Nice Video! If you want to see this cam in action...check out my page! All my music video were shot using this camera! Note that they all have been color corrected though. Overall the Sony HDR-CX500v is the best HD cam you can buy. point. blank. period. Also note, Youtube degrades the quality of this cam...the videos are much clearer on my computer before uploading to Youtube!
Thanks for posting the test video, the IS on this camera far exceeds the XR500v. One thing you can see however and both the XR and this have them is the bowing of the image. The outter edges of the image dip down and the center bows up. I don't think it's a big deal but I did notice this in my testing.
You know that is a good question. I think it would be safer and less worry that is for sure. Although I have read someone dropped one of their HDD cameras from a good distance and it hit hard but still ran ok. In the end I decided to go based on features but that's me. I was comparing these two cameras also (along with the Canon S11) and check out the CX500/520 version of this video. I felt the video wasn't as clear compared to the XR500/520 or the S11.
hmmm my comment didn't post.. You can check this by hitting pause on the video. (do it when it's not motion blurred) I also saw this reduced clarity in the motion test video of the CX500/520v compared to the XR500/520v posted here on youtuve by camcorderinfo. What I don't understand is that these are supposed to be the same camera I thought. I played with the CX500v in Best Buy and the IS is UNREAL! In the end however I steered away from the CX500 because of what I was seeing here.
I will also add that after much contemplating and comparing I ended up going with the Canon S11 which has a new updated IS and has an effective video pixel of 6mp as opposed to these Sony versions which are 4mp. You can see the richness the 50% greater megapixels gets you with the S11. I decided I'd rather have the extra video quality over the IS but I can totally understand why someone would prefer the other. It's not an easy comparison! The S11 can be had on ebay direct from Japan 4 less.
I can see the difference in the richness when you pause the motion test videos. Good luck with your decision. Either way you go I'm sure you will be more than happy.
Well I thought that except for some of the obvious differences like the HDD vs flash and not viewfinder on the CX I thought the rest was basically the same if not upgraded on the CX but it kinda seems like the XR is better. On the transfer speed it's going to be hard to say. In the end they have to a certain min transfer speed to be able to properly record the video on the fly. If I had to guess I would say they are probably pretty close in xfer speed. but that is just a guess.
Well I still have time to make a choice. But for sure I will go for sony. Great quality and lasts long. My old handycam, the DRV-TR27 still works good but I want a new HD camera so I can shoot great videos.

I think that's the image stabilizer...but I think it's better than shaky images

Yeah I agree, it's not that that noticable.

Im deciding if I will get the XR500v or the CX520v... I thinking maybe the flashed memory based is better. What do you think?

I think the XR is better though but may I want something faster on transferring to a computer...what do you think they're the same or something?
