You can see that the ducks have difficulty breathing. That's because they have a diseased liver inside of them that has swollen to many times it's normal size. And because of that, it pushes up against their lungs, making it difficult for them to breathe properly.

Yes, there's a beautiful pond and grass that ducks that can be on. But this is not a animal refuge habitat, it's a farm for eating ducks. The standards in place for raising there ducks here are high compared to other duck farms.

Hudson Valley, you are no different from any other Foie Gras producer. You're all the same... beautiful green grass & scenery that only you're allowed to enjoy. These ducks are kept in a dark shed & have tubes shoved down their throats 3 x's a day. Kind of a strange thought, but If you made a movie out of this kind of treatment on humans (kept in dark cages, being force fed by tubes) it would be in the horror/sci-fi section, so why is it right to treat animals this way? It makes me sick.

No video could confirm the cruelty of gavage better than this. I watched the videos by the animal rights organizations and was shocked, but it was what I expected to see from those groups. Yet this video is paid for by foie gras farmers, and has nothing to show but rural stock footage, interviews with guilty farmers desperate to appear earnest and misunderstood, and a few embarrassed seconds of footage of ducks obviously suffering as a metal tube pumps corn deep into their throats.

Of course this isn't what all the farms look like, and you know how sick you feel if you eat too much. If they weren't making them painfully full, they could just let them eat on their own. I'm sure that the farms where I get my meat from are cruel to, but I don't see any need to add an extra level of cruelty to food production.

Large spaces for the ducks to roam, clean conditions, active ducks that are healthy. This place should be a model for farms everywhere. For those still complaining, I think the video speaks for itself. You can wish that ALL farms are disease ridden slaughterfests to prove a point, but the truth is that many places like these give their animals good, healthy living conditions.

On the other side of the coin, even if the claims of it being a "publicity" video may be valid, I don't think one can reject their side of the story while accepting the animal right's organization's undercover videos as being unbiased truth.

They also do not mention that they only use male ducks for fois gras, so all the female ducklings that are hatched are thrown out in large garbage bags, by the hundreds. Ducks also need water to wash their bills in, to keep their nostrils free of debris, but cannot do that in these farms. All this for a "delicacy"? Ridiculous!

@Miss65boo... well.... they, along with geese, do, in fact, overeat on purpose every year when it comes time to migrate (whether it's true migration or technically just nomadism). This is how it was discovered that the liver can be fattier. The birds overeat to give themselves the energy stores necessary for the trip and it is stored in the liver. Hunters noticed that their livers were larger at that time of year. No so odd to reproduce that at all. Nor is it so inhumane.

Do you know the anatomy of the duck or goose? Do you know the properties of oesophagus (in case you were wondering about what the "lining of the the throat" was called)

Do you know that the oesophagus of a duck is characteristic of the human nail; nacre. So to lacerate the oesophagus would be very difficult

Also think of this - Birds are easily prone to death if they are in a state of shock - If gavage is so cruel. Wouldn't they die
