I think you should stop dissing each other (what obviously happend 5 month ago :-) and accept that both singers have their own way of expression.... leonard is a legend and founder of a very unique style. There is nothing bad about this version... very well made, David covered it in his way of art... remember, there are so many shitty covers out there. i am always happy when i find a good one and that´s what this one is.

This is an amazing version of this song. The upbeat steam-punk nature of it is very fitting. I'm trying to buy the song or the 'I'm Alright Now' album which this is on, but I cannot find it on iTunes or Amazon or anywhere else.

your opinion is indeed humble. Nobody does Leonard Cohen music like Leonard Cohen, much like nobody does Tom Waits like Tom Waits.

While an interesting interpretation, this breezy version does nothing to bring out the underlying heart f the song. Cohen's slower, nuanced performance brings out the insidious nature of the person he's singing about. He brings out the hurt he'd feeling at being betrayed. Nuance is lost on the pop music crowd.

Just to reply here myself, I really like Leonard Cohen but Ford's voice just has such a better impact on this song, I just think Cohen's voice lets the pure genius of his song writing down sometimes (a la Dylan). Although, I saw Cohen this summer and thought his live voice was ten times better than what I have heard on cds. To clarify, this is a David Ford cover of the song, not mine, so I am not "ripping off his song" just putting this brilliant version out there

I can see your point regarding Cohen's voice, though I don't think it applies to this song. With 'Hallelujah' being publicly 'rediscovered' it's great that vocalists with a more standard range cover his songs, but I find Everybody Knows to be such a bitter, sarcastic work that Cohen's style fits it perfectly.

I'm not denying this is one of the better covers I've heard, but in my opinion at least, it doesn't quite capture the dense and morose ambience of the original.

I get what you mean about the feel of the song, I guess I just prefer it kinda sped up like this, which to Cohen purist probably would think takes away massively from the song itself.

On a side topic, I'd love to hear a Cohen acoustic performance, have you any idea if there is an acousitc Cohen CD or something along those lines?
