Are any of you old enough to remember the Ford Cortina 1600 GT? I owned one, and it was the King of The Road on the M4 when I used to drive from Kew to Heathrow in 1970. I used to fly down the M4 to Heathrow, climb into my BEA Trident and then fly off to Malaga or Copenhagen. Halcyon days indeed.
@dcasey77 hi, i have been trying to download a copy for ages, with no sucess, can you point me in the right direction, the reason is i`m in the pub scene for about 2 seconds, would really like to see this after all this time. thanks. william.
Have had two of these rather unique cars, the best was a 1972 3-litre with manual box & overdrive (this was in 1999). There aren't many cars of this era which will accelerate FROM 100 mph... scariest moment was when the front started floating at 120mph. You wouldn't imagine that the same company made the Regal & Robin.
Scimitars are such cool looking cars, they look dated IMO and sooo 1970s but in a good way. In the same way the original mini dosent look like it was made in recent times, never the less it looks retro and cool. I hate the reliant saber its a vile ugly box IMO, but the scimitar GTE especially the one with the allegro door handles look so sleek. I saw one in a petrol station when my mum got petrol, and i lost control of my body and shouted 'ohh cool a scimitar' and i was given weird looks lol.
Where can I get hold of this film? It doesn't look particularly good but I'd be interested in seeing how Lazenby followed up his very under-rated performance as Bond.
This was broadcast once on British TV in about 1980. You are right, I'm afraid, it was cheaply made and had a rather cheesy 1970's anti-violence message (although there was plenty of action as you see). Lazenby is killed at the end (sorry). It was directed by Cy Enfield ('Zulu'). I watched it because I was anxious to see anything more with Lazenby in it (best Bond ever IMHO). As for video/DVD availability, it has never been released to my knowledge and God knows who has the rights now.
You might want to see 'Who Saw Her Die?' an Italian film Lazenby made the following year.
Lazenby had lost an alarming amount of weight when he shot that.
It isn't a great film but it's got Adolfo Celi (Largo from Thunderball) in it. But the soundtrack was extremely quiet and I could barely hear what was being said.
Thanks. I've checked it out - it looks interesting. Sounds weird but I have a recurring dream where I'm watching a *second* Lazenby Bond film. Unfortunately that's all it is - a dream...
Thanks for the clip. I've had two Scimitars, the best of which was a 1972 (SE5a?) 3-litre, 4-speed manual with overdrive. Do miss it sometimes - although have bad memories of the front end starting to feel floaty at about 120mph...

I have the American cassette, but the British one is of higher quality (like this clip) does anyone know where I could find one?

That's a good clip to boost Lazenby's writing.

@BerlinBunker1 Funny you should mention the M4.
The final scene of Universal Soldier was shot at the M4 Junction 3 Roundabout.

@fagAshLil1234
the dated look is the best look by far in my opinion, newer cars just seem soul less, nearly all cars of the 60's and 70's look cool.

Reliant Scimitar GTE is the proper name.

@enochsneed I finally got hold of Universal Soldier about 6 months ago.
This car chase is the only action in the whole picture! Unless you count frisbee throwing as action...

What's the song played at the beginning?

if that was an Se6, it would have ended up like the jag.
290819861 4 years ago
Definitely an S-type - you can tell by the shape of the rear wheelarches.
Can't believe a Jag was wider than an SE5 though.

Lovely.
Jaguar S-Type (Not a mark 2, see the sidelights taken from top of wings etc)
Awesome chase. POOR S TYPE !
