I have a question I don't find any answer on internet. Are LXDE/OpenBox based distros able to handle multiple processors? I have Dual core 2,1GHz but LXDE task manager only shows CPU usage for one... I heard once that it depends on the Kernel I use (for i386, i486, ...).
Is this good for a netbook running a 1.60ghz intel atom processor, 160GB HDD and 1GB memory? I need a snappy OS for it, it comes with Windows 7 Starter and it's really slow at times....would this be good or would I be better off with xubuntu?
just want to say that spup has been around allot longer than slacko has. spup is the base that slacko was built on. also spup was the base for lighthouse puppy. .
Openshot actually does work from the PPM, configure PPM to have the slackware, salix and slacky.eu repos and do a search for openshot-1.3.1. (There is an older one, 1.2 that you may or may not want.) There is one caveat. You alsoneed to search ffmpeg and grab the older 0.6.3 version. Unfortunately this breaks mplayer.
@sneekylinux Thank you. Biggest challenge is that I've learned the microsoft operating systems from dos 5...and at windows 7 I still use dos 5 knowledge to function. So starting with Puppy Linux is like starting with Windows 7....It just feels like I should have the same level of knowledge in linux (puppy) that I have in windows..lol. Puppy vs Windows is night and day.....I haven't messed with linux except for small appliance purposes. I was able to install wine...
@UT00ber50 both wine ans crossover are not windows and don't run all windows applications. crossover is more a commercial app that you pay for. if you have the source package for crossover it should be possible to install. but you are better to either join #puppylinux chat on freenode and the forums and look there and ask questions.
@sneekylinux when you opened abiword it kind of lagged when going full screen, was it the video recording or was it like this when you were using it initially?
@sneekylinux that kind of makes me depressed, i mean i dont use puppy, but to see that lag on a light distro kind of disappoints me, but what can we do?
The chat is verry helpful for me. I love th 5.3.1. Today i install it on my 4GB harddrive.
I awso run USU 7 on my other harddrive (it's a Bulgarian version based on Ubuntu).
I have a problems whit the old versions of Puppy Linux, so i disaded to go for 5.3.1 ;)
Gread job mate!

(cotinued)Anyway, I am going to try to make an sfs of openshot-1.4 which should be able to use the newer ffmpeg in Slacko.
Blender from the blender site seems to work ok.
I'll have to package gtk-rmd.
Don't worry too much, we'll get there ;)
Best regards, 01micko

How would you, is it possible to install Crossover on puppy linux...and is wine just as good?
I am also looking for a way to connect to windows shares without success and to make shares that windows can connect to.
UT00ber50 4 months ago
@UT00ber50 yes you can install wine from the repo's and you need samba from the repo's for sharing to work

Is there anything stopping you from going to virtualbox site and downloading it? I do that regardless of weather its available on the distro or not.
fatriff 4 months ago
@fatriff well you would have to compile it your self and some peeps are not happy with that

Seamonkey (default - preinstalled) is also very, very, extremely slow to change tabs - up to 30 seconds with 3 tabs open & all downloads finished.
