My favourite song when I was younger I didn't understand what Iit meant at the time but it was such a great song it still has that effect on me now its rare for a song to do that now
Bardo Thodol-- Expanding into a larger sense of spaciousness, nothing to hold onto -- beyond the mind and beyond the body-- floating free in space. totally safe, any distractions dissolving back into the heart.
Caught him live doing this. What struck me was how he could sing while moving around in that thing, and how he almost would roll off the stage, but somehow managed to stay in control.
Playing keys in front of so many people- at first your hands shake a bit- but after you start playing- it gets better- then your heart finds the beat- and off we go- Though when they leave it's just replaying the last 16 bars of what they just finished playing- then everyone walks away- "Signal to Noise' which is the real masterpiece- took me a week to learn all the orchestral inflections
Who has keyboard duties?I wonder what it must be like to play in front of thousands of people every night? Not to offend, but I still like the Paula Cole days. This video is a pretty cool referant to "The Orbs". I work hospice and these little things always show up.Something is in them, but it cannot be made out what,They show up on photographs and look like floating bubbles.Like the good witch in the Wizard of Oz was tooling about in,only tiny.True.
@drummyonekenobi Yeah i just learned that...lol i thought he just hadn't been going to the beach or some shit lmao, but he still an amazing drummer xD
one day back in 2003 my buddy phoned me up and said "hey man, i got some free tix to peter gabriel tonight, wanna come help me sell them outside the stadium?"
i said, "sure why not"
any how, we got down there, and said to each other "hey, we are both musicians, lets just go check this show out"
and it was by far the best show i have ever seen. not necissarily the musical performance (though of course levins was epic), but visually and just the whole experience.
Probably the best visual since the Division Bell tour by Pink Floyd. Great interaction, the round stage is perfect. Only wish I could have seen it in the flesh!
We can only hope to catch the 7 who need a can of whoppass for disliking this.
Probably the best visual since the Division Bell tour by Pink Floyd. Great interaction, the round stage is perfect. Only wish I could have seen it in the flesh!
you can not beat this . i saw this in manchester and was amased it sent a shiver down my back i can tell you . iv still got the t shirt i got of a lad out side [ it was only a fiver ] one of my best gigs . ha ha why wouldnt americans appreciate peter thats just daft.
FYI about 60% of this tour took place in US cities. Any A-hole who thinks Americans are not interested in this man's music is an idiot. He sells more records here than anywhere else.
Only the italians are modern enough, and open minded enough to truly appreciate this kind of artistry!
There's no way Gabriel could bring a great show of that kind to the U.S.! The vast majority of Americans would look at it with a deer in the headlights facial expression! Many of them would say "Mama, I aint never seen dat on FOXnews!"
@vampiroangelico dude you aint modern enuff, my cousin from Rome is blown away by this stuff. Ive been in a Gabriel band, can you sing? prolly not ta, Im from chicago and seen the greatness Gabriel can do and disagree with you, my section of where I grew up is Lil Italy, youd be in a body bag my friend....cosa nostra style..
@RequiemX66 "dude you aint modern enuff"?? How the hell would YOU know?
Can I sing? I've been a musician all my life, I play guitar, I sing, I play keyboards, bass, I play drums and I do drum programming as well.
What the heck is "prolly not ta"? Can you even type or speak?
Apparently you live in the section of town ruled by southern italians, and I'm a northern Italian, which is a completely different culture. I do not relate to "cosa nostra".
@vampiroangelico lol that's quite selfish what you say, but I guess Italians have a way of seeing things like this. Anyway, you might be right, prog-rock band Porcupine Tree also gave one of their best concerts in Rome (and it has been released as live album, very good stuff).
I didn't mean to come off as "selfish" and I apologize if I did; it wasn't my intention, and it is completely inaccurate to claim "Italians have a way of seeing things like this". The reason why I made that comment, was mostly to point out the fact that Italy has ALWAYS been hugely into prog rock, and factually, bands like Genesis, Yes, Marillion, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater had great success in Italy.
No matter how often is see this video, when he starts jumping inside that ball, it always puts a smile on my face. Great song!! Great show! Wish i was there!
Gabriel... a legend... have my tickets for the london O2 in March. I cant wait. the next chapter & I bet an amazing experience... orchestra only I believe. Last seen him on the Growing up Again tour.
That is far and away THE best stage production I have ever seen! So, PG was not only singing, but directing, rolling a huge orb around the stage without special effects, wires, smoke or mirrors. This man has been more than brilliant since I first saw him in 1974 touring "Lamb Lies Down", playing "in the round.) His voice is indefinable, his use of innovative instruments and timing make him a master composer, in my eyes. Trust me, this man's best work is yet to come, Y'all.
@OUTSIDETHEBOCKS Couldn't agree more ! I I too think there is still more to come from the maestro -expect the unexpected. The voice has matured and deepened but still incomparable. So near in the unknown I hope. :)
