Im so close, I've lost 81 pounds so far just to join the army. So long as I continue to have god on my side and keep working hard to lose these last 20 pounds ill be headed to basic within the next month or so.
When I got to reception at Fort Dix, it was quite different. The DI's cam on the bus with clubs and beat up on the seats, rails, and windows. We were treated like crap and there was no way to walk except double-time. We had the old WW11 barracks, no heat but we stood tall and looking good. This training served us well in Vietnam.

New Zealand Army wasn't this spectacular,we basically signed the enlistment forms at Waiouru,underwent the basic Medical,Physchological and Physical tests with a Recruitment Officer,then packed our belongings and joined Fox Company,and that's the Unit you did all your "All-Arms Recruit Training" or if you were an officer,the Basic Cadet Training Course.

NO BASIC allows what you mentioned. Afterwards during their job MOS training, soldiers are given these privileges.

when did you go to Benning? I went there but I got an EPTS discharge while I was at @ reception back in September '08, thinking of going back in... I don't remember the DS saying you got 15 sec to get off the bus but I do remember him coming on and yelling lol...
@killingman22 I worked out for months with intense weight training and such. I signed up and they have PT for hopeful recruits....it completely kicked my ass. Screw working out. Run. Run and sit ups. And push ups. The idea they go for is to use your own body as resistance to condition yourself better. Itll be hard no matter what. No amount of training can prepare you for what they have in store lol Wish me luck folks!!!

well you dont need to be in shape, its actually better if you arent because if you are in better shape, you do extra work. i know a guy who came in in great shape but he ended up doing twice the work we did because the PT was so easy for him

Marines may have "tougher" training, but the Armys the fucking ARMY! You cant fuck with the United States Army. Marines are indeed in many cases "first to fight" because the president can deploy Marines wherever, whenever, without cause or question. For the president to deploy the Army, it must be approved by congress. In short, the Marines are quick hit to in most cases prevent a war; and the Army comes in and cleans house when they fail. What about units that are able to deploy quickly, like the 82nd? They can be anywhere in the World faster than the Marines and have exercises to ensure they maintain proficiency in moving out faster. Generally, if a ship with Marines is not close, you could get the 82nd and other QRF there faster. The president can order the Army in just the same manner.

well you dont need to be in shape, its actually better if you arent because if you are in better shape, you do extra work. i know a guy who came in in great shape but he ended up doing twice the work we did because the PT was so easy for him

First off, why do you think you are incapable of the physical exercise standards of the marine corp? they phase you into a marine through recruit training you would be fine...and secondly...what family is dissapointed in any young man or woman who wants to set a well structured life for his/ her self? if thats the case, dont look at your family's wants for your future...be selfish in a sense and look for your own future...the respect you will get as a service member is infinite. :]

I remember all this shit. I hated reception the MOST! 1. Just got out of civilian life 2. Drill sgt down your neck a lot more than later on 3. Don't know what the f*ck to expect 4. Getting issued shit like crazy 5. probably ot of shape and 6. smoking for all the dumbasses at the beginning of basic training. You are right, its not as bad as they make it out to be.

Marines may have "tougher" training, but the Armys the fucking ARMY! You cant fuck with the United States Army. Marines are indeed in many cases "first to fight" because the president can deploy Marines wherever, whenever, without cause or question. For the president to deploy the Army, it must be approved by congress. In short, the Marines are quick hit to in most cases prevent a war; and the Army comes in and cleans house when they fail. What about units that are able to deploy quickly, like the 82nd? They can be anywhere in the World faster than the Marines and have exercises to ensure they maintain proficiency in moving out faster. Generally, if a ship with Marines is not close, you could get the 82nd and other QRF there faster. The president can order the Army in just the same manner.

I went to Benning in `90. It`s tough, but you will make it. The courses aren`t designed to fail you. But they might beat you up some.

the army 3rd infantry division lead the charge into baghdad. this shit is weak becuase its Fort Jackson. NO combat MOS's train there. Fort Benning and Fort Knox kept it real. Army Special Forces were in Afghanistan and Iraq before anyone else too. just saying.

This is Ft Jackson, it's a pog school full of truck drivers, mechanics, and computer guys. The chances of any of these guys ever seeing a fire fight is very low. That's why it's so soft... go to Ft. Knox, or Ft. Benning and it's a whole different story

o yeah so marines can definitely do without these "soft guys". if we pull out the USAF,USN,and the army out of iraq because they are weak the USMC can do it alone and conquer the world?modern warfare is about composition and coordination.these ppl are not redundant,they are well trained not undertrained just like the USMC. you gotta have some respect for these ppl because they are the one that backs the marines and the army that fights on the ground

Easy tough guy... FYI I have seen, a few times, a Devil Dog talk shit to a SEAL and you know what happened... not a damn thing... The cracker jack didn't want none, he just kept walking. Maybe it was because their was about 25 Marines and only about 6 SEALS, but none none the less... don't get me wrong, SEALS are badass, but they just got alot of toys.
