Coolest job ever. Sit around, tie knots, throw tied knots at shit, get up go play with guns, at end of day have beer, be manly. I'm one jealous none of the above.
I' m Argentinian. The art of throwing boleadoras is a bit lost i think. But It was used a lot by the indians and the gauchos to hunt small preys like ñandus (kind of ostrich) and to stop cavalry running away. For example in the Argentinian Civil wars, the leader of one of the factions (General Paz) was imprissoned when his horse fell down after been hit with a boleadora in his legs.
I make them out of Hex nuts and paracord, using a hangman's knot on the hex nuts, then I burn the end that comes through so it won't ever come out. I'll make a video of it, they are pretty fun, and if you use gold-colored hex nuts and black paracord it looks sweet too.
pretty awesome, but an easier way is to use 2 tennis balls and a knotted core monkeys fist, it wakes a quicker projectile when in a pinch. i used to make em all the time as a kid. and a note on the length, if your want to take a person or bigger animal down, the length of the leads needs to be almost twice as long as what is shown. sorry if i sound douchy, not trying to
@M4st3r0fN0n3 I believe your right about the length. I think the reason is I've seen bolas wrap, then when the legs are moving, the rope can slide, and it can unwind. With longer lengths, it wraps so much more that its so much more difficult to get it to begin sliding.... Something I've thought about; sometimes it can be difficult to swing them when they are so long. I've thought about making barbs on the rope, just for a little length, right near the weights....the barbs grab the rope
Great hunting tool used by the Argentinian Gauchos made from leather thongs and stone weights. I make them with 550 cord and fishing weights, real simple and effective.
This is the first time I have seen a monkey's Fist made, and in a quick, informative fashion.
My NSI Chief in NJROTC said he wished he knew/remembered how to make a monkey's fist because some yayhoo screwed up his other one made by a ship mate in the navy. Or something like that.
@colton12344321 you can only burn synthetic fibers like nylon, rayon and poly. natural ropes will not "melt" (cotton, hemp, cecil ) whipping or heat shrink tubing is preferred but electrical tape will do for most use as well
@thehawk4231 Real men hunt with their brain....that means evolving your strategy, using something that is an increase to yourself.....flies faster and further than your hands could ordinarily propel....something that can accomplish bigger takedowns, etc....
@Shifticek real men don't hunt, but get a woman to make them a sandwich and bring them an ice cold Beer.

Very Cool!
I always wanted to make one of these.
I hope braided nylon line will do, as I have a bunch.

instead of whipping it could you slightly burn it? or is that rope too flammable?
