The 173d and the 503rd Infantry is still made up of some tough and relentless soldiers...from Corrigedor in World War2, to Dak To in Vietnam, and to Wanat and the Korengal in Afghanistan...the 173d stays knee deep in dead enemies.
My Dad was at Dak To, on Hill 875. He told me 300 of them went up, and only 90 came back down. Very proud of my Dad the Sky Soldier, he's an amazing man.

I recognized a M60 gunner from my 3rd platoon A 4/503 . This is footage from 875 .Look for the red headed soldier packing ammo to the gun then putting on his steel pot . That is Spc. Bird . He survived the hill I have a picture with him and my platoon together after we took the hill Nov. 23 .
I was the Advisory Team Leader for my team at Tri Dao, north of Kontum. At the time of the battle, I permitted a MEDIVAC helicopter, whose crew were close to my base, to drop down a few feet from my outside wire, and, despite our lean numbers, to provide security. The screams of the dead and dying in my radio were just to horrible to bear. As far as I know, the Americans made it safely through the night, and were evacuated to a base near Kontum!

Dear military videocom, I guess we can agree to disagree. The CO in the video and I know he was not on both hills nor was the guy (medic) carrying the GI. I also recognize the dust off area we cleared. If you were able to pull the camera back you would see the mortor pit on the bottom right of screen set up with the trees we blew and cut down. This film is also after the fire fight and there were not that many trees left on 875! The military camera crew was traveling with the news people.
I do not think this was on Hill 875 but rather on Hill 882. I was on both of them during November. On 875 we did not have any news crews to start. We began the assult on Hill 875 and then I and a dog handler were moved to 882 with the 1/503 and there was a news crew with the unit. I remember one crazy round eye and she was all over the hill during the fire fight. I am amazed she did not get wacked. Anyone remember a crazy Engineer from 10/67 - 3/29/68? @BillSherlene I was with the 1/12 4th div on thanksgiving day we arrived on the South side of the hill we started up and about 150 yards we took on pretty heavy small arms fire held us back for about 2hrs till airstriks calmed it down think the 503 was ascending up the west side and was also slowed down by small arms there was a camera crew on the hill but not sure when they got there or if it was with us or the 503 but they wern't there when the 173 took the initial hit. best fight I was in.

I think cameras were there when we were cleaning up all the unexploded shells and every thing else. My point was all the trees tells me this was not 875. We (Engineers) blew the LZ for the dust offs on 882 and in the last shot was a small clearing and there was no such thing on 875, at least not on top. My opinion by the way, can't be a best or worst, it just was!

My Dad was at Dak To, on Hill 875. He told me 300 of them went up, and only 90 came back down. Very proud of my Dad the Sky Soldier, he's an amazing man.

I recognized a M60 gunner from my 3rd platoon A 4/503 . This is footage from 875 .Look for the red headed soldier packing ammo to the gun then putting on his steel pot . That is Spc. Bird . He survived the hill I have a picture with him and my platoon together after we took the hill Nov. 23 .

I was the Advisory Team Leader for my team at Tri Dao, north of Kontum. At the time of the battle, I permitted a MEDIVAC helicopter, whose crew were close to my base, to drop down a few feet from my outside wire, and, despite our lean numbers, to provide security. The screams of the dead and dying in my radio were just to horrible to bear. As far as I know, the Americans made it safely through the night, and were evacuated to a base near Kontum!

Dear military videocom, I guess we can agree to disagree. The CO in the video and I know he was not on both hills nor was the guy (medic) carrying the GI. I also recognize the dust off area we cleared. If you were able to pull the camera back you would see the mortor pit on the bottom right of screen set up with the trees we blew and cut down. This film is also after the fire fight and there were not that many trees left on 875! The military camera crew was traveling with the news people.

I do not think this was on Hill 875 but rather on Hill 882. I was on both of them during November. On 875 we did not have any news crews to start. We began the assult on Hill 875 and then I and a dog handler were moved to 882 with the 1/503 and there was a news crew with the unit. I remember one crazy round eye and she was all over the hill during the fire fight. I am amazed she did not get wacked. Anyone remember a crazy Engineer from 10/67 - 3/29/68? @BillSherlene I was with the 1/12 4th div on thanksgiving day we arrived on the South side of the hill we started up and about 150 yards we took on pretty heavy small arms fire held us back for about 2hrs till airstriks calmed it down think the 503 was ascending up the west side and was also slowed down by small arms there was a camera crew on the hill but not sure when they got there or if it was with us or the 503 but they wern't there when the 173 took the initial hit. best fight I was in.

@marco19477 So, which was it the best fight or the worst fight you were in? There were no crews when the herd started up the hill. I think cameras were there when we were cleaning up all the unexploded shells and every thing else. My point was all the trees tells me this was not 875. We (Engineers) blew the LZ for the dust offs on 882 and in the last shot was a small clearing and there was no such thing on 875, at least not on top. My opinion by the way, can't be a best or worst, it just was!

I lived in Georgia state for 3 years, it gets fucking hot down there, I use to take my shirt off to get cool it didn't help, I look at these vid's and I can't imagine how the fuck these guy's are doing it in full battle rattle, I mean god damn man thats gotta be a battle all in it's own, I have to have nothing but respect for these guy's, at least in afghanistan we have winter lol, these guy's were in a heat box for 12 months, fuck that, got my respect.

Not everyone knows that Dak To was the scene of one of the heaviest fightings in the Vietnam War involving paratroops from the 173rd Airborne Brigade who earned the distinction of being the only unit to have parachuted into Vietnam.Months later,these proud men of the The Herd would lose 1/5th of their entire strength in Dak To,making this unit having one of highest number of casualties in the whole length of the Vietnam War.

But China will never be a so called "super power" until it joins the rest of the more developed nations in allowing its people more political freedoms, such as free speech, elections, total access to the internet, etc... Democracy is messy and imperfect, but its liberating.

Eh, don't be so naive. A lot of the "internet stuff" is not what you think. They are trying to protect themselves from outside interference which they should do. They have a problem with class differences and oligarchism. For that matter, the US is ran much more through police state measures than people realize. They're just a lot better at it than the communists or others were. They're much better at perception management and that sort of thing.

Its usurping the US's role in Africa, Asia and even the Pacific. It uses its softpower to get what it wants in other parts of the world. agreed it does need to be moved back. Not just from China but from Mexico and many other countries. American buisness owners have sold out their own people to make a little extra money, as if they were'nt making enough off production in the USA. The government should issue some kind of extortionate tariffs on American buisnesses that open these foreign plants when they try to import their goods back here. Anything to punish them and make it less expensive to employ Americans.
