The deer was killed instantaneously and he ate it for food probably (as most hunters do)

All throughout history people hunted for food. Also without hunters (other animals too, not just human hunters) the deer and other herbivores would overpopulate and die of starvation.

Also, hunters (whether animal or human) serve quite a practical purpose as without them many herbivores would become overpopulated, impact the vegetation of the area while as a result disease and starvation would make its way through the population. Burgers, Chicken, ham, turkey, the list goes on all of those foods comes from animals like this deer, but they dont die quickly and painlessly they usually die slower and scared.

Man has dominion over the animals. Just don't abuse it. I'm a hunter, and yes, I do find hunting incredibly fun and theres nothing like the adrenaline rush before you shoot a deer. But my motto is, "whatever you kill, you eat." that's any real hunter's motto.
