I found this game to be overall entertaining enough (but I only payed 40 bucks for the ps3 version and not 60, so...). It was just way to short with just a little character development and some repetetive fighting. The graphics on the over hand (at least on a HD-screen) are nothing breathtaking, but beautiful as well as the sound-design. Finding tons of loot is not always a great concept, but it's OK and for a few brucks this game is really worth playing, especially in local Co-Op witha buddy!
this was my first ds game apart from the one i played on my psp and i liked this one, i think its a good dungeon crawler with a nice castlevania FEEL to it, i mean in th first couple of dungeon's you have ghosts, skeletons spiders, keys, endboss. it just feels awesome
the reason a lot of people hate this game is because we played the old dungeon siege games, which were top notch games with a lot of cool stuff and it allowed you to acctually create your own character and use what ever abilities you wanted, let you acctually control your companions and get loot, not too much like in this game, but enough to be tons, it wasnt as easy as this game were you could carry everything indefinitly, but you had to manage your inventory based on item size

I think you do not lift forward the strong parts in this game. THE STORY! It is stronger then Dragon Age II and your options do matter compared to Dragon Age II where your choices is worth nothing.
The game is also to me a spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance I and II. Which it does with grandious output. This game is underrated and good if you want a fun hack n slash with a friend. You cannot compare to Diablo 3 either, not the same sort of hack n slash.

I loved this game.They definitely dropped the ball with the multiplayer and PC controls, but if you're playing solo and use a 360 controller on your PC or just play it on the 360/PS3 then it's a great game with a great story.

@Jeroenske yep i play it once every few months, and if you are new dont forget to continue the game after you finish the first the game in one difficulty. For example completing the game in easy will lead you to do continue from the start on next level. continuing the game on next difficulty will unlock a few new bosses with a lot more challenge and new loot than just buffed up repeat bosses from prev difficulty.
Good review. Only things id disagree on are the controls and graphics. I thought both were pretty good although i played using an xbox controller on PC so I totally agree that this was built for consoles. Repetative gameplay got me down a bit as well
$50 to play 12 hours... This is definition of almost every game. I've recently put this #2 on my list of all time things I don't understand in life. How can people go out and spend $50+ on 10-20 hours of gameplay? If a game won't get me AT LEAST 100 hours of gameplay, I don't even consider buying it. Ya, console fags who can actually rent a game for very cheap (GameFly or Blockbuster's game pass) or free (I work at a library with tons of games, and my girlfriend works at Blockbuster), and then move on to the next game, not having to worry if they should get the game or not.
No, clearly having to make a decision with your hard earned money, then beating it in 10-20 hours, or realizing it sucks, and then moving on to the next $50+ decision, yes, that's way freakin better.
With that said, Diablo 2 was the shit in its heyday, Diablo 3 is #1 on my list of future games, and World Of Warcraft is so great that I had to quit. And I'm typing this from a $1600 gaming laptop I bought JUST for Diablo 3, so I'm no console fanboy. Just saying that these "console fags" you speak of, they don't have to pay for their games. To me, PC is more for games that you won't just beat, but will play religiously for months/years, like MMORPGs and such.
what would be epic, is that a new game of dungeon siege revealed what was behind that destroyed bridge at the beginning, where that man tells you to take the road through the crypts...i was curious to a mad-point when i was younger - i really wanted to see what was behind that bridge!!!

But I don't just like playing as the gun girl, I like playin as the old mage fighter guy too, also add anything and everything that has doom for slow attacks you have, he one shots the FUCK outta almost anything, and have some another weapons with vampire to heal too, gameplay wise its amazing tho, and the ally AI isn't stupid which is really rare lol
So I completed the game a few days ago and I had quite a lot of fun. Its nothing like DS2 though so dont get this game if you want something like that. You only get one companion and the combat in general is much different. But I still had my fun. The story is meh, the decision are meh too and the characters are pretty stereotypical and boring. But I liked the gameplay and enjoyed shooting the crap out of everything that moved. Oh and Katarinas Empowered full auto spell is overpowered as hell.

Cool, then you remember when we were supposed to get a proper sequel to secret of mana, but instead got secret of evermore. *Shiver* plus, we never saw a QUARTER of what was released in Nippon-only! RPGs, were a scarce commodity and @ $80-100 to boot! (Phantasy Star 4 was $100!) I put in EXACTLY 89 hours into FF3/6 and purchased it for ..$89.00 I-Shit-You-Not! But yeah, were it not for sony, I would've stopped gaming altogether! 1-2 RPGs every 6 months vs 6 RPGs with sony @ $50!
It fully irritates me to see these once, great Developers, now Publishers turn into full-on sellouts for the masses, Obsidian/Bioware's (Bio-Ware has really earned that title!) fall from excellence leaves a much hated bitter taste in my mouth!

Zeigeist, great review as always. The great thing is that you always include artistic footage that other reviewers often forego, to their disadvantage. Similarly, you have good pacing with looking at both the lore of the game as well as the gameplay. It's great to see another review from you again!
The multiplayer element was what drew me in to keep an eye on this title. I'm sad that it seems like they rather crippled the multiplayer gameplay and camera angles. Won't be on my "top list" anytime soon.
i played dungeon siege and dungeon siege 2 multiple times, and I loved it. But this game is ruined by greedy developers concetrating on the consoles. Unfortunetly the goal is to make more money for everyone. I consider this to be a second game that has been ruined by a console for me. First being Dragon Age 2.
I kind of disagree with you on this one, Zeit. However, I have played the previous two games and all of their expansions, so that's probably part of it. (And I'm playing the game on my 360.. so, yeah.) Still, the game has some flaws, but it is still fun to play and an enjoyable adventure. (It isn't too bad split-screen either, if you play from the way start like I did. And final note, Lucas is voiced by one of my favorite VA's: Crispin Freeman. And he's who I played as. xD)
I completely agree with everything you said, however I think its pretty unfair to compare anything of late to The Witcher 2. Its just miles ahead of the rest.

