The guy sees the boyfriend like Ahab would the Whale, as an adversary, but the joke is the extreme exxageration. Instead of wooing the girl, he instead kills the boyfriend like Ahab did to remove the obstacle.

There's no real connexion, it's just the the song is epic and it's an excuse to animate that awesome part pf that song, aswell as put a very mundane story on for context.

the guy WAS movie dick, on the first scene guy 2 appears we see him as movie dick because we're seeing him from the point of view of guy 1. on the final scene we see him as a human because we're seeing that from the point of view of the girl/audience (which is the truth, in other words guy 1 was delusional).
