  • Ooh lovely. Have you heard Gustavo Santaolalla? :)

  • Pure awesomeness :3

  • From one musician to another, I know how hard it is to record music for YouTube. You play beautifully, thank you :)

  • Beautiful...very moving. Thank you.

  • Nice... it makes makes me want to take up playing again :-). Thanks for sharing!

  • Very Nice...very Nice.

  • Your music is just as fantastic as your humor. Thank you for soothing my soul and lifting my spirits!

  • Hi Paul! You know, I've totally been in love with you since the Engineer's Guide to Cats! I was just going back to listen to your music this evening, which I also love. My kitties love you also. Dee Dee (white kitty, AKA the Queen of Sheba) is sitting in my lap purring loudly as I listen to Facing East. Skippy Jo (black kitty, AKA Nefertiti) is napping. Anyway--we just wanted you to know that you (and your videos) are loved. A big shout out to TJ, who gets best supporting actor!

  • So beautiful and soothing, exactly the kind of music I needed the past couple days. Thank you. :D

now... teach me to play guitar!

  • You are a very dynamic individual. =] I mean that in every sense of the word.

And this is a beautiful song. How long have you played? I am a musician myself,

and have a soft spot for unique sounds.

I very much enjoy all of your videos.. Please keep them coming.

  • You sound like me, age 15. Or just yesterday when I could play & was loving the sounds I found. The ghosts of crumbled tissue that the sunset sets aflame for no reason but to print a picture of lowing cattle heading home. Lazy summer memories blurring in the window looked out on from my friend's house, (now transversed by houses, falling snow & a 4 lane) when she & I were one. Fragile, abandoned, forsaken, filled up by other things. Thus memorable The sweet by & by we had learned to play

  • BEAUTIFUL light... very different mood from the stormy ones, still just as much mood though.

    nice song. :)

  • Loving the melody, melancholic, blue grass or country style...

Wish I could play guitar... :-(

  • Wow, awesome. I'd buy your CD if you ever put one together.

  • Wow, I love it. A musical engineer who appreciates cats, and has a wry sense of humor. I'm in love!

  • Very lovely but....where's the red shirt?

  • Beautiful! Evokes many emotions as I listen, all of them quite mellow, yet a tad melancholy, but with hope as well...Does that make sense??!

  • You love music and that's great!

  • I'm facing east as I listen to this. Good stuff.

  • I love it!

  • Awesome! And you're an engineer? That's not a common combination of talents. I am now a fan (but not a stalker, Well, maybe Zoey.)

    Ninja Emery

  • Every engineer I've met has an artistic side.

  • A hopeful piece, with elements of soul. Not bad.

  • Very soothing. Thanks Paul.

  • Do you think you'll ever record an album? Cause I would totally buy that.

  • I agree! I need some after work help cool the anger music, and this would be PERFECT!

  • Wow, this is nice. :)

  • u've earnt a favourite!! :P

  • Love guitar playing.

  • Peaceful, with just a hint of dissonance. That's good - you were starting to sound too "perfect". But that would be really nice to wake up to in the morning.

  • Lovely as always Paul.

How can you say that Kansas lacks exoticism and beauty when you make it yourself?

  • holy shit dude, what a nice comment! some deep stuff there

  • Wow! It's like you engineered a magical musical moment!

  • Wonderful. A little surprised one of your housemates wasn't trying to help you play or at least supervising the event.

  • I would wager the cats wrote the music. Or at least helped.

  • Another lovely performance

  • Very pretty.

  • Lovely

  • who says engineers can't be soulful and funny? You are both. Thanks for all your videos -- they are a bright spot in these unfunny days

  • I'm glad you're not hiding your talent. This music is really great.

  • Paul, it's wonderful to watch you getting your Nick Drake on! Thanks for this lovely wistful addition to my world.

  • This was a great tune...I listened to it over and over at work! Wonderfully played!

  • lovely!

  • Love your song. very pretty sound.

  • So beautiful!

  • Very, very nice!!

  • Love it! Very soothing. Good to listen to while I do my homework. :)

  • Its like ambient guitar music, Brian Eno style.

  • love it....! I always wished I could play the guitar!

  • You have a beautiful soul, Paul. It comes through in your music. Really lovely. Your sound quality is really fantastic on this one.

  • sound pretty good!

  • I already commented, but wanted to add...If you adjust the lighting (by fiddling with the screen brightness) so that you can't see the background...just you and the morning light through the window, this video goes from very good to great! Not sure why, I guess it just seems more intimate. Anyway...keep it up! : )

  • The Kitty Gang give this video 5 stars and 5 extra large buckets of catnip! *****

  • nice - could work in other genres too.

  • Very soulful and easy without being mainstream. Very Nice- Thank you for sharing this!!

  • Very beautiful! I found it to be very Beatles-esque. Thanks for proving that us engineers can be artistic too!

  • Beautiful!

  • Not to completely disconnect from the vibe, but skimming over the comments while I listened made me think. Do you think that your career choice has played a negative role in your love life, Paul? I'm heading down that road myself, but am at a point where I could still diverge into another career much different than research science (not exactly your field, but would be for the first several years).

  • Without a doubt engineering offers few opportunities for straight guys to meet ladies. Efforts to recuit females are helping but the guy/girl ratio is still very slanted. I've been lucky to have hobbies and interests that provide social opportunities and most of the intelligent ladies I am attracted to appreciate both the technical and creative sides of my personality. In that sense I think it is more the person as a whole rather than a chosen career that determines success in love.

  • The stereotype of engineers as loners has me considering the causes for such a stereotype to exist; too much so it would seem.

Thanks for your reply and keep it up with the videos. I've got my fingers crossed for more Engineers Guides. :)

  • It is unusual to be a person with artistically creative and analytically intelligent. I have this problem myself. I call it a problem because I often find "artists" to be too undisciplined intellectually, but "technicals" to be resistant to playfulness or creativity. I think success in love depends upon choosing wisely and looking for qualities that one would like in a true friend as much or perhaps even more than "hearing bells."

  • The cats are missing!...kidding..;-)

Really enjoyed listening to you, sooo relaxing.

  • that was beautiful, such a nice calming song! wonderful!

  • That was stunning - I like the whole composition and atmosphere around this video/guitar performance. The few seconds silence at the end fit in aswell - to sigh of relaxation.

  • And I listened to it with the sun coming up... this was fantastic. <3 I melted. Love it!!

  • I'm swooning here.

    You are:

intelegent, (you don't become an engineer if you have no brain)

    kind-hearted, (you love cats)

    funny (The cat yodeling)

and on top of that you can play the guitar!!!

    Are you for real?

  • I second this!

  • Stop being so entirely adorable and so uninterested in me. Seriously though, I enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing your talents with us.

  • Will you marry me?

  • Is it any wonder you have women hitting on you? *le sigh*

  • ah you're so cool!

i wish you lived in califronia but you live in kansas :/

  • Have you ever been there? I know Paul doesn't like Wichita, but I've been to other parts of the state, and it's really beautiful.

  • Very relaxing and reflective..... nice!

  • Beautiful! More songs please!

  • Wow.

  • nice song i realy liked it
