  • Best video on youtube

  • if he held his arch for a split second longer that could have been a 243cm jump maybe. amazing jumper, one fo the greatest all time

  • he jumped form like 2.5m from the mat and landed around 2m into the mat. so he travelled 2.40m high and and roughly 4.5m long. WTF

  • @HUGOVANTA I used to think that, because Holm was so much shorter than the other elite jumpers (only 181cm!), he had to travel very far along the bar.

But then I watched video of Franklin Jacobs on Y*uT*be, who also jumped 59cm over his head, and Jacobs took off much closer to the bar.

  • He didn't know it was impossible... so he did it !

  • White men can't what?

  • He jumps so far out, that he probaly broke the long-jump record too. lol

  • His mannerisms before each jump made him memorable :) Along with jumps like this one ;D

  • Elegant!

  • he flies :O

  • He jumps so far out

  • i jump that backwards

  • i jump that every day

  • Impossible is possible

  • Holy McJesus

  • 7 feet 10.5 inches

  • damn he jumps like 5 feet away from the bar

  • i read on wikipedia Stefan Holm is only 1.81m tall ( 5ft.11) and he won the Olympic Gold Medal in Athens 2004 !!! best ever...

  • And he could have landed it!

  • 0:07= Flying!

  • I think it's funny how some people on here are criticizing his form..........when he's the one jumping 2.4m

  • Holy Fuck perfect form

  • MUTANT !

  • like a salmon...

  • i would wear a skin-tight pants to avoid swiping the crossbar

  • i wish someone would tell him to jump straight up next to a 10' basketball rim. i think he could hit his chest on the rim

  • Best high jumper that ever lived. He is like 5'10. Sotomayor is 6'4. Do that math. Holm would have the world record

  • @blkhauck lol. That makes little sense though.

  • @ohedd how? Sotomayor has 6 inches on Holm. Taller people normally do better in High Jump. If they all were the same height it would be a different story.

  • @blkhauck If you are shorter you have a higher power to weight ratio, can more easily make rapid movements and a more favorable leverage to prevent injuries and stuff.

  • woww his my idol

  • how does he throw his body away so high!!!??

  • he's so explosive the UN flagged him as a terrorist...

  • how is it possible for someone's legs to generate so much force in that short of a time? he's so explosive he cant pass security in airports...=/

  • god, he's like 6 feet away when he starts to jump

  • Its an amazing jump. Not just the 2.40, but the distance her sets off from??

Holy shit must be at least 2m before the bar. Maybe the angle is cheating.

  • buff amazing! I can jump 1,53 and when I jump it I'm exctatic, what does he feel? WOW!

  • gives me chills

  • This is crazy, Stefan Holm has a measured 50 inches + vertical

  • haha sverige äger er era små engelskmän! muahahaha

  • if he would jump closer to the bar he could go so much higher

  • @42willard he came to maxheight? over the bar

  • @GSM7A he is a great high jumper but if he had more lean and would jump closer to the bar he could get higher.

  • Sweden want him back

  • mother fucker can jump yao ming lol!

  • look how far out he is when he jumps to

  • JAG FATTAR INTE ! _ ? !? ?! ?! ?

  • I'd say the best athletes are those people who actually spend time training instead of arguing about stupid things on youtube. Let the performances speak for themselves. When you see an awesome performance, is the first thing you think "That dude's black!" Or "Damn, awesome for an Asian?" If you think this way, damn man, get your head examined. Look at something besides race for a change.

  • That's crazy.

  • that form is filthy he has such a great kick! that's insane

  • look how far he takes off from. fuckin aye.

  • Wow. He was even over 9000 feet away too.

  • @taccun What? 9000, that cant be right!

  • Holm's feet get far higher off the ground than any dunker period. How many great dunkers have short arms or actually small hands? Its not a test of jumping ability. If youre willing to say that blacks are better at jumping then you also have to agree that they are weaker because they dont have as many weightlifting, WSM or wrestling champions. You should make neither assumption. treat athletes individually not in groups

  • Actualy I do say that white are better at power lifting. What the fuck do you mean I can't group athletes by race. I guess we all supposed to ignore that no white man has ever run a sub 10 100m and that the odds of the last 3 olympic finals (soon to be 4)being all black are .0000000001%. I can tell just by your comment your a politicaly correct person, just remember politicly correct doesn't mean correct as there is clearly a difference between races.

