  • This takes me back to being a kid at family BBQ's in the park, drinkin' lil hugs and running around til it got dark outside and mom had to call us in as the streetlights came on!!! The good old days!!!!

  • wonderful, powerful showcase ... but the horns kind of lose it at 3:54 - only proves they are after all human

  • I saw them in concert 5x and never heard them play this or Runnin'.

  • the G.O.A.T.!!!!!!!!!

  • Earth, Wind & Fire: THE KING OF ALL BANDS!! If I form one together, we are going to try and to this song lol. Its possible.

  • Man, is that a horn section or what? Funky butt all the way. Love those outside lines they blow too. Just dynamite playing from everyone, which is why EWF were so great. No one today can match this.

  • What many don't realize is that the groove they got going is directly reminiscent of Gospel "Shout" music. Fast, tight and in the pocket. Check the bassline and the horn parts.

  • They cranked that so hard! To me it was JB, Jazz, and marching band infused, while still funky! EWF forever!

  • I watch this EVERY DAY, thank you.

  • Whatta feelin !!! Cool..

  • Esses caras são espetaculares, e olha que na época em que essa música foi gravada, não existia tanta tecnologia, era no talento mesmo.

  • Nothing Ever can touch this performance Live ever or ever will be.

  • This is a real live concert.....2bad those days are gone.......EWF 4ever

  • Horns, Horns, Horns...Phoenix Horns.........magic mind yall

  • That was some hella awesome horn-playing! And I used to play jazz for 35 years on sax, flute and clarinet. Really tight section playing there. Drum Corps brass sections should try that.

  • On Beta Max but its funky!!!

  • @newmonii I understand michael harris was the master mind behind the rapid horn playing..I met louis and ramlee at a 1981 concert in Oakland California..never forget it..

  • Best band of all time and i got to see them Live,Never beaten all these years later.

  • Now I know why EWF stopped playin out. THEY WENT BROKE SPLITTIN UP THE LOOT TO THE HUNDRED DUDES IN THE BAND...

  • @godbluffvdgg lol!!! Not really becuase they wrote and produced their own music. They were millionaires by the late 1970's according to a Jet Magazine article.

  • @rockjohnson80 Yeah, it was a tongue in cheek compliment. I loved this band in the seventies. I went to a public school in philly. Our prom played half the things they wrote. It was the soul sound of the seventies. I used to get my balls broken being a white guy. But, I never dissed EWF. Plus the ladies loved that shit...LOL. Peace.

  • EWF was hard to classify back them.....I was real young at the time but remember my folks playing the albums......I thought they were a jazz group .. one of the favorites......that's,...how concerts were performed...

  • Ewf at their peak 75'-81. Total powerhouses. Each player was gifted phenomenally, Together they made the baddest group in the UNIVERSE. Maurice,Verdine,Al,Johnny,Fred,Ralph,Larry,Philip,Andrew,DON,Rahmlee,Satterfield& Michael Harris. Best LIVE SHOW EWF Had! Today EWF dont measure up.

  • A testament to the Phenix Horns, the BEST HORN SECTION EVER. R.i.P my uncle Don Myrick (Hippmo)and his good friend Louis Satterfield (LUI LUI).

  • @zzzddd7 ---they were the best ..your uncle had an incredible smile...

  • I was blessed to see these live shows back in the 70's & 80's many, many times, sometimes we'd go see them 3 straight nights in different cities...the best live shows I've EVER seen in my life. Love comin on here and re-living them...

  • Worn out just following . . . !

  • Never known another band with this much synergy.

  • Al Mckay. Fuckn' crazy.

  • Too bad this doesn't existe on DVD! This is one the meanest Phenix Horns performance I have ever seen...

  • MOST AWESOME!!

  • My mind just got blown!

  • @newmonii horrible wat happened to Don...

  • I was there! at the Budokan.

  • The baddest band EVER no one can touch E.W.F

  • No dislikes, just the way we like it!!!!!

  • Judging by Maurice's face it looks like he is having the time of his life!!!!

  • @newmonii You're right but they copped their horn prowess from Kool & The Gang. (the way they played)

  • GREAT!!!!

  • I remember this show. I went to school the next day and my feet didn't touch the ground. They are the baddest group of all time in my book

  • @akilah49 I was 18 becoming a daddy. She's now 30 w/4 of my g/kids. Bad its band ever. These kids now don't get it.

  • awh sucks now. I saw this show when I was sixteen years and screamed my head off like when fans screamed at the beatles. I have seen them over seven times.

  • Most Amazing Band EVER! Hand Down!

