Is there more kata or kumite in kyokushin training? I already do kickboxing and i'm thinking of starting up kyokushin to add to my striking, will it be of a good help?
You can train only kumites and techinks, but you can`t adwance to next belt without kata`s..but basicly if you want to train parallel with Kik to add some mooves yes you can..
I appreciate the art--the spinning back kick has been highly developed. Though I thinks it's a little ridiculous that punches to the head aren't allowed--all combat reality is lost.
Friend imagine that somebody beats you in the head witout glowes or any protection in head couple minutes..Whad do you think, how long you will able to stand that and how will you look after that..this is MA Kumite not street fight...
@Patriot1389 Yes I can imagine it. I have seen it. The Brasilians called it Vale Tudo. Also, the first boxing in the States, was bare-knuckle, and they would fight as many as 80 rounds! So there is no problem "standing" it. You just have to fight differently.
I guess my original point was that it seems strange you can KICK someone in the head as hard as you can (or want) in this kumite but you're not allowed to PUNCH them in the head.
Bro first boxing in states was before Dampsey 100 years a go!!
You surely couldnt see that and they didnt fight 80 rounds, but if you want that kind of story watch Roman Gladiators or Greek figters in Olypia 200 yeas ago..I mean, get serious bro..
Punch is allowed becouse its harder to do that punch in the head, after all I think we commented about this here about 100 times..best!
@Patriot1389 Kicks to the head do serious brain damage (specialy on the long run). Bare knuckle punches may hurt a lot and look bloody, but they hurt the hand like hell, so the punches are lest powerful and do less brain damage (yeah, oddly enough since boxing gloves were entroduced, boxers have more brain problems 'cause they get hit harder)
Bare knuckle fighting has been around for a while, and nobody's complained up 'til now. Don't fight if you don't wanna get hit.
@Patriot1389 To interject here a little my understanding of the early days of bare knuckle boxing was they didn't really hit the head that much. Not becasue it was illegal but it hurt the punchers hands. Gloves in boxing are to protect your hands not the other guys head.
@Patriot1389 The longest boxing matches in recent history (with and without gloves) have lasted more than six or seven hours; this fact shows that it is not impossible to fight with punches to the head. Humans are surprisingly tough.
So I find it a little bit strange that punches to the head aren't allowed in this style--especially when you can kick someone in the head (more powerful than a punch).
It seems almost funny how they punch each other in the body but ignore the head.
Bro dont get me wrong,I broke mans nose and 2 teeths in street fight with one fist hit(before I train Kyoku)..and you want to tell me that some box figts without glowes lasted six hours?!?!?
Kyokushin exists 50 years, and ther was an official Muay Thai challenge back in 1964..
Result was 2-1 for Kyokushin..but Muay is afetr Kyoku favourite MA and most respectable..Unfortunetly there`s no clubs in my country for Muay training..
I don't understand those spin kicks. I'm Wing Chun, and we recently had an opportunity to participate in a kung fu/karate tournament, and a lot of these types of guys were there with their spin kicks. When they spin around like that, all I had to do was come straight in and throw them off balance while their back was turning. But the guys in this video are just ALLOWING the other opponent to turn around. I just... don't get it. You waste so much time turning like that.
@WilliamMacBroadcast I know what you mean....in Muay Thai we would just coverup get inside and blast his leg out from under him, or overhand him, but then again for some of these guys you would have to be very fast, some guys won't telegraph..
@WilliamMacBroadcast the spin hook and back kick generate crazy momentum and cause a great deal of damage. if the user is fast enough then it's a great weapon.
if not he'd have to feint or bait them into missing guards. it's not a waste of time when the kick can easily drop when landed or even only partially guarded
@WilliamMacBroadcast The back spin kick is a defensive technique, in shotokan karate hits to the back don't count for any points. its actually a great kick if you can utilize it properly
@WilliamMacBroadcast what you are seeing is the climactic moment, where they are throwing the knockout kick. imagine that for 5 minutes this guy has been throwing low kicks and mid kicks the whole time. so you become focused on that trying to block those cause they are destroying your knee and ribs, and that's when the guy fakes a low and does a spin. the extra half second it takes is offset by the fact that he has established a pattern of doing damage using other strikes the whole time.
Great video. Inspired me to dig my old Black Kings video out. Kyokushinkai black belt myself, but been retired for years. Many good memories though. Thanks!
I practiced Shotokan for 20 plus years - but to be truthful Kyokushinkai is a superior and more dynamic form.... and those chest punches alone may not look much, but they hurt like hell!
@Ericoyster1 I did 15 hard years of Shotokan, and I too say 'hat's off' to the Kyoku brothers. That's some serious stuff. I didn't think it was so easy to get punched in the collarbone until I started sparring with those boys.