  • what im saying is that high jump is not dominated by blacks which is why the whole white man cant jump thing doesnt apply here. The amount of people with european heritage in the world is not that high either; most are indian or oriental.

High jump is basically a learned skill more than some other track events . Having a great vert or one running vertical not the only factor so not all great dunkers would be the best high jumpers. Most are too tall to be coordinated enough for high jump

  • First of all you have to consider that the vast majority of Chinese and Indian population don't even have acess to a track, many poor black countries in Africa specialize in running events because they don't even have high jump or pole vault eqiupment available. So while whites make up 19% of the population they probobaly make up a MUCH higher percent of high jumpers.

  • stefan holm- high jump legend!

  • so sick and slick nnnnnice jump

  • he jumps like 2 metres away from the bar!

he could jump higher and not that further

  • The rational for this is he isn't tall enough for him to get over the bar otherwise, due to his height.

  • their is a video where Hold does a scissors over 2.10m. It is said his inseam is about 32(estimate)=.81m

2.10-.81= 1.29m (50.8) running vertical off one foot. Elitetrack also says Holm has a runup speed of over 30km/h and combine that with outstanding tendon strength and you see why he co-holds the record for the greatest height cleared over one's head - 0.59m.

  • Wow great jump

  • man he had 250 in this jump

  • Fantastic

  • I believe he co-holds the WR for headheight clearance of 59cm. This height 2.40m and Stefan is 1.81m tall.

  • damn!!!!!

  • If he didn't knick it when he snapped, he would have had that by a few centimeters.

  • white boii can jump

  • @95bisons and who says white guys cant jump?

  • @95bisons hell yeah cuz hes swedish!

  • Such form...

  • he jumps so far from the bar, i think he could get higher if he jumped closer + up instead of how he goes out more than up

    dunno, i could be wrong

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure you are wrong

  • lol yup. The higher you jump the farther out you jump from.

  • You are wrong.. Trust me :)

  • the farther he is away from the bar, the more space there is for him to get higher. and he had more than enough speed to carry himself over the bar

  • When i did high jump i did it way closer to the bar, look how far away he is from it....thats amazing.

  • you have to jump far out to gain your max height. Otherwise you will hit the bar before you have your maximum height :D

  • holm holds tha world record for a 58inch vertical leap i think? i may b wrong

  • kadour ziani - 60 in. or 5 feet. he is 5'10 and the worlds best dunker...

  • Comment removed

  • yeah okay, he can jump 10'10

  • Holm's leap is actually only 59 cm.

its in one of those high jump documentary things - its on youtube somewhere (in german i think)

  • so you are saying that he jumped almost 2 meters less that what he is claiming to jump????

like are u watching the same video as the rest of the world?

  • when i say his leap, im talking about his vertical leap (jumping on the spot without a running start

  • That is head height clearance like samabercrombie said, not vertical leap. That is the distance from the bar to his head. In order to jump over the bar his head will go higher then the bar, how much higher I have no idea. I would love to know!

  • I was just referring to his standing vertical

  • It might be just a coincidence, but that is also the exact distance between his head and the bar, 240cm (bar height) - 181cm (Holm's height) = 59cm. 59cm = 23.2 inches. I know a few of my college female athletes have standing verticals that come within an inch or two of that height. I could be wrong, but I suspect his standing vertical is much higher. My personal standing vertical is 28 inches. Do you happen to know what his running one foot vertical is? That is what I would like to know.

  • i believe its about 1.40m= 54 inch

sounds crazy but come on.... he gets his whole body 0ver 2.40

  • wtf are you talking about..!!! he get his entire body over 2.40 and his vertical is over 50 inches!!

  • holy shit!! im not mentally challenged, i fucking see that he gets his entire body over 240. im talking about his standing vertical leap (commonly known as your "vertical" jump). Thats when someone jumps straight up without any run up, they just jump on the spot and try to reach as high as they can, and the distance between the bottom of your feet and the ground is your vertical (in your case, thats his standing vertical (cause you're too stupid to realize that))

  • lawl, in my perspection it don't seem appropriate that a guy that gets his entire body over 2.40 meter got a vertical leap of only 59 cm.. even i jump higher than that when i'm standing straight ( not running).

