Cia Cherryholmes crosses over and becomes the next big female pop vocalist. Solo she can break out..Tough to do as a country singer: even tougher to make the jump from Bluegrass. It says here that she will suceed. Not as pure a vocalist as Shania but just as probable.
Folks, I just got an email this morning informing me that the Cherryholmes family is retiring. :(
They are in Troy, NC this weekend, 1/23/11 and that is their next to last show in NC. If you get a chance to see them this year on their farewell tour, please do so as this family has the best live act in the industry. They will be missed and its a terrible loss to the Bluegrass community. Good luck to the 'First Family of Bluegrass music' the Cherryholmes.
Go to their website and you can read their farewell letter. That wil lbe one awesome show,. That talked about it last weekend. They will play with an orchestra at that show. It should be a great event.
Trust me I wish is wasnt true as 5X is their absolute biggest fan ever and it stills breaks my heart that they are moving on.
@5XChamps2 - Oh my goodness! Well, this is good to know, i will make a better effort to get tickets and go this weekend. They are just such a breath of fresh air! Compared to the stuff out there - this music is just the real deal. And yes, they will be with our wonderful Philharmonic. Thank you so much for the response!!
Just saw them at Poway, CA. I think Cia has the vocal talent to make a go of it on her own. I'm sure there would be family resistance, but I truly think the only ceiling she has is the one she creates.
I understand that. However, I would think it would be tough to limit your primary musical commitment to playing with your family. The road is difficult and being only with your family would probably create many problems in the long run. I would think she would want to see what she could do on her own. (All the kids actually..)
Sorry but I hope this would never ever happen. The Family as a musical group formed as a reaction to tragedy and a need to get closer to one another, it's working and it shows.
I was like you at one time alfred! A punk kid who had no clue what real music was! Besides you go to ucla all the leftovers who couldnt get in at USC!
@22alfred The teacher asked for the 1 to 5 scale because UCLA students have trouble counting past 5 - and almost everyone got as high as 1 or 2. Cherryholmes is great...now dude go back to sleep!
cherryholmes, del McCoury band, ricky skaggs & kentuky thunder, alison krauss & union station and younder mountain string band would be my fucking dream show. I could then die a happy man hehe
Check out the show at Pocono Raceway in August -- I am seriously considering making the long trip from Tenn. even though it's a track I don't enjoy so much ... here's the lineup: Ricky Skaggs, Steep Canyon Rangers, Charlie Sizemore Band, Dailey & Vincent, Del McCoury Band, Cherryholmes, Blue Highway and SteelDrivers.

cherryholmes use to be a great bluegrass band, but now their sound and look is slick.. i think the little fame they do have has went to their head... the dress different now and their new Cd's are not that good... sad but true. i miss the old cherryholmes, the one that won entertainer of the year at the bluegrass awards.. but if i were cia and molly, i would dumb the family, they could make it own their own
I have all four of their albums, and the progression in the quality of their song is awsome. Their confidence and talent grows and shows with each LP. I hope they come to the Pacific Northwest for a concert. They are one of the finest traditional Bluegrass bands out perfoming today.

when they first started on the festival circut they were nice but lately as they have gotten a little exposure cia has really let it go to her head. she was VERY rude to me at myrtle beach one year. she has no excuse to be like that she needs to sing on pitch!
Cherry Holmes rocks; this is my first time seeing the band and to think she'd be tucked in amidst Tom's great Scotish tunes! Thanks and blessings, kevin
I saw them 1/3/09 in Troy, NC - I've seen a lot of bluegrass bands in my day, but these folks are by far the best. They put on an excellent show and were all very friendly.

They are good but I think they have let the fame go to their heads...My husband used to play with the James King Band and we both found them very rude...
really? i've heard that before but i personally have never found them to be that way. a little less talkative than most entertainers maybe. but i guess with the amount of dates they do in a year the stress gets to them sometimes.
I just saw them at Wheatland Music Festival and they blew me away! Cia's voice is so pure and powerful...one stage of great musical talent! Thanks for the clip.
Not only was that an awesome performance, but to be able achieve that quality in a live performance is amazing! 5 stars to the entire production crew, but the sound crew really stands out on this one.
glad we finally see a video from them with decent sound system, those bluegrass festivals must be fun to attned, but there is som much disruption from the crowd and being outside that it doesn't sound good on video, however, this one does.
can't wait to see this family at camridge folk festival this year. definitely the discovery of the decade for me. please come to glasgow in scotland sooooooon. love ye

Why would she want to? she has a very talented family behind her there's not a ton of players that are much better than her family is anyway.
