Giuliani: We Need Energy Independence and Nuclear Power

I still want to see Rudy G as president. I think people made a terrible mistake last time around in choosing McCain and Obama. It should've been a Giuliani-Clinton race. That way, no matter the outcome, America would've been much better off than it is now. Obama ran on marketing ("Change!") alone, and has turned out to be perhaps the most inept POTUS ever. Say what you will about Bush...warmonger, etc...Obama clearly has him beat in the "Lame Duck" category. Well, better luck next time...right?

Those images are horrific. Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani is far more well spoken than Obama. RG brings up the real concerns. Obama just looks the other way.

all the tragedy aside... I'm amazed on all the Japan's newer nuclear plants that WITHSTOOD a 9.0 earthquake. If anything, gather as much information about those and why they DIDN'T fail.

@2bRealist Simple answer: No tsunami. They earthquake-proofed the reactors, but neglected to consider the damage that could be caused by a tsunami. Long story short, the saltwater flooded and shorted out the generators that keep the cooling systems going. Total tunnel vision fail.

So it doesnt have to do with the fact this plant is one of the oldest in Japan, with a design that is not used in any of the newer (still working just fine) plants that DID WITHSTOOD A 9.0 earthquake AND tsunami???

@2bRealist Not much, because it was strongly reinforced against earthquakes. The old design is only causing problems when it comes to what to do next. Long story short: If the generator rooms had simply been water proofed or more elevated, this would not be happening now.
