Not sure if I buy it, that doesn't sound like a recording from the period, or for that matter Hendrixs'. It has a few "trademark" licks, but that's about it. Listen to "Red House" for his blues style.
music is music. sound is sound. both will always exist. true musicians see no point in listing who the fucks better. just listen and learn and maybe the blues will one day flow through your own fingers and you'll see what i mean. music is expression not competition.
@PopShuvIt247 Without going to Wikipedia... Well, Justin Beiber perhaps? Seriously, I hate JB referenses but I thought it was a bit funny. Sorry, bad joke.
Where did that imagination come from (rhetorical question)? This is the kind of performance that makes us think that Hendrix belongs in the same general area as Bird and Pres. So much more than a pop star!!!!! Thank you for posting this wonderful performance!
I know its sacrilage to say so but bits of this sound horrible. Its obviously been released after his death and I think he would have cringed if he had known that it got out! Its just a loose jam where he is experimenting with a very weedy recording of his guitar.
Just because hes acknowledged as the greatest ever guitarist it doesnt mean everything he did was great. OK, open fire!
This is Jimi. I have it on a CD somewhere. I'm not going to dig it out to prove anything because those of us how know Jimi know it is his playing and his voice.
I played with Buddy Guy in Chicago. I was on tour with Albert King and Buddy and Junior Wells when they performed with us thru out Europe. I am on the "In Session Album" with Stevie Ray Vaughn. I have never heard Buddy play anything near this. Buddy is a great guitarist but never played octaves like the ones at 4:40. Jimi did this song in honor of Albert King. Albert released it in '67.
It MUST be Jimi, it's not good enough for Rory Gallagher or Paul Kossoff, and it's way better than all the rest out there! These aren't notes being played, it's the sound of a soul that you can hear. The only three people on the Earth that the electric guitar was invented for have died, so the rest can go burn theirs, yup, including you! :-)
@SACKONUTS2112 .....It is Jimi! Why would someone give a great performance like this and get zero credit for it? I mean if someone could play as good as Jimi, wouldn't they want to make a name for themselves and make some money?
@SuperWigglyWorm ....I love Buddy Guy! Buddy Guy is still alive. I think he would have said something already if one of his performances was on a successful Jimi Hendrix cd.
Dont know for sure if that's Jimi... BUT... its got his phrasing, his transitions, his use of the effects available then (wah pedal, guitar switches, and some serious Marshalls), his slightly off-key notes that get bent into something out of this world, and ok so basically there wasn't ANYBODY else playing like this at that time. Check out 2:07-4:00, that is sooo Jimi. Be completely shocked if it wasn't.
Just hear a little of the 69-70' years with the Gipsy band, it's Jimi of course... One who doesn't think it's Jimi doesn't know Jimi's playing... (sorry my poor english)
Alright if google isn't good enough for you dumbasses who don't belive it, go buy the CDs like any real Hendrix fan would. The internet is great for free music but if you love an artist. BUY THE CD, not only do you support them but you will be correct when trying to argue music on the internet.
Who cares if it's Jimi or not? Blues is blues. If you like it, you just sit back and enjoy it. I saw a retired sheriff's deputy (white country boy) get up with our band at a wedding one time and sang and played stormy Monday on our singer's guitar (a real piece of crap!). It was amazing. I think it may still be the best blues performance I've ever witnessed! But, Jimi is still the best blues player ever.

its funny that people would even think a situation like this would be plausible. In all logic the theory suggested is ridiculous. Hendrix was a very good guitarist who liked to do his own thing, his own style. In what logic would he need to have someone play for him, while he takes the credit for playing?
Saw Jimi live in 1968 and again in 69, seen Randy Hansen too-and he is very good impersonator, but he is in no way an original artist. So you little guys (I am sure you are all guys, women wouldn't bother) are just silly. It is either Jimi or it is a big plot where Randy Hansen imitates everything original that Hendrix created on his own. So in the end, you are hearing Hendrix, either way. Long live the music of Jimi Hendrix. By the way, in August 1968, Jimi was absolutely mind-blowing live.

Another example how you couldn't keep the great H in the "blues" box. Always experimenting and constantly looking for new sounds and music. On electric lady land, the live version of the two voodo child's on the album: in the live version Hendrix gives the keyboardist free reign at one point. the guy goes off into this sorta half scottish bagpipes/Indian raga, and Hendrix just slips in perfectly with no blues sound. If H lived, he'd be composing symphonies. blues are great, H greater.

