No use a hollerin' no use in screamin' and crying... No use in hollerin', no use in screamin' and cryin'.. for you know you got a home, mama, as long as I got mine... Oh Lord have mercy on my wicked soul.. Lord have mercy on my wicked soul (ya know I ain't gonna mistreat you baby) I ain't gonna mistreat you, baby, for my weight in gold.
Forget "race"...it's not a valid biological concept as your inability to draw a line proves. Ethnically, Patton was "black". Pardon my sarcastic reference to the race and identity confusion of others....pardon my excessive ethnic pride too while you;re at it.
Jackson on a high hill, mama, Natchez just below Jackson on a high hill, mama, Natchez just below I ever get back home, I won't be back no more Oh, my mama's gettin' old, her head is turnin' gray My mama's getting old, her head is turnin' gray Don't you know it'll break her heart, know, my livin' this-a way? Ever woke up in the mornin', jinx all around your bed? Ever woke up in the mornin', jinx all around your bed? (spoken: Children, I know how it is, baby)
@PeluMaad -- What are you on about now? American is a "Nationality" whereas to say White, Black, and Indian is to talk about "racial" identifiers -- what don't you get?
@PeluMaad Are you saying that being black dominates his Cherokee roots? Both are so much a part of his music. He represents both sides of the most oppressed people in America during a devestating time. You can hear that in his voice. The brother's got the blues.
@donttouchmybikini ...Nonsense...he probably never heard Cherokee music or language in his life. He lived his life in the Mississippi delta where one culture existed, divided into black and white. He was part of the first generation of blacks to move from banjo to guitar. His music reflects the adaptation of African derived banjo technique, rhythm and harmony to more European derived song and dance structures.
@PeluMaad Cherokee have a really intense history with African Americans. Many Cherokee owned black slaves...many tribes also helped runaway slaves and were a major part of the Underground Railroad. It's a rally dynamic relationship. To say it didn't effect him is poppy-cock.
@donttouchmybikini are you cherokee? i reckon his daddy was a white man (because hes called charlie paton) and his mamma a mix, i reckon he wasn't very oppressed, i can see him sat on a porch drunk as fuck singin like tht strummin away. you know not all white people are racist. nd america wasnt so heavily populated back then. so he coulda slipped through tht oppression net. but i just like to think positive
@PeluMaad im sure there was the odd rational person back in them days surely, so yes i do, gotta remember its a big place, im sure it woulda been an easy kept secret.
