You can just make pistons near sugar canes...It works I get 4 stack of sugarcane by just 1 lever...

a better idea is that you cut only two off the sugar cane, although u dont get as much it saves you the hassle of replanting the sugar canes again

@niinoo99 It'd have to be one extreme or the other, I think. The way that he's taking down entire rows of sugar cane at once is a simple in-game check system: Without water to allow the reeds to grow, they immediately break as soon as an adjacent block is updated (so he could even break them by placing a block, using a redstone signal, or anything). If you're just going to chop the top two off, though, you may as well plant them in rows and do it the old-fashioned way.

Attach sticky pistons to the bottom of every bit of dirt. and lead them back to a single lever. Pull it for an instant harvest! I don't think you could do that with this pyramid construction, but you could do it with a more traditional flat arrangement.

If you're going to put in this much effort, you should take the extra step and make it automatic. You can set it up so that water harvests it and brings it to a designated point. This actually makes it harder to harvest than the standard way of shaving since you have to replant.

@xTin0x I guess it's for convience. As he said "Removing the water at the top will make the hravesting easier." Which makes sense as it's only 1 water block needed to water all of those sugar canes.
