@theUnlimited1 The millions of fans he has will probably disagree with you. How many fans do you have again? Oh, that's right i've never heard of you. Neither has anybody else.
@NexwellVEVO Yeah, I must be "hating" because he's stupid enough to smoke cigarettes around $50,000 of modular equipment. Gear that gets ruined by smoke, you get kicked out of studios for smoking (oh wait, you're not supposed to smoke in ANY studio because smoke ruins the gear), the kind of gear that ANY professional tells you not to smoke by. He's basically doing something very BAD, but you're too much of a bandwagon riding fanboy to acknowledge that.
@ChindlerOntheRoof It does, so you've obviously never been in a studio or have ever owned any gear...but no, feel free to keep arguing something you know nothing about just because you're so enamored by a musician that you feel he can do nothing wrong.
@TheHevquip I have more than enough electronics experience to know that you're a fucking moron. @Cheboboh he didn't build shit in this video. that is a bought synth he might have picked out off of a list. and nothing is hooked up, even if w.e he says... to get these modules to do something cool, they need to be hooked up... 1 thing on there is like 1 section of a vst... where a vst has 10 sections...
@rhoggard76 Im sorry but i have my own synthesizers wich i love to work with daily, and i know them outside like the back of my hand. After a while you know where your oscillator is because that's the place where your sound starts in a synth.
This just seems like a impossible problem to have as a 'professional'.
i dunno, maybe he is just sleepy or something. Still like the guy, I just could not grasp that situation happening to you as a music producer 3 months ago lol.
@Cheboboh happening to him, not me. i hand make my instruments from the blank pcb. deadmau5 is a scatterbrain no talent. give me $100,000 US and i can have a 100,000X better "Live show" with lights and custom stage also.

@theloopmasta you fail again. I didn't say you couldnt. The reason why Deadmau5 gets his own "specific" sounds in different songs that are way different to everyone else is probably because he spends hours working with these modular's. Lol I bet your a kid that use's FL studio and rips off everyone else.
@liquidcast He really doesnt, he could do it all in software...he doesn't because he likes hardware thats about it. There are plenty of modular vsts out there not that most of the sounds he makes need a modular...hell most of it is just standard subtractive/FM sounds alot of his signature sounds actually come from vsts...strobe for example. Yes the guy you were retorting was obviously an idiot, but your retort wasn't sensible.
@sacredgeometry Yes you can do alot with software. You could make the majority of tracks with vst's and routing with software for instance reason. But you definitely don't know what you are talking about when you suggest that he does'nt use modulars ins his songs and for using strobe as an example. The purpose of it is to create and recreate specific samples and sounds that you can use within your song. he uses analog and modulation for alot of his music.
@liquidcast Strobe is named after a vst the main riff was created in :P its also a vst hes admitted to using in every song. Care to show me an example where modular synthesis was necessary? I didnt say he didnt use modular synths, I said i havent heard one example where he couldnt recreate the sound on a non modular subtractive synth.
@sacredgeometry He uses analog most of the time for his music. I garuntee you he uses modulation and analog for the majority of his music. Ive seen him use modulars and analog synths from watching him produce for hours on livestream etc and I bet you havn't even seen his live gear he's been using. He carries around a few modulation racks and has them in his booth. Your response is just as retort for not researching before replying.
@liquidcast haha I have seen his ustream, i know he has moog voyagers, (if he still has his racked voyager and little phatty) he has a few modular racks including a doepfer rack, he shows a pro08 in older videos as well as numerous others .... he has a little 303 remake as well (but not an x0xb0x) I know he uses analogue as well as software and VA ie nord lead 3 and virusTI polar... You might need to learn to read :P
@sacredgeometry I do know how to read and you have just proven my point by acknowledging that he uses alot of analog/modulation and man I wish I had half of the gear he uses. But the fact is, Arguing with someone else over the internet on a video that is not about us is pointless annnnnnnd I never in my whole life want to get his monthly powerbill.
@liquidcast "He really doesnt, he could do it all in software...he doesn't because he likes hardware thats about it. I didn't say he doesn't know shit. I said he clearly doesn't understand the synth he's using yet. I said it was ballsy of him to make this video before getting comfortable with the equipment.