  • its at about 3:23

  • what? dick size?

  • what the fuck?

i posted a video that showed holm his vert and that was the time it showed it at

  • take it easy, i'm joking ^^

  • He is 5'11". That puts his hip height at about 33 inches, give or take. 2.40 meters is 94 inches, 94"-33" is 61", which is how high much higher in the air his hips are when he jumped that to when he was standing.

Ergo, if he had done this jump, and stayed standing straight up, the bottom of his foot would be 61 inches, or 5 feet 1 inch, above the ground.

  • @Icollishaw This is incorrect. The center of mass is not located at the hip, but below the bellbybutton. This gives a center of mass of about 37" for Holm, not 31"

Also, the fosbury flop technique allows the center of mass to remain about 7 inches below the bar during clearance. This means his center of mass only traveled to around 94" - 7" = 87"

The final calculation of his vertical yields 87" - 37" = 50" Therefore, his feet would only have been 4 feet 2 inches above the ground.

  • @cubesolver Erratum: I meant to say 33", not 31" my mistake.

  • @cubesolver Either way, that's really fuckin high in the air.

  • @Icollishaw Agreed

  • i've seen this guys jumps before they are all amazing but this jump was crazy b/c if anyone else noticed his arc was epic holy crap hent in half pretty much wow perfect technique

  • wow. hops

  • Wow.....

  • that is INSANE

  • i can bend like that :D... but hell, i cant even jump 2 meters yet xD LOL

    xD

  • YO!....He bends like crazy!!...thats rubber!....amazing!

  • look at how far he takes off from! thats fucking impressive!

  • his arch is way too good for him to be human.

  • I calculated it, and although its not exact, hes got over a 60+ inch vertical for sure.. off one leg thats amazing.

  • naw... he ran to jump tho..he had the momentum

  • My bad 60+ inch running** vertical, and no doubt a 50+ inch standing vert.

  • how do u have a 50 inch standing vertical? Michael Jordan only had a 48 inch vertical. You cant have 50 unless u are MJ.... or Jesus Christ

  • lol jordan had a 48 inch vertical bwahahahahha, that means he puts his chin on the rim and dunks, and i never said I PERSONALLY have a 50 inch vert

  • that is ridiculous! Look at how far way from the bar he is when he takes off

  • i was thinking the exact same thing lol too bad he retired

  • what??? he retired??????

  • after beijing

  • seriously?!?!?!?!?!

    omg, why?????????

  • that was soo perfectly done

  • He is only 181 cm and is one of the few guys that have jumped over 50 cm more than their own height. Huge elasticity!!!

  • didnt wanna see Holm retire..hopefully we see some big jumps from Andrey Silnov...kidz a beast.

  • I heard that he is only 5' 11'' holy shit!!!!!

  • i wanna see him dunk..

  • the crazy thing about this is this guy is only .05m from the world record that belongs to javier satoyomayor. He'll probably take the world record sometime soon.

  • hey bro hes retired my man

  • He is retired.. that's what i heard.

  • The indoor WR is 2.43 so he was only 3cm from the WR back then!

  • that man is cheating, he has wings or a jetpack lol

  • he flies. 0.o

  • my god...

  • my question is how the fuck do people even get up that high under their own power?

  • Is it real??

  • no lol

  • of course it is real

  • I know that hehe

  • Respective of athlete height and bar, that must be one of the greatest jumps ever seen. His ability to transfer speed to vertical lift is astounding.

  • Would it be safe to say that Stefan's vertical is at least 138cm (54") at the height of this jump? This is assuming his waistline height - measured from floor to waist - is 112cm (44"). Subtracting 112cm from the bar height of 240cm would = 138cm. If this makes sense, then how many more cm's need to be added to account for hangtime across the bar to reach the top of his vertical? I'm thinking it cud be nearly another 15cm's (6"). A straight up jump wud bring his head fully above a BB rim.

