  • @joeknee4767--- Me thinks you are too busy hearing the sound of your whiny self entitled douchenozzle voice to hear anything else let alone brilliance . The guy is effortless at pouring his heart out and newsflash .. not a top 40 hit .. just a bit of his soul .. remember what that is ?? Stop comparing your career (or lack thereof ) and art ( see previous phrase inserted in parenthisis) to other people .. and maybe work in a puppy shelter or feed the homeless ..or maybe write a song about it :)

  • Tears... what more to say?

  • its weird how tom waits has a song called martha and it happens to involve a telephone call and rufus has one involving martha and a telephone call... rufus' song is awful though. this is really bad... he just keeps repeating himself. even if the songs have no correlation it is an interesting coincidence.

  • @joeknee4767

Try and go out a bit sunshine.... you might enjoy life.

  • @joeknee4767 dude, 44 yrs of homophobia and serious father-issues. get help. get professional help

  • what the hell is Q tv ?

  • An amazingly talented singer singing about another extrodinary singer

  • A powerfully engaging show in Auckland last night !

  • @funfinder27 i agree. it was so good.

  • Sorry, I don't understand!

  • I adore him and that he wishes to share such a very personal part of his life with us by making beautiful music.

  • j'adore

  • His soul is a very beautiful, sensitive one. I feel this performance is just incredible. There are good/great singers and then there are singers who sing, sometimes desperately, from their soul ; enter Rufus Wainwright!

  • Why is it that sadness and heartache bring out the most amazing creativity in people? I just want to hug him.... this made me cry.

  • What is it with the name Martha and phenomenal songs?!?!?!? . . . Martha My Dear, Martha by Tom Waits, Little Martha by the Alman Brothers, and now this!! What a song!

  • "Songs for Lulu" is definitely his magnum opus in my opinion, a stripped down, heartfelt (and sometimes heartwrenching) collection of wonderful songs.

  • brilliant song - but whats going on with his hair?? your gorgeous rufus, but stop running your fingers through your hair - it gets so messy!

  • This song makes me so sad. Both Martha and Zebulon have made me cry (on completely separate occasions)

  • what melody

    what beauty

  • This song is incredible. The album is definitely his best yet. Melancholy, quiet, intimately personal and absolutely beautiful.

this song and 'Zebulon' seem to sum up completely his experiences in the time leading up to his mothers death. Just perfect composition/writing. I don't know of anyone else working today who's so willing to show you a bit of their soul every time they sing. I feel like I should thank him for sharing something so sad and beautiful...

  • @filmgeek52

I need to dig more, I think there must be artists who do, because otherwise you are deceiving your own art. To be honest in your art about all you feel, there are few artists I know of, that are always dear to me, all dead, alas! (Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Michael Jackson ♡) Rufus is absolutely fantastic, fantastic! brilliant! Also, another one I recall from 'I am your man, by Cohen...Anthony!)

  • @filmgeek52 No argument, his best effort to date. Like you said, introspective and real. Great work.

  • I love Rufus from all my heart but I have to admit that this version of "Martha"..ouch... Or it was very early in the morning, or he was hang-over. Still, the piano is nicely played even if the voice is crap. Nevertheless, it's a incredibly moving song.

  • @0451455 I haven't heard the recorded version of this yet, but I have to say in every live performance that I've seen of him his voice has usually been as good as it has been here. I'm not quite sure what you mean by calling it "crap" - he never cracked, he never hit a wrong note. I thought it was quite lovely, actually.

  • @0451455 I agree with theautumnrag, what are you talking about? He sounds exactly like this on his CD. Rufus has never been a "vocalist." It's the unusual quiality of his voice, and the rawness that makes so many people fall for his music.

  • Is this about his sister?

  • @Abbytater it sure is. :) about his whole family, it seems. this album seems very close to his heart, from what I've heard so far. or at least more overtly so than his previous albums.

  • @n3llyphant Huh! Cool.

  • Wow. Much better than I expected.

  • Beautiful :)

  • I am so excited for this album to debut! Absolutely gorgeous, Rufus never falters.
