@AASTRANGE LOL...I feel the same way. A year later I emailed him to thank him for getting me started on a wonderful hobby. Hopefully there's an old collection out there with your name on it! ~ C
@Stormwulf133 Well, I felt pretty lucky...I still watch that vid often because I remember how thrilled I was to have them all...I "visited" them for days afterwards, and still do. I'm guessing we all do that, don't we? :) Cheers ~ C
Wow! What a deal! I especially like the last 2, the Bjarne and the Savinelli. I'm not in the market right now, but if you sometime down the road decide to sell one or both, let me know. Your a lucky fella :)
Hi Dan - Yes, that collection kicked me into high gear, from occasional pipe smoker to full-on enthusiast and restorer overnight. Thrilled to have it!
You paid WHAT?? no seriously WHAT?? he he he... I'm absolutely sure that was the case, the idea of having someone taking care of your collection had a lot to do with it. Great find man! Congrats!
@hjrosasq Thanks! I was so happy when I got home. I couldn't quit looking at them! I made a video right away. I just have a couple more stems to do and everything is back to A1 condition with a very few exceptions. I recently emailed the owner to thank him for getting me rolling on a great hobby. Cheers! ~ Charlie
That’s a great deal you got there, fantastic collection. I don't really like the P-lip on my Peterson because like you alluded to the tapered stem means I can only grip it between my incisor’s which puts me off the P-lip, I'll have to keep an eye out for one with a stem like you have there.
@SimpaSmoker Thanks! I think the P-lips are something that either works or doesn't. I think that they're great for wet smokers, people who hold more than clench, and for those who like to get the smoke off the tongue a bit. I try to alternate between P-lips and fishtails because I don't want my bias to limit my purchase options...there are so many great pipes out there! Hope you're enjoying that new Stanwell freehand - it's a beauty! Cheers,
Great additions! The best thing that I have found for removing oxidization on vulcanite stems is the Mr. Clean magic eraser. Water on that thing and a good 5-10 minutes of rubbing cleans stems right to ready for the buffing wheel.
@MrBlink182ishi Thanks! Yes, it was a good find. That collection changed me from an occasional pipe smoker into a full-blown hobbyist. Cheers ~ Charlie
@herecomescharlie :charlie you just inspired me to do the same mate......ill keep my fingers crossed and hope i end up having a huge stash like you.....cheers.....
Great collection there mate, at an amazing price too.
You will be sick of stem restoring by the end of it but somewhat of an expert I would imagine. You really should invest in a buffing wheel if you haven't already, they're a Godsend.
@dohngl Haha....Dean, you definitely called it! - I've been stalling on the last few stems as I'm sort of saturated for now. Once I'm done, I'll do a "My new pipe collection: post restoration" vid. I know you just subscribed, so you'll probably see that I did pick up a buffing wheel...good advice! I love it, and the gear allowed me to build a collection that I really enjoy. Enjoying your vids very much - still catching up. Cheers for now ~ c
You made a great buy on that collection! Please see my new videos on YOUTUBE and my pipe series 47 years of collecting and writing about pipes. (jjjuscfan8) suggestion on any pipe and stem always run a little olive oil on them and I would add to your bowls to clean up and the oil will keep from oxidizing. Polish with Handi Wipe cloth that has been sprayed with Briar Pipe Wipe as directed. See my video's. Jason
@rodmanprice Thanks! I was so happy- I was bouncing off the walls. It basically jump started my hobby from one bowl a month in my beloved Kaywoodie to a full-on enfatuation. I'm up to about 56 pipes, half of which need some stem work. I think my hobby-time is mapped out for the next six months! Cheers ~ Charlie
@SmoothShavingCream That definitely sounds more practical for someone with just a few pipes. Now that I have all the buffing gear, I'm up to about 39 pipes in my collection, so I guess I have a "need for speed" :) But thank you for your comment - I'm still learning, so every alternate approach is appreciated! Cheers and thanks!
Great video. Please keep us updated on your progress. I like the straight GBD. If you get them all in show condition you could easily get 10X your money on Ebay. Cheers.
@GothamCitySmoker Glad you liked the vid - at first I thought I'd restore and sell...but I seem to develop a strong emotional attachment to each pipe I restore *LOL* I think they've found their permanant home, but thank you for the observation! I LOVE that little GBD - I'm deliberately setting aside that one until last so that I'm well-practiced when it comes time to restore.
@Pipepoet Thanks Pipepoet - yes, the price was basically a gift. Depending on how much value you place on all the accessories, it worked out to around $5 per pipe. I think the old guy liked the "cut of my jib" and gave me a deal. I've been having so much fun restoring them. I'm about half way through refurbishing all the stems. I still haven't smoked all of them (including the Jensen) but I certainly will, and I'm looking forward to learning more about those beautiful Danish pipes! -cheers!
Sweet :)

Nice collection. I would suggest you put olive or avacado oil on those stems before and after smoking to stop the oxidation. Jason

Hi
I personally use 1500 grit wetordry while soaking the sandpaper and the bit in water to remove the oxidation.
Then i use some "turtle wax" polishing compound with a cotton pad (the ones for your face)
I too dont have a buffing wheel so i rely on good old elbow grease
