Niko questions his own motives, reflects on the nature of people like him, and also has positive traits as well (his loyalty to his family and how the player has the option to spare certain enemies or not). It's called having 3-dimensional character traits. If Niko was just a mommy's boy who did what he was told by authority every single time, then there would be no conflict with in the game's narrative.
I'm 17 and have been playing GTAIV since I was 15 (legal age in Australia), and I do not copy these thought patterns. Despite how gross this game may be, it's still fun for me to play because I don't see it as I'm shooting cops, civilians or gangsters, but someone who is trying to kill me (in the game); basically survival. My parents bought me this game and I have never been in a single fight in my life. I would never harm a single human being unless they harm me and I must protect myself. You're right, the game should be boycotted, but not for the reasons you said. The game should actually be boycotted because of your damn friends calling you up every five minutes to go to the hot dog stand and if you don't they hate you for it!! It ruined what could otherwise have been an excellent game. Saints Row 2 was much better, even though the story was goat vomit. Thanks for the video it was VERY entertaining.

grand theft auto is a very good game, there is a much deeper meaning to it then meets the eye. it is about how the government sets up the system so minorities dont have a chance in society, and we are very corrupt to the extent where doing bad things is predictable activity in such a terrible living situation in america. the government actually wants things like this to happen for their own benefit. not to mention how the radio in the game blatantly rips on americas political agenda.

tbh the law of exposure is as obvious as the law of gravity when it comes to violent video games and movies, but people would have to have psychological disorders or would have to be plain stupid to be changed by video games. Except for stuff like the improvement of reflexes.
In other words, don't let games change you. In you and your son's case, pray for your mind's protection before playing. Simple.
Also, I highly doubt they are glorifying evil, they just want the money.

I am certain you are at well over 17 years old (I mean your son is), so according to the game's rating you should be mature enough to handle the game's content and distinguish fantasy from reality. But...... you haven't?
I think that mentally you are just not ready for this game. It's what I'm getting from this video at least. But do not say that being comfortable with the game's content is a bad thing nor suggest any slippery slope scenarios.

You know, it's pretty god damn disgusting how you label all parents that purchase this game for their kid as being "bad parents", and to be quite frank, it pisses me fuckin off. My parents let me get GTA 3 when I was 12, and I am now 19. I'm not boasting here, but I'm an Eagle Scout, I graduated High School top of my class, I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, and I'm studying to become an electrician. Seems as though I'm scarred for life huh?

'Bad parents buying their kids this game' wow, really? I've been playing violent games (including GTA) since i was about 7. Sure I started off with things like spiderman, but I did play voilent and 'smutty' (as you call them) games. It has done me NO HARM whatsoever. I am a perfectly moral human being that has a clear knowledge of right and wrong. I dont go imitating things that I do on games in real life. You just dont get it. By the way, Im 14 now.
