That's all they use. However, they're slowly moving to solid state media. Consider that your typical editing deck for either of the two formats below cost between $36,000 to $85,000 per unit, and studios have LOTS of these.

Cameras run $16,000 to $29,000 without the lens. Lenses cost between $2,500 to $85,000.

Sony cameras use Betacam SX tapes.

Panasonic cameras use DVCPRO 25Mbps (most common), 50 to 100 Mbps is used for high definition.