I agree with you on pretty much everything you said. There was one thing, though, that I thought was a really nice touch for computers with lit keyboards. I use an m15x, and my keyboard lighting changed to reflect how much HP I had. It's a gimmick and doesn't really affect gameplay, but I did think it was cool.

you cant control the AI in your party they attack blindly

This made me, not consider the game at all, and wait for Diablo 3. Thx for the save of my money, i HATE console ported games (console ports). Didnt know this was one, before i watched the review. PC gaming 4tw (screw console fags ;-) ).

Ya, console fags who can actually rent a game for very cheap (GameFly or Blockbuster's game pass) or free (I work at a library with tons of games, and my girlfriend works at Blockbuster), and then move on to the next game, not having to worry if they should get the game or not.
No, clearly having to make a decision with your hard earned money, then beating it in 10-20 hours, or realizing it sucks, and then moving on to the next $50+ decision, yes, that's way freakin better.

With that said, Diablo 2 was the shit in its heyday, Diablo 3 is #1 on my list of future games, and World Of Warcraft is so great that I had to quit. And I'm typing this from a $1600 gaming laptop I bought JUST for Diablo 3, so I'm no console fanboy. Just saying that these "console fags" you speak of, they don't have to pay for their games. To me, PC is more for games that you won't just beat, but will play religiously for months/years, like MMORPGs and such.

But I don't just like playing as the gun girl, I like playin as the old mage fighter guy too, also add anything and everything that has doom for slow attacks you have, he one shots the FUCK outta almost anything, and have some another weapons with vampire to heal too, gameplay wise its amazing tho, and the ally AI isn't stupid which is really rare lol

So I completed the game a few days ago and I had quite a lot of fun. Its nothing like DS2 though so dont get this game if you want something like that. You only get one companion and the combat in general is much different. But I still had my fun. The story is meh, the decision are meh too and the characters are pretty stereotypical and boring. But I liked the gameplay and enjoyed shooting the crap out of everything that moved. Oh and Katarinas Empowered full auto spell is overpowered as hell.

My review for DS3 ...... Having played both DS1&2 this game is a complete and utter abortion and i am pissed i bought it. If your a fan of DS1&2 do yourself a big favour and dont waste your money on this shitty game because if you do you will be majorly dissapointed.
And if i ever met anyone that says they work for Obsidian or Square Enix im going to punch them in the head for fucking up what was a great PC format.

Cool, then you remember when we were supposed to get a proper sequel to secret of mana, but instead got secret of evermore. *Shiver* plus, we never saw a QUARTER of what was released in Nippon-only! RPGs, were a scarce commodity and @ $80-100 to boot! (Phantasy Star 4 was $100!) I put in EXACTLY 89 hours into FF3/6 and purchased it for ..$89.00 I-Shit-You-Not! But yeah, were it not for sony, I would've stopped gaming altogether! 1-2 RPGs every 6 months vs 6 RPGs with sony @ $50!

It fully irritates me to see these once, great Developers, now Publishers turn into full-on sellouts for the masses, Obsidian/Bioware's (Bio-Ware has really earned that title!) fall from excellence leaves a much hated bitter taste in my mouth!
I feel the same way with EA, so yeah, I can understand your contempt for overzealous publishers. But any specific reason? I'd like to get informed against which publisher I should boycott.

i played dungeon siege and dungeon siege 2 multiple times, and I loved it. But this game is ruined by greedy developers concetrating on the consoles. Unfortunetly the goal is to make more money for everyone. I consider this to be a second game that has been ruined by a console for me. First being Dragon Age 2.

I kind of disagree with you on this one, Zeit. However, I have played the previous two games and all of their expansions, so that's probably part of it. (And I'm playing the game on my 360.. so, yeah.) Still, the game has some flaws, but it is still fun to play and an enjoyable adventure. (It isn't too bad split-screen either, if you play from the way start like I did. And final note, Lucas is voiced by one of my favorite VA's: Crispin Freeman. And he's who I played as. xD)

By the way, it's awesome seeing a review for this game that isn't panned just because it's made by Obsidian. I've seen way to many reviews where the reviewer states, once again Obsidian dissapoints. Why do so many people love to hate on Obsidian?! I love most of their games. One that gets my blood boiling when I hear people bashing it is Alpha Protocol. That game did so many things right and had amazing replayability and a cool premise

I agree with you on pretty much everything you said. There was one thing, though, that I thought was a really nice touch for computers with lit keyboards. I use an m15x, and my keyboard lighting changed to reflect how much HP I had. It's a gimmick and doesn't really affect gameplay, but I did think it was cool.

Hey Daniel, would you ever review an MMO? I love Champions Online in particular, it's a F2P which used to be a P2P. It's quite limited while free, but at only 15 dolars a month you unlock an insane quantity of resources. Please tell me if you could consider reviewing that kind of genre.
