the motor. It's quite easy.. :)

  • the techinal name for it is counter rotating props i think :)

  • Yes that's right. :) But wasn't sure everyone would understand what that meant.

  • the villain takes that power like a dream! have you tried different props? :) 5 stars.

  • Yes I upgraded it to Octura metal props running on 4mm to 3/16 metal shafts. it's crazy powerful now!

  • cool

  • Thanks man

  • EPIC wake shots !

  • Thank you! :)

  • Nice!!

  • Thanks dude!

  • Thx man

  • I want virtual reality goggles..so I can do this realtime...stand on the dock, and have my brother throw water at my face as I rip the rc boat through the inlet and jump waves in the ocean all by using the camera onboard...some military type stuff, SICK...!...got to find some topless chicks tanning on a boat and do some rc boat spying!!

  • ROFLMAO! I'm in! I'll even pay for half if you can guarantee we will find some hot chicks! :))

  • 4:12 reverse wake! Dude, This video is AWESOME! Too cool!!!!!! Oh man !

    CHEERS

  • lol. Thanks man. Yes this one turned out good!

  • Cool Vid! Nice Boat! ;-)

  • Thanks man!

  • Nice and crazy job ;-)

  • Thanks dude. This was a fun project. I plan on getting it out on a real lake as soon as it gets warmer.

  • Ha,ha,ha. Creazy and 2cool! Barrel Roll :-) This is a perfect toy for the summer. :-)

  • Thanks man, yes it's a great boat for the summer.

  • nice speed ;-) would there be any difference if you put velineon from E-revo vxl?

  • Thanks! The VXL3-s/velineon 3500 is the power system from the new SLASH 4x4 which is more powerful than the velineon in the mini EREVO. And we used 2 of them. :)

  • That there's a wallet-assaulting mod!

  • It's not really that bad... these (2) VXL-3s power systems cost about the same as (1) Mamba monster system. And ton's of guys have gotten the mamba monster... including me. :)

  • well I gotta keep my hobby within my budget, otherwise I would've already gotten a MM setup for my Summit. I'm about to hit college I can't seem to find enough scholarship cash, let alone a job :p

  • I hear ya. Keep your priorities straight!

  • ya, i know. hopefully i can get together enough for tuition so i wont have to sell my Summit.

  • No Fair :)

  • lol. sorry. :))

  • KILLER VIDEO man,i always wanted a boat but this makes it worse. Not sure if i would want something that fast haha. I saw a guy stall his boat once at the lake and he waited an hour for a boater to come get it...That killed me on boats...

  • Thanks man. The best way to run a boat is in the summertime sitting on a real boat in the middle of a lake. Then if it dies you either just swim over to it, or take the real boat over. :)

  • i found one of these at my dads old shop a while back with no remote and didnt want to spend money on the remote hehe

  • ps i favorated this vid :)

  • thanks man!

  • That lake is far too small bro. But fantastic job on the boat I cant wait to take out my villain.

  • rofl! Thanks dude! It didn't seem that small till I put the twin brushless power systems in. :) But yes, this was just the 1st test on a pond close to my house. I will be taking it out on a real lake soon. You can bet on that! lol.

  • Thanks man! This was a fun project! :) And yes, we are already planning our summer get-together. I promise there will be both... maybe even a few surprises thrown in too. :)) something to look forward to.

  • omg thats the sickest villain on yt i could go on and on with how cool that is it kicks my villains butt :( lol freken crazy vid 100/10 if thats posible that thing rocks :)

  • rofl. Thanks man! especially for the 100/10. Awesome. Yes this boat is TOTALLY overpowered now. lol. Mempey and I worked on this project together. He upgraded his villian EX with the same mods too, so be sure to check his boat out too!

  • cool i cant wait to see his nice job on the paint i roled mine once and i have sank it 3 times and had it for 8 yrs and never had to do one thing to it it may not be the fastest boat but it is one of the most reliable :)

  • Yes even totally stock the Villain is a great boat. I've had mine for a couple years. A few weeks ago Mempey and I started brainstorming about how crazy we could make this boat.... this was the result. It's stupid fast. :)

  • stupid fast inded :)

  • a mamba monter?!?!?! will that even fit?lol

  • lol. no it wouldn't even fit without a lot of custom work... and you need 2 motors. This boat has twin props. And the monster ESC is NOT waterproof so it's a bad idea for a boat. These ESC's and motors are 100% waterproof. They are the exact same power systems as in the new SLASH 4X4... except we used 2!! :)

  • While you are correct about the ESC, I don't think the motor is completely waterproof. Brushed motors do work in water, but I've heard that it's not that great of an idea to run a brushless motor in water. Unless you have something to seal the wire ports on the motor, water can short it.

  • Actually, most BL motors run just fine underwater. It's one of the main reasons I picked them. Watch my video about jumping my mini EREVO into a swimming pool. :) I have several of these motors. My slash 4x4 I run underwater all the time. Water CAN damage any motor if you run it at excessive power levels underwater, but most brushless motors can handle water much better than brushed motors and these motors do great. The motors in this video have been submerged many times already. :)

  • Just a bit more about this for everybody... brushed motors can easily burn out the brushes underwater as in the titan 550s - which burn out all the time... the exception is the KD 700 HO brushed motors which have special break-in procedures and work underwater great. Brushless motors have no brushes to burn out, so most of them work just fine underwater. The Traxxas Velineon BL motors do not short out underwater and work great for this type of project. That's why I chose them. :))

  • that is insane, you gotta try a mamba monster in there

  • Thanks man! This setup is actually more powerful than a mamba monster. Because each velineon 3500 motor is about 3/4 as powerful as the monster motor... and there are 2 of them. Plus the mamba monster isn't waterproof so it's a bad idea for a boat. lol. These motors and ESC's are 100% waterproof.

  • yeah i was thinking about that and then youd need two plus they probly woldnt even fit

  • no that's an amazing boat great job man!!

  • Thanks man! we had a good time with this project!

  • Hey everybody, Mempey and I worked on this boat project together. We both started with a stock Traxxas Villain EX and then upgraded the motors to brushless, the ESC's to VXL, the batteries to 6S lipo, and the props to metal - among other things, including new paint jobs. Make sure to check out his boat too!... I will be linking this vid to his in a minute.

  • Amazing HD man! Again, great job.

  • Oh yeah, I like how it is taking a leak out the side. lol

  • You are one crazy boater man! Awesome shots of the washouts and barrel roll! Unreal footage dude. I love it. I will get out and film mine on the next sunny day if I can. Great video man! Fantastic job. That sucker looks bad ass! I'll check it out again when it is in HD.