LOL, I Cannot Tell You If Hendrix Played This,However My Grandffather Was an Advertising Executive In the 50s,60s,70sNewyork and Worked For Various Company's Such as Columbia Pictures Even Earler Than That,He was Not into the Music Scene Like I Am But He Knew Them All!Owned Parrish Press in NYC,etc, anyways I never Got a Chance To meet Him But i Found a List in his old Suitcase in My Attic with a List Of Some material,Songs, autographs,Pics,It also Included old albums with this Song,Its real!
Pretty clueless here of anyone to refer to any "manager" of Jimi's, when it was one such manager who killed him for 2 mill of insurance money (and shortly after died in a car crash, making it all a waste of time and effort, anyway). What you are probably trying to grasp at is Jimi's original producer Eddie Kramer, and yes, he is authorized by the Hendrix estate, and yes, this is the real Jimi playing on this recording.
Who ever this is, he's a great guitar player. Jimmies guitar is spiritual, it speaks to your soul, this guy is just a good guitar player. Jimmy page speaks to your soul, the guy from deep purple, the same thing, it's like they made that pack.
I played Jimi on broadway in 1978 when I was kid, I know Jimi very well and yes this is Jimi. And yes Randy Hanson is the best Jimi tribute guy alive "God Bless him.
What can truly be said that hasn't already been said by so many others ? I do not idolize nor do I envy him or his gift. I have my own gift as all do. I can only say that this is one of the very few who have this gift of speaking in tounges through the guitar. Thank You Lord for allowing it to enter my ears. I am truly humbled. Amen
A bootleg without a visual is just a bootleg.Jimi is the greatest ever, how can you guys accept a bootleg without a visual on anyone, let alone Jimi. There is supposed to be a whole catalog of unreleased Hendrix. When I want a Hendrix fix,I listen to the first 3 and the live concerts. When I want to see the greatest Hendrix clone in person,I see Randy Hansen, nobody plays Jimi better.
@1512735 Where is your proof that this track isn't Jimi himself playing? This track comes from the 'Blues' album that his estate authorize themselves. Why would his estate take a chance on releasing something and claiming that it's Jimi only to have people find out it isn't? You know what I think you're doing? I think you're trying to cause a stir for the purpose of selling this Randy Hansen person? You want tell people about Randy Henson by claiming something that isn't true.
@twodux77 ...So are you then suggesting that the Hendrix family hires Randy Hansen to play, then they reocrd him and release cd's under the name of Jimi Hendrix? Is this what you are claiming to me?
@SCWoodbury2009 Not at all. I am telling you that Randy is the only JImi Hendrix tribute artist who has the blessing of the Hendrix family. Randy is all over youtube. You ought to check him out. Personally I think he's better live that Jimi was. I know that's going to sound crazy, but every live performance I've seen of Jimi were nowhere near his studio stuff. Jimi was great innovating and in the studio. Randy is great live.
Search Randy Hansen, Manic Depression on Youtube and go to about the 2;00 mark and check out the lead. Or, I Don't Live Today" performed by Randy Hansen & Buddy Miles
@twodux77 ....I guess you never listened to Jimi playing at Woodstock. Try listening to "Woodstock Improvisation" and "Villanova Junction". Then again, you'll probably listen to it and claim that's not really Jimi playing at Woodstock, because behind the stage was this white guy name Randy Hansen who was actually playing the guitar. Jimi Hendrix was one of a kind. Your Randy guy is just an imitator.
I'm glad you guys love Jimi as I do,but the fact is Al hendrix,Jimi's father didn't get the rights back till"95".He has passed and now Leon and Janie are at each other.Alan Douglas controlled the rights after Jimi passed and got rich on every post Jimi's album afterwards.I was born in 1953,I remember this shit going down and I remember Jimi's sound. Most musicians from my day don't accept bootlegs or any music without a visual. The Hendrix family is now about money.Unfinished music after death"No"
I'm sorry but this is NOT JIMI,this is that music supposely unfinished in the studio. We know his old manager did this for financial gain. The hendrix family owns all the rights to all of Jimi's music and this song is not in their catalog.
@1512735 This is too Jimi. It's from the 'Blues' album that his family later authorized and re-released. If it wasn't Jimi, why would his family re-release it and claim that it is? Besides, who else plays like this?
@1512735 Sorry, but you are SO WRONG... this is clearly Hendrix... Listen to it, it's Hendrix. This "manager" thing you talk about is BS. it was actually some of the acts he toured with before he got big that released material suposedly "with Hendrix" that didn't have him on it (lonnie youngblood)... THIS is Hendrix.
It was 1971, I was 5 years old when I heard JIMI play. From that point on I've been guided by the force that JIMI is. Fly on brother JIMI on through the sky.
Don't start me off.... oh you've done it now, I can recomend JMH tracks to you ALL day. Jimi.... if there's any way you can read this flying through the ether.... I love you mate.
I'm still waiting for someone to MOVE me the way Jimi did. Some people sometimes manage it for a track or 2, some even for an album, but who else are you gonna listen to outtakes from and wonder at the Majesty of the genius....huh? go on...who? Get a listen to 'Nine to the Universe. Track 1-5... mesmerising...
i love that everyone gangs up on the people who push dislike just to piss people off. the people who don't listen to our music don't even know what blues is so they cant hate what they dont know
If this ain't Hendrix, then whoever it is ought to get out here, show himself and make a million pal...