He doesn't "care about his fans" as someone stated here because he's not teaching anything, he's just showing off his recently-bought gear and he's got a rockstar attitude, i second JamesPriceSucks, he's a douchebag.
@Pawshter it does give surprisingly good sound for something that looks like it comes with a happy meal, so it would make sense if it was expensive (plus it would be a niche market for sure).
I'd like to clarify that this isn't a fail because he doesn't know his gear. Of course we all have to take time to get to know new gear. This is a fail because he thinks it's worth broadcasting.
So do all these modular systems work in conjunction with each other like how pedals in a guitar rig do? Would it be Synth controller > mod systems > another mod > another mod (and so on) > speaker?
@ryushenshi Yes, but it can get much more complex than that. Mods can be patched into other mods and then back to the osc (sound source). So, imagine you've got a wah pedal (filter) and you can plug an osc (LFO) into it (hell, you can even do audio rate modulation for extra craziness) to modulate the sweep of the filter. I recommend trying Karma FX Modular. There's a demo. It's a cheap way to get into this.
He's learning, everyone starts from a point. It would be cool if you wouldn't curse so much tho :). Still love what you do, and to all you people that hate on deadmau5 go eff yourself. This guy makes some awesome music in my opinion
I'm not a fan of his work, but come on guys. He admits he doesn't know what he's doing, and he obviously got all this stuff at once, and is just getting into the world of modular. You can't blame someone for wanting to get into it :D
He's just able to afford everything at once, instead of upgrading over the course of years to know it inside out.
Heck, these videos alone are a huge fan service. That's pretty respectable for an artist to share their world.
@Jordo54321 Dude, he's been building this over the last couple of yrs. Aka not some randome overnight splurgin.... if u listen to his soundcloud ull find a track using his modular system, and its really awesome sounding... ah well, fuckit take 5 minutes of ur life and check him out, he's clearly ah tech guy! Knows what he's doing
@ke7z If you couldn't tell, I was defending him. I don't follow him enough to know that he's been building this over years as he's not an artist I keep tabs on. I just saw this vid on a forum with people bashing him, and giving my take on it.
@Jordo54321 i love the 80's to man, cheesy solos and jordan rudess, that's my cup of tea! uck yeah let's be intellectual morons and listen to stockhausen. get a grip.
@ke7z However, I do find it odd that he's having trouble finding his oscillators/filters etc if he's had this over the course of a few years. You think that'd be second nature by now.
The only thing is, he didn't buy everything at once. He doesn't have mad amounts of cash like people think he does.
And he definitely knows what he's doing if you listen to what he's saying, or at least watch. People can make mistakes while talking. I do it all the time. But in reality, there is no "wrong" with sound sculpting. Just experiments. Anyone who is trying to be dick about the videos are 12, lonely, and probably dont know anything about modular synths to begin with ;)

@Jordo54321 He obviously does know quite a few things. THere is no wonder he doesnt know what EVERYTHING does, youd need a fucking rocket engineering degree for that. Thats the biggest damn modular synth ive seen
@Jordo54321 spotanuity is the one thing that has attracted me to making music, by literally mongin your brain trying to build tunes and rifts, just fck about a bring some sound to life!!! wouldnt you like to just whack some crazy sounds together, have a blast, smoke some dope and wake up the next morning with a million pound/dollar track??!! i know i would!!
i wish that's how it worked! but i think the whole "stoned inspiration" rarely works, which really sucks. it certainly never seems to work for me. i find it helps to conjure up a feel/mood/mental image that you want to make a "soundtrack" to. take some ritalin, sit down at the synth/daw of choice and keep honing in to that goal "soundtrack" for the feel/mental image you want to convey.
All u trainspotters, freaks wish u cud be as big as dis kid ere but u neva will. keep on makin fart sounds wit ur yamaha poly quadrons and pretendin ur a "producer" but u still dont know how 2 make ppl move on da dancefloor wich is what really counts deez days.

seems to me like he knows, or is learning his stuff pretty well? why the hate?
EuKnxionCulturCa 1 year ago
He doesn't "care about his fans" as someone stated here because he's not teaching anything, he's just showing off his recently-bought gear and he's got a rockstar attitude, i second JamesPriceSucks, he's a douchebag.

