I love, love, love Sonny and Carly, but, I agree about the mob thing. It was more interesting when it didn't seem like everybody and their dog was in it. Since GH acts like it wants to be Mob Central, they should try to make it more interesting...

The essential problem of the Sonny and Carly storyline began when they moved centre stage as the kind of 'hero and heroine' of the show. It doesn't work. They were outcasts. They belonged in an ensemble cast. Having the show revolve around Sonny and Carly completely destroyed their characters. They became predictable, overly familiar to the audience and painfully ORDINARY. Sarah Brown sensed the asinine direction of GH concerning these characters and I believe this is why she originally left.

Wow. That was a great analysis and I think it applies to the mob component as well. The mob during this era and prior was so much cooler when it was kept in the shadows and was frowned upon by almost everyone. This made it seem more authentic. This also made it seem scarier. Now the mob is a joke. EVERYBODY is connected.

If memory serves & I could be wrong here, Juan was beaten up by Moreno's thugs. He was either trying to get a job from them or trying to spy for Sonny and got the crap kicked out of him. Emily went to the hospital with Juan and called Sonny. Monica ripped into Sonny but good. Now he's having a meltdown Sonny style and nobody loses it like Sonny. Carly inadvertently came to his rescue and barely held him together until Jason got home. It was Sonny & Carly's first bonding moment.

He was Lilly's son and when he came to Port Charles he thought that Sonny was his father. When actually he is Lilly's son with Miguel. However Sonny had gone to Porto Rico with Lilly and met him with her. So Juan assumed that Sonny was his father and, because of this and how and why Lilly died Sonny was very attached to and protective of Juan and felt extreme guilt.

Maurice was SUCH a good actor! I miss this old, complex Sonny. He actually made me feel sympathy. And he was so genuine back then. stupid writers for ruining him. =( I love how Carly instinctively knew to cover up for him. This francis character is totally NOT someone I like. I like all the other body guards, specially Johnny and Max. But F is annoying.

Sometimes know how that feels, where you want to destroy everyting around you, I think we all do. Poor Sonny, he made choices early in life that he can't get out of now or in the future. I loved Sara Brown as Carly

but I think that Laura Wright is the best Carly of all. This is a scary scene- kind of freaky seeing Sonny have a breakdown.