  • Man! Seeing Maurice White with E W & F . . . This music is running um down & rolling them over . . . STILL I love it!

  • wow wow and wow

  • Can you imagine any of today's bands doing stuff like this?

  • @saanzacs No...they can't do it like this.

  • @rockjohnson80

Kool and the Gang didn't play like EWF but were equally bad in their own right..IMO

  • @1980Triumph I agree with you. They both had a great sound and nobody to this day can touch them or their music!!!!

  • @StubbyCub

    hell yeah

  • @1980Triumph This right here is Epic!!!! Ralph Johnson and P. Bailey are killing it on the Congas.

  • @1980Triumph Didn't this tour feature female background vocalists?

  • @rockjohnson80

No, this tour is for the "Greatest Hits" album, the following Tour featured female vocalist.

  • @1980Triumph "Vol.I"...Ok.

  • @rockjohnson80

    LOL.....yes sire Vol 1 not Vol 2

  • @saanzacs the answer is hell no

  • Love the trumpet spin @ 0:28

  • @newmonii I 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th that !

  • Their concerts from 1979 seem to be their best. Always good no matter what or when. But the energy here at that time seemed to be at their most highest. And always it's such a pleasure to see Maurice White perform. Amazing!!!!

  • AL MCKAY !

    driving the groove HARD.

This is a great clip, thanks for posting 1980Triumph

  • @stillphil Always driving it hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Any other band...you'd probably be saying...GET ON WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!

But, EWF...you can really enjoy them doing their thing. I swear, even if this were twenty minutes, this would still be SICK!!!!!!!!

  • OMG!!! MAGIC MIND!!! 'movin soon...upper room...paid your dues now your through feelin blue!" LOVE IT!!! They always followed deep lyrics with funky instrumentation! This live version is amazing! Check this song out on LIVE IN RIO 1980, the horns out do themselves on that one!!!

  • Uhh, Al McKay is front & center on this groove!!

Best freakin band ever, bar none!!!

  • Mio Dio, come avrei voluto esserci..........

    FAVOLOSIIIIIIIIIIII

  • oh baby...what a groove.

  • one of the baddest bands ever!

  • Maurice White was the S**t!

  • Man...EWF is funky

  • EWF was very funky, but they were just as incredible as soul,r&b,jazz artists too. That's what made them so incredibly good.

  • ALL the bands especially the 1970s bands that played FUNK,SOUL HAD GOOD & REALLY GOOD HORN SECTIONS............

the Ohio Players,Mandrill,New Birth,LT.D,the Commodores(esp their first 4-5 albums),Brass Construction and MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE '70s bands could be considered top of the line !!

dont forget ALL THE GREAT MUSICIANS THAT PASSED THRU GEORGE CLINTON's Parliment/Funkadelic camp !

JAMES BROWN had the tightest bands around.

  • Don't forget Kool and The Gang ..... Tower of Power...

  • The EWF horn section were 2nd to none.

  • The horn session is defintly off the chain.

  • This is the baddest Olde band ever.

  • F A N T A S T I C!

    I love this song!

    Thank you for this post!!!

  • Al McKay is the baddest rhythm guitarist on the PLANET!!!

  • i agree with you in fact once al mckay left the band it was never the same.......peace

  • at 7:14 thats the best soundin slide down ive ever heard!!!

  • WOW! Great post!

  • The other guitar player is Johnny Graham. He is also a good trumpet player.

  • ahh, what memories!!! I saw this band over 30 times, sometimes 3 nights in a row (Hartford, New Haven & Springfield, MA.) Just couldn't get enough. We'd come out of the shows sweating bullets. Great video...nothing like old EWF..THIS IS REAL MUSIC!!!!

  • All I want when I grow up is to go back in time and be a Phenix Horn...

  • Roland Bautista on guitar? and yea... Phenix Horns were sooo effin ill

  • Not Roland, that's Al McKay. Al McKay is left handed, Bautista is right handed. Bautista didn't come back to the group until 1981 when McKay left.

  • I Saw them on their All & All Tour 1978 great Concert DouG Hemming the Magician arranged all of their stunts. It was a great show.

  • Best EWF live footage on the internet. This is why they are in a class by themselves. PHENIX HORNS ARE GETTING SILLY ON THIS ONE!!!

  • Awsome ,nothing like it .EWF set the standard and defined what a super group is . other than the James Brown band the Phoenix horn were by far the best horn section of all time.

  • Seawind Horns and Tower of Power was also great horn sections...

  • this is vintage ew&f i love it .

  • Did you hear Verdine on the bass at the beginning?.......Beast!!!

  • Thatz that Shssss!!!! None better!! Great Post!