1512735 2 months ago
@1512735 Where is your proof that this track isn't Jimi himself playing? This track comes from the 'Blues' album that his estate authorize themselves. Why would his estate take a chance on releasing something and claiming that it's Jimi only to have people find out it isn't? You know what I think you're doing? I think you're trying to cause a stir for the purpose of selling this Randy Hansen person? You want tell people about Randy Henson by claiming something that isn't true.
SCWoodbury2009 2 months ago 6
@SCWoodbury2009
I believe this is Jimi. But FYI this Randy Hansen person as you call him is also blessed by the Hendrix family. Google him and check out his website
twodux77 1 month ago
@twodux77 ...So are you then suggesting that the Hendrix family hires Randy Hansen to play, then they reocrd him and release cd's under the name of Jimi Hendrix? Is this what you are claiming to me?
SCWoodbury2009 1 month ago
@SCWoodbury2009 Not at all. I am telling you that Randy is the only JImi Hendrix tribute artist who has the blessing of the Hendrix family. Randy is all over youtube. You ought to check him out. Personally I think he's better live that Jimi was. I know that's going to sound crazy, but every live performance I've seen of Jimi were nowhere near his studio stuff. Jimi was great innovating and in the studio. Randy is great live.
twodux77 1 month ago
@twodux77
Search Randy Hansen, Manic Depression on Youtube and go to about the 2;00 mark and check out the lead. Or, I Don't Live Today" performed by Randy Hansen & Buddy Miles
twodux77 1 month ago
@twodux77 ....I guess you never listened to Jimi playing at Woodstock. Try listening to "Woodstock Improvisation" and "Villanova Junction". Then again, you'll probably listen to it and claim that's not really Jimi playing at Woodstock, because behind the stage was this white guy name Randy Hansen who was actually playing the guitar. Jimi Hendrix was one of a kind. Your Randy guy is just an imitator.

Peace brother. I have my own visual in my head and Wow, anyway I love the music !!!
oldschool70s 2 months ago
I'm glad you guys love Jimi as I do,but the fact is Al hendrix,Jimi's father didn't get the rights back till"95".He has passed and now Leon and Janie are at each other.Alan Douglas controlled the rights after Jimi passed and got rich on every post Jimi's album afterwards.I was born in 1953,I remember this shit going down and I remember Jimi's sound. Most musicians from my day don't accept bootlegs or any music without a visual. The Hendrix family is now about money.Unfinished music after death"No"
1512735 2 months ago
thanks to Paul Allen they own all the rights. this is Jimi cuz it's from a bootleg. learn your self
13badmofo 2 months ago
I'm sorry but this is NOT JIMI,this is that music supposely unfinished in the studio. We know his old manager did this for financial gain. The hendrix family owns all the rights to all of Jimi's music and this song is not in their catalog.
1512735 2 months ago
@1512735 This is too Jimi. It's from the 'Blues' album that his family later authorized and re-released. If it wasn't Jimi, why would his family re-release it and claim that it is? Besides, who else plays like this?

@1512735 Sorry, but you are SO WRONG... this is clearly Hendrix... Listen to it, it's Hendrix. This "manager" thing you talk about is BS. it was actually some of the acts he toured with before he got big that released material suposedly "with Hendrix" that didn't have him on it (lonnie youngblood)... THIS is Hendrix.

Only a fool would hear this and suggest he was not a blues Guitarist... Listen to that juicy craft very carefully..

That's a bit naieve, isn't it? The original artist is not even mentioned: if the poster wanted thumbs up, he'd have paid tribute to the songwriter.