Excellent vid, great music choice. The blonde fighter at 3:27 has excellent defensive movement, and used it well since his opponent obliged him and just continued to chase him, but I do think he forgot the name of the game: Win, and you do that by hitting someone, outpointing them, putting them down. Thanks again for posting this vid.
@Patriot1389 Thanks for the clarification. Nobody can fault his technique or tactic...I fault the opponent. Maybe I'm just getting too fat or too old, but when somebody only wants to counterfight me, I stop chasing them and draw them out of their strength. Wait, I AM getting too fat and old! Have a great day!
I would like to see too,but problem is (in my case its good) that most of good Kyoku fighters who got the tittle of Sensei or more less choose to open their Dojo`s (schools) and teach other this great skill...
I meet a lot fighters when it was European Tuornament in my country outside the Tatami (ring)..You wouldnt beleave how much this people in real life outside ring are kind, peaceful, non agressive and they talk normally..I was surprised too,and tommorow you watch how they atack like pit bulls..
This Kyokushin style competition is totally wrong: you can put yourself in the position of being kicked...you should always try to keep the distance so that the opponent can't use his legs.
I wouldn't include the Kurbanov vs. the big JJ guy fragment at 1:45. You've obviously seen the whole thing - even though Lechi won, had that been not limited to bare knuckles knock out rules he'd have gone down in that fight.
Watch Andy Hug,Francesco Filho,Glaube Feitosa,Nichollas Petas etc ni K1...They are all Kyoku Fihgters so this sprt isnt BS..And one KO from synthetic Overeem isnt destroying..
@SSGTA440 wouldnt help though if the art went in to blocking a little more lol. so far all i see is let me stand here and take 6 punches in a row to my body and block kicks with my face. i like the full contact but still too much of a tai kwan do where if you stand close and the take the opponets feet away you can demolish them with mua tai basics. excuse me for spelling the martial arts wrong as i do not care enough to google.
I wonder what makes a person willing to risk his life like this. One blow could very well end youre life or leave you destroyed and dmg for life without even beeing able to take care of youre self or go to the bathroom.
I wonder if they have familys and how much they care about them.
And i wonder if it looks more dangerous then it is, how many deaths / broken, damaged necks do we have etc. It must be a lifestyle like a total religious devotion of some sort.
@Patriot1389 Google is your friend :) Nick Diaz is one of the world's best and most exciting professional MMA fighters, former world champion, BJJ black belt, triathlete and a guy, who's a little bit insane. I understand that you're a bit offended that people come to your video to talk about something completely unrelated, but if you knew Nick, you'd realize how cool is it to have him like your video.
@SuckitLiIly, Man you definetly have no idea of how a striking fight is lead and what's the difference between kicking and punching. Quite more often you can get punch to the face than a kick. Also, Kyokushin has shinken shobu rules - includes elbows and punches to the face. Yeah, Kyokushin is complete - shins, feets, punches, elbows, knees.
Kyokushin is more about endurance and showing heart than it is about realism. Punches to the head without gloves would just brutalise it (remember that it is an 'art) and introducing gloves would just make it kick-boxing or muay thai (total respect to both). To stand in front of an opponent who could kick your head off your shoulders or break your ribs/sternum with bare knuckles (without protection) will quickly introduce you to the art of kyokushin.

I did kyokushinkai for many years changed then to muay thai.
Kyokushinkai is- with all due respect, a less effective sport when it comes to a no rules fight.
Muay thai teaches you to use all the available weapons a human being has to offer.
Both styles are awesome sports and should never be chosen by the effectiveness or by what causes more damage to another person!

Patriot1389 1 month ago
@Patriot1389 Yes, that'd be the case. That could be a street fight, but not a karate match. It lacks the principles.

This Kyokushin style competition is totally wrong: you can put yourself in the position of being kicked...you should always try to keep the distance so that the opponent can't use his legs.
istocco 1 month ago
@istocco
Distance is exactly what you need for great leg kick..
Patriot1389 1 month ago
@Patriot1389 Exactly!!! A great kicker only needs distance, but in kyokushin Karate you can kick without distance.
malegria1234 1 month ago
@malegria1234 Youre wright..
Yes,but kick is much stronger from distance..

Karate is very dangerous if your not properly trained.
dragoon2784 1 month ago
I wouldn't include the Kurbanov vs. the big JJ guy fragment at 1:45. You've obviously seen the whole thing - even though Lechi won, had that been not limited to bare knuckles knock out rules he'd have gone down in that fight.
This from a kyokushin guy. Osu
ennot 1 month ago
@ennot
Yes Kurbanov with different rules would lose that fight...
But I think he would be down becouse difference between them was 50kg!

Hmm I dont know what you have been eating?
Many of the top names in K1 has Kyokushin background.
Need i name anymore than Semmy Schilt ? (background Ashihara and kyokushin)
And if we look at UFC just take a look at George Saint Pierre.
My bet is that you have never ever practiced full contact sport at anytime.

But who am i to judge, as a soldier

Who is Diaz?!
Patriot1389 2 months ago
@Patriot1389 Google is your friend :) Nick Diaz is one of the world's best and most exciting professional MMA fighters, former world champion, BJJ black belt, triathlete and a guy, who's a little bit insane. I understand that you're a bit offended that people come to your video to talk about something completely unrelated, but if you knew Nick, you'd realize how cool is it to have him like your video.
Amber8Helen 1 month ago
@Amber8Helen
I dont know Nick becouse I dont like UFC only Kyokushin and K1 so I dont need to search about him..
Im not offended only there is videos of Nick where their fans can leave comments about him, here about kyoku fighters and Kyokushin..
And yes Im from Europe and here sport is not showbiss so it really makes no difference to me if nick or some anonymus guy liked my video..
Well afer all where is nick to say something about the vi,nevermind I respect his fans and him..

AryanBulgar 2 months ago
I do Taekwondo and I admit, this is such an awesome art.
AAC1990 2 months ago
There's shunken shobu rules - knees, elbows, kicks, shins, punches - all allowed everywhere. Go learn mroe about Kyokushin man.
AryanBulgar 2 months ago
DAMN! just look at that hit 1:22
Lxrk 2 months ago
Kyokushin is more about endurance and showing heart than it is about realism. Punches to the head without gloves would just brutalise it (remember that it is an 'art) and introducing gloves would just make it kick-boxing or muay thai (total respect to both). To stand in front of an opponent who could kick your head off your shoulders or break your ribs/sternum with bare knuckles (without protection) will quickly introduce you to the art of kyokushin.
