The swedish gov. is not the owner of this tech. It is Kockums shipyard - HDW - Thyssenkrupp. The swedish gov. has no right to reveal the technical details about this sub. If USA want to know about it, they have to ask Thyssenkrupp and if they agreed, im sure, this was not for free.

No Europe did not have to pay it back in all reality. Much the money was reinvested and reinvested and slowly into European coffers or pockets. Then there was the high tech that was given to Europe and so on. The goal was a stable Europe, regardless of how badly you actually want to play revisionist historian and claim American profiteering was the cause. It was our taxes that paid it.

@pbfuddle Yes of course, but no other nation benefitted from the "internal" European war like the US. After the war Europe was in ruins and the US industries could sell goods to Europe for money that the US lent to us. We had to pay it back. The US also benefitted enormously from the special status of the dollar. The point is that the US has fucked up all the advantages it had and is now in the hands of China. Germanic Europe on the other hand worked itself up to thriving on its own.

I "rode the boats" in the '60s & 70s after completing nuclear power school; one SSN, and two SSBNs. I liked not being found, hiding in the Red's baffles and anything else that gave us the edge.
Personally, I think that it is nuts that we don't either buy or build some, perhaps a lot, of these boats to compliment the Virginia class boats.

True, but considering the extremely weak Swedish military at the time and with Russia on the other side, any resistance would just have been symbolic, with a similar end result. Unlike Italy, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary, Sweden didn't fight against the allied forces.