What is that little red mouse for? Is it the speaker? Nooo... or is it? Pardon me, I dont get it.
omerjacobus 1 year ago 7
@omerjacobus yes it is a speaker =D. you can buy one on his website for a rediculous amount of money
Pawshter 1 year ago 20
@Pawshter Thank you :)
Well, after watching it again I recognized he said it some times... seems my mind was too far away, imaginating waveforms ;))
omerjacobus 1 year ago
@Pawshter I've seen ones for 20 bucks. google search it
scratchnsurf 1 year ago
@Pawshter Please send me a link to buy this speaker...i really need it
djo909 1 year ago
@Pawshter it does give surprisingly good sound for something that looks like it comes with a happy meal, so it would make sense if it was expensive (plus it would be a niche market for sure).
ArcaneInquisitor 1 year ago
@omerjacobus yeah...I bought it. It's pretty pricey for a little speaker but I love Deadmau5 so it made me happy

I'd like to clarify that this isn't a fail because he doesn't know his gear. Of course we all have to take time to get to know new gear. This is a fail because he thinks it's worth broadcasting.

So do all these modular systems work in conjunction with each other like how pedals in a guitar rig do? Would it be Synth controller > mod systems > another mod > another mod (and so on) > speaker?
ryushenshi 1 year ago

Fuckin modular synths, how do they work? I dont wanna talk to no synthesist. Motherfuckers always tellin lies and gettin me pissed.

@hXcKitteh i agree..

My 2cents

@Jordo54321 Dude, he's been building this over the last couple of yrs. Aka not some randome overnight splurgin.... if u listen to his soundcloud ull find a track using his modular system, and its really awesome sounding... ah well, fuckit take 5 minutes of ur life and check him out, he's clearly ah tech guy! Knows what he's doing
ke7z 1 year ago
@ke7z If you couldn't tell, I was defending him. I don't follow him enough to know that he's been building this over years as he's not an artist I keep tabs on. I just saw this vid on a forum with people bashing him, and giving my take on it.
Jordo54321 1 year ago
@Jordo54321 i love the 80's to man, cheesy solos and jordan rudess, that's my cup of tea! uck yeah let's be intellectual morons and listen to stockhausen. get a grip.
lucadepu 1 year ago
@ke7z However, I do find it odd that he's having trouble finding his oscillators/filters etc if he's had this over the course of a few years. You think that'd be second nature by now.
Jordo54321 1 year ago
@Jordo54321 I'm not a fan of his music either and seeing this videos gave me a lot of respect for the guy.
drtydave13 1 year ago
@Jordo54321 he has more modular systems: a buchla 200e system, buchla 250e, and another doepfer
rastamusic227 1 year ago
@Jordo54321

Jannto 1 year ago
@Jannto you need to checkout more modular synths if thats the biggest you've ever seen google "buchla 200e synthtopia"
joeblack949 3 months ago
@Jordo54321 spotanuity is the one thing that has attracted me to making music, by literally mongin your brain trying to build tunes and rifts, just fck about a bring some sound to life!!! wouldnt you like to just whack some crazy sounds together, have a blast, smoke some dope and wake up the next morning with a million pound/dollar track??!! i know i would!!
LaminaDieWills 11 months ago
@LaminaDieWills
i wish that's how it worked! but i think the whole "stoned inspiration" rarely works, which really sucks. it certainly never seems to work for me. i find it helps to conjure up a feel/mood/mental image that you want to make a "soundtrack" to. take some ritalin, sit down at the synth/daw of choice and keep honing in to that goal "soundtrack" for the feel/mental image you want to convey.
