  • Thank you so much!

  • this is by far the best video demonstration for the kitchener stitch, thanks for the slow demonstration, I was able to catch on to the steps after a few tries

  • Hi Judy

Love your tips. They are helping me out quite a bit! I have one question though. When I follow the patterns I have for the socks I am making, the right sides are facing each other, but all of the videos I see for Kitchener Stitch say the wrong sides should be facing. I am just learning socks, so altering the pattern to have the right side out doesn't seem like an option right now. What do you suggest?

    Thanks

  • @LaurienaC

it really shouldn't matter. you are basically making a seamless seam that shouldn't show on either side.

thanks for the note and please keep watching and like me on facebook.

  • Great video. I wish you had mentioned to pull the stitches tight...I couldn't tell that you were doing that from the video. I got weird holes when I did mine because I didn't pull the stitches tightly enough. So to anybody who's trying this for the first time - PULL YOUR STITCHES TIGHT!

  • @ktveggiesaurus

yes, I guess I should have, but it seemed obvious to me. sorry.

  • @apenn121

glad this helped. I agree, reading patterns is hard. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Thanks! I had the directions in a book and had done it before but for some reason this time around the book wasn't making sense. Your directions helped me so much. The "front, purl off, front knit on; back purl off, back knit on" helps me keep my place.

    thanks!

  • Thank you so very much! The last time I tried to graft the toe of a sock using written directions, it turned out very badly. This sock looks beautiful, thanks to your video!

  • @rivetkitten

it makes me feel so good to know that the videos help. congratulations. socks can be a challenge. please keep watching.

  • THANKS SO MUCH for this great tutorial!!! I had two sides of a scarf to graft and it turned out PERFECT. I did a practice piece first, to make sure I had it correctly, but now I think the directions were so clear, I probably would have had success immediately!

  • I'm so glad when I get a note like yours. Great that it worked out so well. Please keep watching. Thanks.

  • You demonstrate and explain so well. My only experience with knitting was watching Wilma from The Flintstones "Knit one, Pearl two" (using two bones instead of knitting needles), and the wool yarn was being drawn directly off the coat of a live sheep standing in her living room!

  • I love the Flintstone reference. We've come a long way!

  • Many thanks.

  • glad I could help.

  • Thank you again for another great video. I have always had trouble with this stitch. your instructions were great as usual. I finished off the mittens for my grandson and it looks good. Practice will make perfect.

  • yes, that;s my motto. the more you do something the easier it gets.....at least for me.

  • So. I found a pattern on KnitPicks for a scarf (the Seaman's Scarf) that you knit the two halves, then graft them together using Kitchener stitch.

Would I have to do anything differently, since I would have yarn coming off of both needles, because I"m essentially grafting together two separate projects instead of closing a tube?

  • Do the same thing. There will be more stitches. I did it on my multi stitch baby blanket video.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy

Thanks! My scarf turned out great.

Now I'm making a narrower version of the scarf pattern for myself.

  • OMG! this is going to take some practice. I dropped a stitch but 'll darn some thread in to make it look like the pattern.

  • it should go pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

  • This video is SO helpful. I have it bookmarked for every time I'm finishing another sock. Thank you so much!

  • Can't thank you enough for teaching me the kitchener's stitch. What a wonderful teacher you are..thanks so much.

  • are both right sides together before you begin?

  • yes! hope you did it and that it worked out.

    Happy knitting!

  • If not for you and this video, I would not have finished my first sock. Thank you so much for taking it slow, speaking clearly, and getting VERY close up. Made all the difference in the world. Superb!

  • Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but congratulations on finishing the socks! Please keep watching for more videos. I put a new one up yesterday.

  • sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, but thanks for your comment. Hope you've watched my other videos. happy knitting!

  • Hey thanks! That makes a lot more sense to me explained like that.

  • sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, but thanks for your comment. hope you've watched my other videos. Happy knitting!

  • It is not a continuous commentary - but starts and stops. Why ?

  • I stop and say continue to the end of the row and then pick it up again. This is to keep the video shorter than seeing each stitch when the stitches are the same. Sorry if it confused you. Try watching it again with this in mind.

  • Thanks for your reply re my enquiry. I really enjoy watching your knitting tips and have tried out some of the patterns which were successful.