  • Comment removed

  • I was actually being serious. I guess I lost you in the math?? Try to imagine Stefan jumping straight up rather than diagonally on takeoff. I have to believe he could at the very least touch the top of his head on a 10' BB rim, which is impressive in itself. You can see in the video that before he even begins to arch his back, his waistline is above 7'. Add to 7' the measurement between his waistline and top of his head - 2' 3" - and he's within 7" of 10'. Utterly amazing.

  • 181cm tall and he jumped over 240cm! Sh*t, if he was 200cm too i bet he whould jump 260cm

  • omg, he has legs made of string

  • amazing jump.. i love holms technique

  • Sweden for the win!

  • Actually, in a sort of way he has the WR. In the longest differens between the bar and the jumper ;)

  • what is so special about those shoes?

    i must have missed something

  • It it shoes with spikes

  • man i gotta get a hold of those shoes

  • You cant get those shoes because they are specially made for holm.. Please dont reply to me with a comment like " how would you know?" because i do know since i have trained with him :)

  • dude ur that yannick kid right? fuck ur stuck up u brag on about shit in every highjump video

  • Let's take this discussion over a message instead of a comment on this video..

  • wow, you must be really proud.. you just had to include that in your comment, did you not?

  • Yes i am proud? Meeting stefan holm was great! And yes i had to since i dont want a comment like i posted that i didnt want in my last message. Wouldnt you be proud to have trained with stefan holm?

  • amen

  • aha thats crazy

if you move the bar up a 1 cm i bet he would have hit it aha

  • This is the high-jump conundrum (and pole vault as well). Your best jump is not necessarily your highest jump. Long Jump, Triple Jump, all the throwing events, you're rewarded for your best efforts. And while your fastest time may not ultimately win you the running event, you were still rewarded with your heat. This is the part for me which makes High Jump one of the most exciting track&field events. You have to put your best jump together at the peak of the event.

  • Great technique

  • Holy shit! This guy is a freak! Most of the guys jumping this high are way taller than this guy, so in my opinion he is the best.

  • I am truly jealous. I know it's not the WR but that is still damn high.

  • and hes really short too - almost 5'11

  • i would love to see him break the record..a short white guy aha

  • yea tht would be gd but how is 5'11 short?

Btw triple jump world record holder Jonathan Edwards is only 5.11 to and white :D

  • short for a high jumper, most high jumpers are giants

  • 6'2", hopin for 6'5" this year.

    I'm a pussy =/

  • im only 5'11" jump 6'4. but im a multi event guy so its whatever.

  • @Icollishaw haha same im 6'0 tryna get 6'6

  • im so tired of this white hope bull. How many black champions have there been in the olympic high jump, 5 out of 25 or so? Athletes of east African heritage have a monopoly on the sprints and long jump. A small bit of the east african plateau and morocco own the distance events. Categorizing athletes into white and nonwhite makes as much sense as categorizing calling all asians chinese.

  • Yeah but your ignoring the fact only 1 in 8 peeople in the world are black. We are a minority on the face on the Earth. All the poor black countries specialize in the sprints becuase they can't even afford long jump, high jump, or pole vault equipment. Despite this 3 of the top 9 are still black( which again exceeds our ratio ) including the world record holder. Not to mention all of the best long jumpers.

  • haha u are wrong!

only 19% of the worlds population are white

  • How am I wrong I never even brought up what percetage of the Earth is white you fucking idiot. You actualty proved my point because 1 in 5 people are white and 1 in 8 are black.

  • So while every black country gears blacks towards the sprints in America blacks are getting pulled away by the numerous other sports such as basketball which direct conflicts with track season. All you have to do is watch the slam dunk contest to see that there are several black athletes that could have exceled in high jump with proper training. Jordan was 6'6" with a 48 inch vert off one foot and it's said that he

  • @xSportsKingx 48 inches is wrong..

  • OMFG ofc its 2.40

  • Amaizing what an inspiration to all the high jumpers out there. He just clears it like its nothing.

  • So true rendlaW soto jumped both on speed and power just take a look at some of his videos.. But i would still say that holm is better, he's such a cool guy!

  • nice hops it looks like he might have cleared a little taller hight

  • He should play basketball.

  • as a short white guy, i find great inspiration from stefan

    <
