@lilmissannette She most certainly was WHITE! ...White as the driven powder white snow. So please go back to your banana tree and try another theory. She was a white skinned Greek beauty who was running Egypt, thats a fact. Google or wiki it.
She was a very hard-working actress, a dedicated perfectionist and a virtuoso at playing to the camera in character. It was during the filming of Caesar and Cleopatra that she fell and lost her baby.
Why does it say a young girl must grow up quickly ? that doesnt make no sense. Cleopatra was brutal and murdered her own sister to be queen.. and did everything to stay in power. that does not sound like a young innocent girl
she really wasn't veryy good as Cleopatra.First of all, totally unrealistic..an Ancient Egyptian with pale white skin and light-colored eyes? No way. She was beautiful and all that, but, I think Leonor Varela was, by far, the best Cleopatra.
@NightinGal89 Just because someone lived in Ancient Egypt does not mean they were Egyptian. Cleopatra was Greek, so there was a very high possibility of her having pale skin and light eyes. That's like saying if I live in or move to China, I'm automatically going to look like an Asian.
@bluzelovr Cleopatra family was from Macedonia. her linage is from one of Alexander the Greats generals. However even though she was Greek she adopted Egyptian culture and was one of the only few Greek rulers to learn the language
@bluzelovr She was an Egyptian in the same way that I am American, even though my grandparents are from Italy. Her heritage and genetics are of Greek origin, but she lived and ruled in Egypt.
@valericool Besides her name being a Greek name, she was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a family of Greek origin that ruled Egypt after Alexander the Great's death during the Hellenistic period. The Ptolemies, throughout their dynasty, spoke Greek and refused to speak Egyptian, which is the reason that Greek as well as Egyptian languages were used on official court documents such as the Rosetta Stone.
@NightinGal89 You need to read your history. The Ptolemys were GREEK, not Egyptian; she was the first of the Ptolemy pharoahs who learned to speak Egyptian. In addition, they Ptolemys married each other, usually brother to sister, to keep the (Greek) bloodlines pure. Cleopatra was said to have been blonde with green eyes (and yes, there are PLENTY of blond Greeks).
@NightinGal89 Again, I suggest you read some history (in books, not online). She was Greek, not Egyptian, and most certainly not African (the current PC bushwa). As to who's more convincing playing Cleopatra, that's a matter of taste--there's no right or wrong.
@NightinGal89 Cleopatra is a Greek name. Her family was descended from Ptolemy, one of Alexander's generals who seized power in Egypt after Alexander's death.
This is a rarely shown but brilliant performance by Leigh - one of her absolute best - her transformation from the insecure young princess into the tyranical Queen of the Nile is magnificent. And Claude Rains is of course spectacular as Caesar.
the best cleopatra and the most beautiful

It's Vivien Leigh. You spelled it wrong.

bullshit cleopatra was white....studies by scientists indicate she was likely to have a mixed race appearance with brown skin and braided hair.
but you whitewashed people just carry on believing she was white european looking.

You spelled her name wrong: she changed it to "Vivien" when she became an actress.

@HotVoodooWitch I've never heard of any theory saying she might have had blonde hair or green eyes.
Whichever the case, I read evidence they found showed that she was not at all beautiful, she was only 5 feet tall and had a very large nose.
And aside from physicals, I just found Varela more convincing, and, welll, the movie was better, overall.

To this day no other actress on earth is as interesting and beautiful as Vivien Leigh!
No other actress on earth could out perform her Scarlett O'Hara ever! She was born to play Scarlett! She is wonderful as Cleopatra Too!
Do I sound like I love her? You bet I do!

Hey, what is this?! You used most of the scenes from the magnificent clip I made!
Wouldn't it be nice of you at least to credit me? That is why I decided to put watermarks in all the clips I make!
